...Evaluating Performance through Motivation and Conflict Management Robert Cummings, Katie Delong, Kara Gonzalez, Stephanie Hernandez, Rachel LaFontain MGT 307 April 25, 2011 David Parsons Evaluating Performance through Motivation and Conflict Management Organizations apply motivational and conflict management theories to keep employees aligned with the organization’s goals and to remain competitive in their market. Organizations employ individuals with different backgrounds and a management objective is to capture each difference and move forward with a common goal. Management is responsible for motivating employees and keeping them aligned with the organization’s goals. This paper will encompass organizational plans detailing motivational theories and conflict management plans as they relay to the differences in employee learning styles. Motivation Theories and Organizational Behavior Motivation states the “forces within an individual that account for the level, direction, and persistence of effort expended at work” (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2008). Level is the effort that the individual gives, direction is the individual’s personal choice when making decisions, and persistence is how...

Mgt 311 Week 5 Reflection

...Reflection Week 5 MGT/311 May 31, 2012 Andreya Broadway, Cyndee Aguirre, Jason Rhodes This week we learned about diversity in the workplace. Kind of a touchy subject to many, but for team A it was a subject that hit close to home since all three of us have a very large diverse group in our respective workplaces. It is a manager’s job to make sure that groups are diverse in the company. Whether it is age, race, religion, tenure, or ability all of these qualities make up for a powerful combination for success if the manager takes the correct steps. A manager must understand first off what diverse associates he or she has in their environment. Once the manager has completed that step it is on to find out which assets will work best in a group. As described in class during the chapter 2 slides and discussion, every asset of diversity is much needed when assembling a team or group at work. Managing diversity is quite simple if a manager stays on top of it on a regular basis. The three levels of diversity are surface level, deep level, and management level, and all three of these levels are important when a managing diversity groups. It is a commitment that must be closely watched when trying to make sure those diversity trainings are being scheduled, and that steps are being taken to keep diversity in a positive way. Team A discussed that having weekly or monthly trainings and meetings are needed to ensure that the communication channel is used at all times to...

Mgt/311 Week 4 Team Reflection

... performance evaluation and reward system. Team composition is extremely important. The individual abilities of each team member must complement each other in order to achieve maximum team effectiveness. Team members’ personalities are equally as important. The dimensions identified in the Big Five personality test are relevant to team success. When allocating roles in a team, team members should be given roles that play into their strengths and personalities. Team diversity can be a help or a hindrance. Organizational demography is the degree to which team members share common demographic attributes. The size of the team deserves careful consideration. Most effective teams have between five and nine members. A manager should take member preferences into consideration when selecting a team. Members that prefer to work alone will become a hindrance if forced to work in a team environment. Team processes are the last factor related to team effectiveness. Variables such as member commitment to a common purpose, establishment of specific team goals, team efficacy, a managed level of conflict, and minimized social loafing. This is even more important in bigger teams. We discussed the meaning of conflict in regards to the business world. Conflict is a process that begins when one party perceives another party has or is about to negatively affect something the first party cares about. We discussed the five stages of conflict which are potential opposition or......

Mgt 311 Week 5 Change Management Plan

...Change Management and Communication Plan July 29, 2013 MGT/311 Change Management and Communication Plan Riordan Manufacturing has recently decided to make a big change to their organization’s customer management plan. This change and this new system will require all employees to use one customer management system, and will take a great deal of planning to implement these changes. In order to ensure this process goes as smoothly as possible it is important to start with a change management plan. Within the change management plan many different vital topics will be discussed. Such as the different power structures inside the organization, the different company characteristics, and the strategy to implement the changes that will be taking place. The next step is to discuss the communication plan for the proposed change management plan. Last, it would be valuable to develop the message based off of everything that has been discussed. The current formal power structure in Riordan Manufacturing is a chain of command. The chain of command power structure has a line of authority that stretches from the highest-ranking leader in the company all the way down to the lowest, defining who answers to whom, and who has final say in a situation. This will result in a very structured work environment in which each employee understands who they have authority over and who has authority over them. The informal power structure is a team-oriented working environment. This results in close...

The location of these teams is in Pontiac, Michigan, which produces plastic parts for the organization. Team A will develop a Team Strategy Plan of which we will identify several strategies in building viable teams, identify challenges or barriers that may occur, determine the best approach, and measure the teams efficiency. While developing these teams, Team A will create a Conflict Management Plan of which we will analyze the teams strengths and weaknesses, implementation of different conflict management strategies, select the best approach, identify potential challenges, and consider alternate strategies that will foster an efficient team. The Various Strategies Available to Build Teams Riordan Manufacturing is striving to create the perfect teams of employees to generate the best possible production of the newly designed CardiCare Valve heart valves. Creating those perfect teams requires much planning and organization. An important thing that Riordan needs to think about when trying to construct their teams is the number of members of each of the team. Generally speaking, the most effective teams have five to nine members (Robbins & Judge, 2011). When teams are larger, coordination and communication amongst its members may be an issue making it harder to get work done. Another thing for Riordan to consider when...

Employee Portfolio Management Plan Mgt 311

...Employee Portfolio Management Plan MGT/311 June 02, 2014 Kathy Maas Employee Portfolio Management Plan Job satisfaction is important in any work environment because the more satisfied that the employees are, the more likely that they will stay with the job and provide high quality work. Self-assessments on employees help to find out what characteristics, or traits each one possesses. It is important to know the personality of the employees hired in order to figure out what may motivate them. Three employees were given each a set of self-assessment to take in order for myself to better evaluate the individuals and see how they help our organization with their traits. With the self-assessment given on job satisfaction, all three of the employees were satisfied with their job, two being highly satisfied and one being somewhat satisfied. The individual who was only somewhat satisfied was unhappy in areas of management, freedom to make decisions, and being able to use his skills. This could affect the work performance because of the dissatisfaction. It would be important to sit this individual down and find out what he feels the job is lacking and get his input on how he would like to see improvements. When looking at the emotional intelligence scores of the employees, it was obvious that they each possessed a high level of individual intelligence. This lets me know as the manager that my employees are able to work through stressful situations and also are able to...

...Employee Portfolio-Management Plan Sammie Jay MGT/311 8/25/2014 N.N. Employee Portfolio-Management Plan Characteristics play an important role in finding the right person to fill a position in an organization. The management team not only has to find someone who can perform the requirements of the position successfully, but they must also choose someone who will be a team player, get along well with the other team members, work hard and diligently to complete their assignments and be open minded to new ideas and people. If the position is a management position those involved in the hiring process must be sure the person they hire is able to motivate and inspire others. How Employee Characteristics Affect the Performance of the Organization Employee characteristics play a large role in the performance of an organization. The three employees that completed the assessments all show strengths in being mostly in touch with their emotions, are happy and are able to focus on their work. They each have strengths in making good judgments and being empathetic towards others. These characteristics could come in very handy for an organization. Emotions are contagious. If one employee is happy and energetic it can inspire other workers to change their poor attitudes into good attitudes. The more good vibes that are given by employees the more they spread. Good attitudes help increase customer service and inspire new ideas and motivation. If a manager...
