Methods of Mutation After reading the given scenario, its safe to say that everyone’s reaction towards certain situations will be different. The scenario states, that when I arrive home late at night, I walk up to the front door, unlock it, and reach in to turn on the light switch located inside by the front door. The light strangely does not turn on, now what? Its clear that there must be some explanation as is to why the light did not turn on, my first reaction would be to try one more time to see if “it really was the light” and not human error. Using the scientific method, I came up with two different reasons/scenarios as to how and why the light did not turn on in hopes that one will solve the current situation.
Trial #1: * Observe: I have observed that the light does not work, since I tried flicking the switch a couple of times. * Hypothesis: Since the light is not working my first thought would be that the light bulb has burnt out. * Experiment: Since the house is dark, I take out my phone in hopes it will shine a path to the next light switch, which is a couple feet away. I switch on that light and observe if it or isn’t working. * Data: Once I have figured out if the other lights are working or not I can come up with my conclusion and collect my data. My data would conclude if the lights in the other part of the house were working or not. * Communicate/Conclusion: Once I observed my option of turning on another light I can see if my hypothesis was correct. If the light in another room worked I could conclude that the light walking in the front door has burnt out and I need to replace the light bulb. If the lights in the other room do not turn on I need to regroup and come up with a different hypothesis.
Trial #2: * Observe: I have observed that the light does not work, since I tried flicking the switch a couple of times. * Hypothesis: I conclude that the light(s) are not turning on so I initially think that the breaker has tripped and that is why the light will not turn on. * Experiment: I find my way through the house and find another light switch and find myself in the same situation, the lights did not turn on. * Data: Once I figured out that none of the lights are working in the house I find my way to the breaker box. * Communicate/Conclusion: Once I reach the breaker box I notice that some of the switch are on the wrong side and move the back over to where they need to be. Once that is finished I go back and try the light again. LIGHTS ON!

Science is part of life, though we might not notice where science plays its role we can be sure that some science is involved in some way shape or form. As I look at my life I can see that science has played a role in my everyday activities. When I wake up I feed my newborn a bottle of milk. The formula that my newborn uses has science “built” into it. The nutrients that are involved in making the formula are based from science, scientist created the formula to closely match the nutrition required for babies. The reason that so much science has been put into the formula is because they want to closely relate it to the mothers’ breast milk. After feeding my newborn his bottle, which is done every 3-4 hours, I make breakfast for the rest of my family. Again anything with food, some type of science has gone into it, certain vitamins, nutrients are processed in food in-order to make them healthy for people to eat. Arun K the author of Science in Daily Life claims, “science has brought about far-reaching changes in every sphere of our daily life, goods made cheap and readily available has been created by science” (K.A, “Science in Daily Life). I then drive myself to work, which consists of 8-9 hours a day. Initially my work environment has a lot of science around it, electricity plays a huge role. “A big contribution of science is electricity, without electricity there would be complete darkness after evening hours and no industry could function without the power of energy” (K.A, “Science in Daily Life). After my day at work, I drive myself home in my vehicle, which is also guided by science, since fuel (gases) is studies by scientist to transport vehicles. Right now science is trying to come up with ways to eliminate hazardous gases and utilize more electricity when it comes to transportation. I than eat dinner with my family. Lastly, I enjoy the company of my two kids and fiancé by watching a little TV and just relaxing. Yet again, science playing a big part in my relaxation since electricity is required to keep the TV playing and the lights shinning. I believe throughout life science has impacted many just like myself, we may not all be scientist but one can assume that in some way shape or form science is involved in our every day activities. “Science has invented ways to peep inside the human body to tackle diseases of human beings through X-ray machines. Diseases can easily be detected and various tests conducted within a matter of few seconds. Complicated operations are possible and are successful with the help of equipment and machines invented with the help of Science. Human life would get transformed into new horizons and heights of prosperity when atomic energy is fully utilized for peaceful purposes” (K.A, “Science in Daily Life). I think we are all fortunate enough to have science involved in our lives, I think science has had a lot of impact and we as humans give little or no credit towards its new discoveries. Even having class online would not be possible without science, “computers and internet system help mankind in information technology to a great extent. Today life without science is unthinkable” (Agarwal, J, 2008). People have their own perception about how science has evolved and how it affects our every day lives. I truly believe that science has had no negative impact on my life today, I think we are all blessed to have science in our lives. I say this because when you look at “medical science” and all of its accomplishments I cannot say that science has no place on this earth. I think we have all benefited from science in some way. I believe the only drawback about science is that scientists have lost their lives “in the process.” Unfairly, some scientists have lost their lives while performing certain tests, for instance the case of Marie Curie. Curie a scientist who lost her life due to radiation has opened a new door for other scientist. In fact, Curie’s death has raised the bar and has educated many scientists to test different hazardous energies that can be fatal to the human race. Without the practice of science a lot of would be lost and ways of preserving the world would no longer exist. I believe that we all have grown with “science” and it would be difficult to live without it. “We have developed instruments to help us in agriculture, irrigation, generating electricity, building dams, curing many fatal diseases. Man’s life span has been increased with the advancement of the medical science” (Agarwal, J, 2008). I believe a long time ago I would say science is not really a necessity, but since I’ve grown up with the belief of science its hard to image my life without it. I believe this course has really opened my eyes, I think it has taught me to think outside the box and out of my comfort zone. I think I’ve come to realization that everything that we do on our lives has a specific purpose. I believe a lot of us don’t recognize how fortunate we are to be living in this wonderful world. We should understand that not everyone gets to see, hear, or smell what we do. Every place is different and I think everyone should be proud to be part of it. I also enjoyed getting to see different sides of people, through the discussion board I could understand other peoples opinions about certain situations/topics. I believe we all have something great to offer this life and we can some how and in some way shape what is around us. If we are willing to learn from our mistakes and choose the right path that lies ahead of us we can all do great things in our lives.
