There is a lot to be said for valuing a company, it is no easy task. If you have yet to discover this moneymaker, the satisfaction one gets from tearing apart a company’s financial statements and analyzing it on a whole different level is great – especially if you make or save yourself money for your efforts. In this project, you will analyze the fundamental financial ratios. The ratios should be presented in a simplified manner to make them easier to understand. Sure some of the ratios have different varieties, but by the end you will understand the basic premise and reasons for fundamental analysis.
You will work in groups of three or four people for this project. You will be analyzing two public traded companies within the same industry; as well, you will also evaluate these companies against their industry standards for performance. To find the data for your ratio analysis, you will need each company’s latest financial figures. Finding these financial reports can done by searching the internet through some of these sources, but not limited to:
• Company Websites – Almost every public company has a website or investor relations department. For the most current quarterly or annual report you might want to check in these places first. Walt Disney is an excellent example of a company that

uses the web to get information out to shareholders and prospective investors. It takes no time at all to find their investor relations section.

• Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) – The information posted in the electronic gathering, analysis and retrieval (EDGAR) database includes the annual report (known as the 10–K), quarterly report

Use the normal approximation to compute probabilities for a binomial variable. 6–2 Applications of the Normal Distribution 6–3 The Central Limit Theorem 6–4 The Normal Approximation to the Binomial Distribution Summary 6–1 300 Chapter 6 The Normal Distribution Statistics Today What Is Normal? Medical researchers have determined so-called normal intervals for a person’s blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and the like. For example, the normal range of systolic blood pressure is 110 to 140. The normal interval for a person’s triglycerides is from 30 to 200 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl). By measuring these variables, a physician can determine if a patient’s vital statistics are within the normal interval or if some type of treatment is needed to correct a condition and avoid future illnesses. The question then is, How does one determine the so-called normal intervals? See Statistics Today—Revisited at the end of the chapter. In this chapter, you will learn how researchers determine normal intervals for specific medical tests by using a normal distribution. You will see how the same methods are used to determine the lifetimes of batteries, the strength of ropes, and many other traits. Introduction Random...

...Ahmed, R.A. Valmonte-Santos, C. Luna, L. Lachica-Aliño, P. Munro, V. Christensen and D. Pauly (eds.) Assessment, Management and Future Directions for Coastal Fisheries in Asian Countries. WorldFish Center Conference Proceeding 67, 1 120 p. Abstract This paper reviews the coastal fishery resources of Bangladesh emphasizing the coastal environment, capture fisheries and management issues relative to the sector. Bangladesh’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) covers an area of about 166 000 km2. This area has abundant natural resources such as fish, shrimps, crabs and other marine products. Shrimp and fish trawling is the most important economic activity in this area. The fishery sector makes a significant contribution to the national economy in terms of foreign exchange, income generation and employment. It is very important in nutrition, especially in providing animal protein. In 1997 - 99, the marine fisheries sector contributed 22% of the total fishery production of 1 373 000 t. However, the resources are being destroyed in many ways. The fisheries resources have declined and fishers are getting poorer. The decline is partly due to estuarine set bag net, push net, and beach seine fishing, which result in recruitment over-fishing. A multiplicity of factors adversely affect the coastal fishery resources of Bangladesh. Various laws, ordinances and acts have been formulated to manage the fisheries resources and to protect the coastal zone environment. Most of the laws have been amended...
