Michelle Obama at the 2008 DNC
Ethos- Michelle Obama uses ethos in her speech when she begins speaking about her own life at the beginning. She said that running for president is nothing compared to the first game of basketball with Craig her brother. Also she mentions that much like Craig she can feel her dad looking down on her. In addition, standing at 6’6” felt like Craig was literally looking down on her when really he was protecting her and watching over her. The reason I find that this appeals to ethos because Michelle Obama is the author that is referencing back to her own life which is personal impressions that she used.
Pathos- She used pathos when she goes to say one of her greatest joys is seeing her mother’s integrity, compassion

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Presidential Debate

...a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward, the presidential debate is focusing on one question what makes a good president? The two candidates use a mix of eye contact and physical movement to get the audience's attention and show what they meant and where feeling they also used things like pathos, ethos and logos that helped to support their debate. In the presidential debate both candidates use rhetorical analysis such as ethos in their responses to the questions that were being asked by the audience. When being used, the candidates were attacking each others ethos. For example, when Clinton said, “when I hear something like that, I am reminded of what my friend Michelle Obama advised us all. When they go low, you go high”(CBSNewsOnline) it showed that she is already connected to power and that she is associated with the First Lady and the whole presidential family. Once she brought in the First Lady it gave her a step up from trump because she now got the support from the civilians that love Michelle Obama. There...

Pathos And Logos And Hot-Fudge

... Fa(S) t Food & F(A)st Citizens Comparing two articles is not an easy job it is like having two plates on the table in front of you. One filled with Hot-Fudge and the other filled with Garden Salad. Well, it is obvious, that our taste buds would crave for the Hot-Fudge and not for the salad. “Smart Choices” eat healthy and stay healthy, sounds right, but not all the time. In the same way, an essay may sound just right until we analyze it rhetorically. An essay, constructed with equal and right amounts of Ethos. Pathos and Logos would be the one under the limelight, which in this case is “Remarks to the NACCP” by Michelle Obama, over “Unhappy...

Black Identity in the Us

...of language and tone. And finally, I am going to argue my own view of the situation of African Americans today in text 2. Text 1 “Black is being seen in a whole new light” is a commentary by Yolanda Young from US Today 2009. Young is herself “a woman the color of black coffee” (Page 2 line 6-7) and she finds the struggle of being black not so tough anymore because Michelle Obama a black women who looks just like Young is living in the White House and is married to the most powerful man in the world Barack Obama. Psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark provided an experiment in 1954 where they conducted in which black children were presented with a black doll and a white one. The children were then asked which they thought was better. In the start the children chose the white doll but short after the Obamas moved to the White House the children were again asked to choose a doll. Nearly half the black kids chose the black doll now.
