Refurbishing Heathrow Airport Terminal 1, On Time, On Budget, With No Disruptions to Travelling Public

The refurbishment of terminal 1 at Heathrow Airport was an issue that needed to be reviewed delicately. This was at it is one of the busiest airports in the world and the project manager wanted to keep the airport opened at all times. It was also a 40-year-old building, with little of no maintenance having been done during its time of being open.

Within the refurbishment of this project there were many positives and setbacks.

The three main positives were * The experienced project manager * Technology challenges * The Electrical risk

The three main setbacks were: * The budget changes * Structural challenges (uneven floor) * Asbestos

POSITIVES

The Project Manager
The main positive thing about the project was the project manager David Buisson was one of the main reasons that the project ran as smoothly as it did. He was a certified project manager with more then 13 years of experience. With this size and scale of project it was something that was a must. This was because within this project there were a large amount of people within different teams that all need to be seen to. This was to make sure that all of the processes were built in the right order. Meaning that there was no waiting time in between the different phases. This was to maximize the time efficiency of the project to make sure that it was completed on time. There were also many high profile stakeholders that were involved within the project. Meaning that Buisson was constantly making sure that they were happy with the progression of the project and that they were well informed.
