Ethical Issues in Management Introduction
Ethics and ethical values are developed over long period of time and is an on-going process. One may be facing certain risks when making an ethical decision so he/she must be ready to face that issue. Our parents teach us some values and they become an integral part in our personality. Whenever we join an organization, we apply these values there as well. This is the very reason managers should be able to make clear-cut and neutral decisions based on organizational ethical policy. In a nutshell, we should respect each other’s values and one should not be treated differently because of his/her values.
Moral and Ethical Issues Favoritism is one of the highly prevalent unethical practices. For the first time in my life, I came face to face with this dilemma when I joined the army. My commanding officer always showed favoritism to his favorite people.

...Ethical Simulation After taking part in the ethics game, a couple of issues were presented which needed to be addressed in me taking part as a Quality Control Manager in the G-Bio Sport Company. Decision making steps were used differently for each issue to have the ability to address the issue in the correct fashion. I used two different ethical perspectives, and two different ethical lenses to make my decisions in this simulation. Even using these perspectives, and lenses my management decisions were not affected or influenced throughout the simulation. This simulation does bring up valid insights in how issues come up in my business. The first of the ethical issues presented in the simulation was a product shipped out to the consumer market by G-Bio Sport was tainted with an elevated amount of GBS-Fibranafren. During the most recent QA testing 100% of the products shipped to consumer markets contains an elevated amount of GBS-Fibranafren. The amounts are far beneath the FDA regulations, but exceed the levels we have permitted internally. The risks to consumers being affected by the product are low, but consumers with compromised immune systems could have a slightly higher risk of reactions with continued use of the product. I know based off of the lab results that 100% of the batch shipped to the consumer market is tainted with GBS-Fibranafren. In the second scenario the issue was to decide whether to sell a product that does not meet U.S. safety requirements in a......

Ethical Issues in Management

...Ethical Issues in Management Natalie Weaver MGT/216 March 15, 2010 Richard Smith Introduction In management there are always different ethical situations involved. Today one of those major problems in management has been diversity. Diversity in the workplace refers to the amount that cultural diversity is inside a company. “Diversity is generally defined as acknowledging, understanding, accepting, valuing, and celebrating differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, spiritual practice, and public assistance status (K.A. Green, M. López, A. Wysocki, & K. Kepner, 2008).” Moral and Ethical Issues Acquiring diversity in the business opens them to grasp the realization of the demographics of its marketplace, just as long as the company uses the opportunity that they receive from the knowledge of a diverse working environment. Businesses toady like to display their “Equal Opportunity Employer” status. What this status says is they like having a diverse work setting with no discrimination. Diversity is not going through that well mainly because of discrimination. “Discrimination occurs whenever something other than qualifications affects how an employee will be treated (L. Trevino & K. Nelson, K., 2007, p. 69).” Discrimination can affect race, age, religious beliefs, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference and any type of quality that does not fit with the society accepted normal. ...Issues in Management Ethical and Legal Issues in Management MGT/216 May 10, 2010 Brent Boardman As a manager there are many ethical and legal issues that a person may have to deal with. One of the biggest is termination. If not done properly, this can cause law suits for wrongful termination, regardless of the reasons behind it. When working in a position of management it is very important to understand what an employee can be terminated for. It is against the law to terminate an employee for such things as discrimination of race, sex, age, orientation, or whistle blowing. For an employee with disciplinary problems, the manager will want to document every issue that they may have with an employee, although according to Barry Gross from All business (2010), documentation is not a requirement for termination, it is suggested that this be done so that if it ever comes down to having to terminate that employee, there would be documentation stating that the particular employee has had prior discipline problems. Also, when terminating an employee, it should be done in private, and respectfully, though the manager may want to have a second manager in the room for their own protection, so that it cannot be said that the employee was disrespected in front of their peers. If there is no documentation to prove that the employee has had disciplinary problems before, the employee may be able to sue the company for wrongful termination, and win. Another legal issue would be......

A. Green, M. Lopez, Wysocki & K. Kepner, 2008).” The demographics of a business market place allow the business to better understand its diversity. A company knows the breadth of knowledge that a diverse workplace, and states that they’re “Equal Opportunity Employer” who do not discriminate. By having diversity in the workplace, it helps maintain and stops discrimination. “Discrimination occurs whenever something other than qualification affects how an employee is treated (L. ...Ethical Issues in Management This paper analyzes the ethical and legal issues encountered by management in organizations daily. The relationship between social issues and the ethical requirements of management as it relates to family and personal issues is also discussed. Family and personal issues affect lives of working adults each day. Ethical dilemmas occur in the workplace when dealing with family and personal issues. One of these examples is discussed during the progression of this paper. Management faces legal aspects during the decision-making process of these dilemmas as to how they should be governed. Personal issues include personal time off work, employee illness, family illness, unexpected events, and childcare, just to name a few. A legal, fair, and ethical approach to these matters is how these issues are handled. If these matters are not handled with caution and within the legal limitations, law suits are filed and companies face serious legal challenges. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the legal voice for those individuals whom believe they have been discriminated. Laws were designed to protect employees from discrimination and to protect the jobs of employees who need to take time off work to take care of ill family members. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is designed to grant eligible employees up to 12 weeks of time off work during any 12-month period. As with anything, there are individuals who try to take......

Mgt 216 Ethical and Moral Issues in Business

...Ethical and Moral Issues in Business Carlos I. Maldonado MGT 216 Organization Ethics and Social Responsibility February 3, 2011 University of Phoenix Ethical and Moral Issues in Business Moral and ethical issues are always present on each morning newspaper, the daily news, and on our surroundings. They confront us in the fundamentals of our daily jobs and encounter us from our children's daily school activities. We are daily bombarded with discussions of drug abuse, the morality of medical technologies that can prolong our lives, the rights of the homeless and abortion, the fairness of our children's teachers to the diverse students in their classrooms, and sexual morality. Dealing with these moral and ethical issues is often perplexing especially when individuals are trying to think through an ethical issue and determine what questions to ask and what factors should be considered. Morality is a term used to cover those practices and activities that are considered importantly right and wrong; the rules that govern those activities; and the values that are embedded, fostered, or pursued by those activities and practices (Richard T. De George, 2010). Ethical or moral norms apply in business, just as they do in all other areas of human life. There is not separate or esoteric set of norms that apply to business and do not apply elsewhere. People in business are no more allowed to cheat, steal, lie, harm others, violate their rights, and so on, than anyone else.......

Ethical Issues in Management

...Ethical Issues in Management Jerome Brown University of Phoenix Business Ethics and Social Responsibility MGT/216 Robert Gabriel July 06, 2010 Ethical Issues in Management Performance evaluations are a very important part of a manager’s functions, which measures an employee’s results to determine if they are in line with group, department, and organizational goals. However like most managements functions hiring, firing etc. ethics can play a role in the decision making process though sometimes harder to recognize. The moral and social issues can affect a manager’s ability to make sound decisions whether arrived at through corporate policies or personal choice. The first type could rely mostly on the duty-based theory of ethics and the latter possibly on virtue based theory or any combination ethical theories. The goals of all ethic theories are do the right thing for people, and in the given situation what is best for all concerned. The ethical and morals issues that manager’s face most often involve dealing with people including themselves. It can be a conflict of interest, such as, a personal sense of ethics is contrary to achieving a company goal, or reacting unethically (usually due to stress) to achieve a company goal. As to performance evaluations, holding themselves to remaining fair and unbiased is probably the most difficult part of being a manager. Although there are generally rules, policies and guidelines as to perform this task, often personalities......

We will see how it deals with people from different backgrounds. It may include customers, employees and shareholders as well. Ineffectively dealing with customers or managing a team of individuals with different personalities and working styles can result in unnecessary challenges and lead to a company’s failure (Warner, 2007). It seems that donut express is a successful company and money is pouring in thus making profits for all the stakeholders. Regardless of that, the big question is about the quality and efficiency of their ethical standards and how they enforce it. Are their training programs and monitoring options enough to keep them away from any legal actions? The quality of training and the enforcement of standards are major factors in determining long-term profitability of a small business. Social workers can be affected to sensitive in cultural and ethnic diversity. Given the economy of this country the climate and number of Jobs people loses in a daily basis, most citizens are feeling the pressure to work harder. However, in spite of the increasing intensity of the economy crisis, it is not unfortunate to give up in to such pressure, the ethical dilemma of working Americans. The most valuable commodity people have is time and professionalism in their personal life. To employees in general it is known to be wrong spending too much time working in one project with the expense of other equally and critical tasks. The same is for managers taking too long managing one employee and unable to manage others. The most important thing to know is that ethics is not just to know how managers treat others but to learn management in their own selves; it isn’t fair to anyone else or yourself if you have not taking time off from work.
