Kava is an island in the South Pacific. Even though the island is barraged by obstacles and harsh conditions, the community remains resilient. Sikorsky Aircraft wants to build a production facility on Kava with the goal of not only helping stakeholders and the organization, but also to provide aid to the suffering community. Placing a new facility for production in Kava gives the company the opportunity to reduce production costs and to improve the quality of life of the local residents, which will be done through profit allocation. To promote new businesses in the economy, the government of Kava puts forth incentives like tax breaks and licensing at low costs. Thus, now is the perfect time to bring this plan to fruition. Sikorsky Aircraft already is a player in the global market, and I assert that a Kav’ian subsidiary would be a smart investment. In recent years, Kava has experienced multiple natural disasters. As a result, the community has been ravaged and many families are now experiencing poverty. Sikorsky’s production facility there would give job opportunities to the local people: they could work in the low-level line production jobs that would help the production of the standard H-60 Black Hawk airframe. Part of the profits that would be earned thanks to the cut in labor costs would be dedicated to a revival for the local community. Sikorsky plans to make contributions to community centers, improved housing, disaster relief, activities, and the educational system. Of course, some organizational obstacles block the path of a successful establishment of a Sikorsky Aircraft facility on Kava. The most noteworthy obstacle is the gap in education between the residents’ knowledge of the construction of helicopter frames, and what would be necessary for them to know so that their finished product would be a quality one. It is fortuitous that the residents of…...

...Decisions in Paradise Part 1 Annsley Farabee MGT 350 Warren Eck July 1, 2013 Pier One Imports in Kava The South Pacific island of Kava in its current state is a disaster stricken area. Most recently Kava has been ambushed by disasters of all kinds, coming from all directions. If the diseases, filth, poverty, young population can be looked past, Kava has the potential to be a thriving, beautiful paradise island. Kava needs a great deal of help in order to achieve the title of “paradise”. Pier One Imports is a company that could significantly help this island. This is a unique project that will take a lot of time and critical thinking, as there are many obstacles that stand in the way. Not only is it our goal to better the island, it is also our goal for this project to better our company as well. The island of Kava has many natural resources that could help the island thrive; however there are also many things that could present a problem to the success of Kava. Problem Formulation There are a series of physical and social problems that need to be addressed in Kava. The first and most significant problem is the physical messes that the disasters have left behind. The messes must be cleaned up in order for new structures, safer, sturdier structures to be built. This will take a lot of time and a lot of money. A second problem that presents itself is that of health. The overall health of individuals is very important in order to have the most productive citizens.......

...Decisions in Paradise Part One Sheri Johnson MGT/350 December 09, 2013 Kimberly Ramsawak Decisions in Paradise Part One As a new employee of Frontier Communications, I will be guided through this journey by Chris and Alex. As with many things in my life, things are not always what you imagine them to be. My perception of what Kava was going to be like was nothing like the reality of Kava, as with my co-worker Alex. The issues that face us in this journey is getting Kava the communication services it needs to be a productive island, which would conceivably bring in more tourism and secure Kava’s future. The issues that Alex and I are faced with are many. To start out with, the disaster threats alone are enough to make you reconsider any business at this location. These disasters range from tsunami’s, tornadoes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. Manmade threats such as HIV/AIDs, avian flu, and petroleum spills are also issues we will have to deal with. However, my company is dedicated to helping communities and providing them with quality telephone and internet service, no matter how rural the area is. One obstacle that we will face while building a new infrastructure in Kava is finding ways to have our technology installed and resistant to or as resistant as possible to the threats that face Kava. We have to use the most innovative technology in order to keep and sustain our presence in Kava. One of the first options that we would have to look......

...Decisions In Paradise: Part 1 Susana Hicks Management/350 April 20, 2011 Yvonne Richardson Tormenting natural disasters are devastating the entire world like atomic bombs. The Island of Kava, Japan, Chile, and Haiti have been epicenters for these unpredictable catastrophes and aftermaths. Many companies have had inferior infrastructures that have collapsed like the Aztec Kingdoms because of the unfortunate events. Starbucks will be the knight in shining armor more than it already is to the island of Kava. With already a powerful presence our mission is to supersede the current reputation and dominate the industry locally, regionally, and globally. This organizational is proven to with stand many problematic issues , and at the present time needs to concentrate on main problems leading to objectives that are more precise and goals to ensure success. The island of Kava faces a few hardships to overcome for success in our coffee company. The hardships that we must face are the lopsided age of the population with 50% under 15, the absence of a common language because of so many various cultures residing on the island, third in this country is the plethora of natural disasters: tidal waves, tsunami, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions,......

...Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Chelsea Robinson MGT 350 - Critical Thinking June 20, 2011 Bruce Betts Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Kava, a small island country in the South Pacific¸ has been plagued with disastrous circumstances that have brought about one disaster after another. Kava is a country that is in dire need of some help and aid in the situation of getting the country cleaned up and on its way to recovery. The job of the director of strategic planning is to see what the Macy’s, Inc. can do to help this country recover and continue on a path of growth and success. Macy’s, Inc. currently has a small presence over in the country of Kava. The goal of Macy’s, Inc. is to “be a retailer with the ability to see opportunity on the horizon and have a clear path for capitalizing on it” (Company Statements & Slogans, 2008). Macy’s, Inc. sees an opportunity in Kava and needs to make a clear path so that we can capitalize on it. Since Macy’s, Inc has a long standing tradition of believing that giving back is the right thing to do (Macy's Inc, 2011) , we would like to help Kava try to recover from all the disasters they have gone through, and help to overcome the challenges that they are now facing. Macy’s will do this by addressing the issues found in the business scenario, forces involved in the formulation of the problem, and organizational and environmental obstacles impacting key stakeholders. After looking at the business scenario and seeing what the director......

Decisions in Paradise Part 1

...Decisions in Paradise Part I Stephen Hill MGT/350 April 3, 2011 Instructor: Queen Lane Decisions in Paradise When people think of islands of the South Pacific some may immediately think of sun, crystal clear waters, and magnificent sights. This was not the case for the island of Kava. Shortly after finishing my degree in business management, I landed a job as assistant strategic planner. According to Summit’s web page they are an “automotive supplier of injection molded interior trim, which specializes in the engineering, manufacturing and assembly.” The Island of Kava Upon accepting the job offer I learned that the position requires me to travel to other parts of the world. My first assignment would take me to the Island of Kava. I did not know much about Kava going into the project. I pictured a beautiful island in the South Pacific. Although I never heard of Kava I was excited and looking forward to this new job. I thought that I may even get the chance to do some shopping and enjoys the sights, this was not the case. When I arrived in Kava, I was in for a surprise. Kava was not all what I had perceived it to be. During the ride to the company office I noticed that Kava was a mess. Most of the buildings leading up to the company office were a mess. Needless to say the company office was also a mess. It became apparent to me that some disaster had taken place in Kava. My boss Alex whom I thought was a male was at the receptionist desk to greet...

Decisions in Paradise Part 1

...Decisions in Paradise Business Scenario Vanita Lash University of Phoenix MGT/350 Professor Courtney Wilson March 12, 2012 Plan for Kava Part 1 Organizational processes Inadequate organization structure and work processes may hinder an organization from accomplishing their goals. The first task that needs to be addressed is focusing on the customer. The company needs to gather information on their target customers. An example would be finding out what are the target age ranges, gender, and economic class that the company will be catering to. Once the company has the information the next step is finding a way to supply their target customers with the product or service that they need. Once the product or service is determined, the company has to find a way to supply the service or product at a better rate than their competitors. Planning plays a key role in the organizational process. As stated by (Strategic planning-the basic idea, 2012) “The process is about planning because it involves intentionally setting goals and developing an approach to achieving those goals.  The process is disciplined in that it calls for a certain order and pattern to keep it focused and productive.” Asking questions is another critical aspect of the organizational process. An example would be asking “what is the most significant problem that needs to be solved first?” Once the organization knows what problem......

...Decisions In Paradise Part I Nikki Henderson MGT/350 April 2, 2012 Instructor: Kenneth Pinaire The Island of Kava has numerous hurdles to surmount in order to better the calamitous circumstances of the populace. The distinct conditions of the cataclysmic events in losing family, through natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, tidal waves, and tornadoes, as well as pandemics such as HIV/AIDS overwhelms the imagination. The Kava government has toiled with Nik in offering and making available first aid, food, and shelter to all those who need it. Nik senses the anguish and the angst and of the people and he understands the desires and requirements of all the citizens of Kava. Nik would greatly enjoy helping the citizens of Kava by becoming a vigorous and dynamic force in restoring the island. Nik has communicated with the government officials and has been imparted with their assistance and encouragement in the rebuilding efforts by being supplied with basic necessities such as adequate amounts of clean and fresh water. Nik’s company is obviously aware of needs such as those on Kava that are prevalent in countries around the globe. By expanding the world’s awareness of this company’s products (primarily bottled water) and their humanitarian efforts, they......

...Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Shauny MGT/350 April 01, 2012 Instructor Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 Nik recently received his college degree and successfully landed a job with Hewlett-Packard (HP), a multinational information technology Corporation. The organization markets to governments, consumers, businesses, and schools worldwide. Hewlett-Packard strategy is to bring the depth, breadth, advantages, competitiveness, and innovation of the company portfolio to consumers in every country (Hewlett-Packard Development Company (2012). Approximately two-thirds of HP’s revenue is retrieved from outside of the United States (Hewlett-Packard Development Company (2012). Nik has been assigned to assess the potential benefits of conducting business in Kava, a small island country that resides in the South Pacific. After Nik landed on the island of Kava, he realized that his perception of the island was not what he had perceived it to be. However, Nik was sent to Kava to complete a mission; not to enjoy a vacation. The geographic location of Kava presented an issue that could pose as a reoccurring threat. Based on the location of the island, there is no way Kava can avoid the threats of floods, tsunamis, typhoons, and cyclones. Although Kava is an island, fires have occurred in the community. Kava’s community also suffers from avian flu and HIV/AIDS. The threats on the island may pose danger to the locals as well as the entire island. Damages caused by tsunami’s and......

Decisions in Paradise, Part 1

...Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 John Jones MGT/350 July 28, 2011 Professor Jacobs Decisions in Paradise, Part 1 There are many obstacles that you encounter when trying to expand your growing business into an island in the South Pacific. The island of Kava has many issues because of many disasters that have taken place over the past few years. Over half of the population is under the age of 15. This age issue exists because of the diseases that are present in Kava. There has been widespread illness due to HIV and the high risk of the avian flu. There are some religious differences due to having a fairly diverse set of beliefs on the island. There is a strong ethnic mix that includes indigenous South Pacific tribes, French, African, Spanish, Asian (mostly Chinese), and since the 1940’s, a large amount of Americans. There is a language barrier that consists of the indigenous dialect, English, Spanish, and French. The economy is comprised of trade of coffee, spices, cocoa, bananas, sugar, natural gas, and petroleum. There is also tourism and fishing in Kava. The labor on Kava is high in quality, but also it is inexpensive. Many natural disasters have impacted the country, such as tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. There has been pollution in the waters because of petroleum spills. To make matters worse, there has been terrorism from within and outside of the country. There are several problems that need to be......
