Sandra Cisneros is a Chicana writer that had wrote many stories that are about and how her American identity and the American culture had influenced most of it. And the way she has grown. Cisneros wrote this story, “Mericans,” which main theme focuses on American identity and how is been influenced by its other side which is the Mexican identity. It uses a lot of details so as readers we could visualize the cultural environment that is presented throughout the story. Sandra Cisneros is trying to influence us and make us see the sense of the traditional culture in Mexico instead of drawing assumptions based on physical characters presented in the story. That could confused our idea of what exactly the story is about and how is been affected by this outsiders who are bringing liberalism ideas that confront its traditional culture in this small town in Mexico.

The story have a lot of details to keep us as readers questioning and wondering why the grandmother does not like America and how this make her not like her grandchildren as much. Because as the group discussed the kids are away from her and the only reason that is presenting is because they do not like to pray as she does and do not value church as she does. But the story show us how the struggle between the girl and grandmother and their two cultural worlds keeps facing and how they are trying to keep their cultural beliefs and still hold to each other cultural heritage. And not forgotten where they come from and still cherish their own
