Management Decision

To be an effective manager, I would want to choose the items that mean the most to my employee's while ensuring the employee morale stays high. If cuts need to be made, the best way to break the news to employees without causing any alarm is to focus on the perks they will be keeping, while also bringing to light the potential for other perks based on individual performance. Some employees may feel more at ease if given some kind of say in the process of which perks are cut. This can be achieved by conducting a survey. By asking what's most important to each person, and analyzing the information gathered, the decision process becomes somewhat easier for management. By giving the employees a choice of which perks stays, and which perks are cut, the employees have a chance to analyze which are more beneficial to their overall morale, and which are of little significance to them. To benefit the overall financial standing of the company, in an already damaged economy, I would cut free lunch, massages, beach house access, and the $1,000 bonus. Massages could be budgeted as “special bonus” or reward to individuals with the highest productivity or accuracy percentages, on a quarterly or semi-quarterly basis. Other rewards or incentives, such as gift cards, thank you cards, or an occasional a free lunch to individuals whom show improvement in their levels, are less expensive and could be budgeted accordingly. An effective manager would want to develop a comprehensive program to reward and recognize employees whom deliver and possess the following attributes: self-leading, exceptional customer service, driving a high performance culture, and demonstrating teamwork while always having a positive attitude.

I would want to come up with a new (hypothetical) perks package for my employees. Some of these packages may include: 1. Quality Award a. Criteria: Employee with the fewest number of errors throughout the quarter. b. Frequency – Quarterly c. Reward - Reward Points to be used at company store d. Recognition - Publish name on the department website 2. Team Member of the Quarter a. Criteria - Nominations will be submitted from the staff. Management will review each of the nominees and select a winner b. Frequency – Quarterly c. Reward - 50 Reward Points to be used at company store d. Recognition - Publish winner and runner up on the website 3. Process Improvement a. Criteria - Identifying and implementing significant, cost saving, process efficiencies within the department b. Frequency - Ongoing/As Implemented c. Possible Rewards - Spot Bonus, Gift Card, Reward Points 4. Most Phone Calls a. Criteria - The three people with the most ACD phone calls b. Frequency – Monthly c. Reward - 15 Rewards Points to be used at company store d. Recognition - Name on the website 5. Anniversaries a. Criteria - Will be recognized every 5 years (5, 10, 15.... ) of service with the company b. Frequency - Ongoing/AS Anniversaries occur c. Reward - Employee choice, lunch with their team, cake with the department, lunch with manager d. Recognition - Name published on retirement/anniversary list that's distributed by human resources 6. Informal Rewards a. Certificates of Achievement b. Fun Committee (plan fun events) c. Kudos cards
