Mindy Again: A Short Story

It had been nice to see Mindy again.

Jim hadn't seen much of her since she graduated high school and gone off to college. She'd gotten more attractive since he'd last seen her. She'd never been unattractive, but there was something about her now that made it so that he couldn't stop thinking of her, which was a pretty impressive accomplishment under the circumstances. After all, there were certainly other worthwhile things to be thinking about at the moment.

His day had started off plainly enough, and he still was trying to piece together how he'd ended up in his current predicament. He'd gone to work and done some rounds. When he'd come home, he'd noticed Mindy standing out in the yard of her parents' house, his neighbors. By the way she was dressed, she was clearly becoming a little more comfortable with her body, and he'd had to make a small effort not to stare. She'd said goodbye to her parents and he'd lingered outside to chat with her for a bit before giving her a hug goodbye. She'd always been affectionate, yet her return hug had surprised him, pressing close to him as though unaware that he no longer saw his neighbor's daughter when he looked at her. He must have been hard when he hugged her; he was hard now just remembering it... …show more content…
She was leaving...what happened next? She'd gotten into her car and started it. No, tried to start it. The car hadn't worked. He'd offered to take her home and she'd kindly rejected the offer. What a night that could have been...alone with her in her apartment, changing out of her clothes...FOCUS! Instead, he'd ended up agreeing to take her a few miles away to an auto parts place. What

...Season 1 Episode 1 Sex and the city aired "Once upon a time an English journalist came to New York. Elizabeth was attractive and bright, and right away she hooked up with one of the city's eligible bachelors. The question remains, is this a company we want to own? Tim was 42. A well-liked and respected banker, who made about two million a year. They met one evening, in typical New York fashion, at a gallery opening. Like it? Yes, actually I think it's quite interesting. What? I feel like I know you. Oh, doubtful. I just moved here from London. Really? That's my favorite city. It is? Absolutely. It was love at first sight. You know, I think perhaps I have met you somewhere before. For two weeks they snuggled... went to romantic restaurants... had wonderful sex... and shared the most intimate secrets. One day, he took her to a house he saw in the New York Times. How about if we start at the top? There are four bedrooms upstairs. Do you have any children? Not yet. That day Tim popped the question. Would you like to meet my folks Tues-day night? I'd love to. On Tuesday he called with some bad news. My mother's not feeling very well. Oh, gosh, I'm sorry. Can we take a rain check? Of course. Tell your mum I hope she feels better. When she hadn't heard from him for two weeks, she called. Tim, it's Elizabeth. That's an awfully long rain check. He said he was up to his ears and that he'd call the next day. He never did call... Bastard. She told me one day over coffee. I don't understand...

Advice for Manager

...Advice for managers: Intrapersonal Skills Achieve and Maintain Confidence, Focus, and Positive Self-image Decreasing Self-Oriented Perfectionism Work on your self-esteem, and try to stop the automatic thinking that sets your sights so high that your efforts can never measure up. It is OK to be hard on yourself on occasion, but be sure to take some time to be proud of your successes as a manager - and as a person. Reflect seriously about how you perceive yourself. Note your own negative and positive self-impressions. Write down what you like about yourself, what your strengths are, the people to whom you are important, and why you are important to them. Also, keep track of your negative perceptions and try to figure out why you took that particular issue so seriously. Maybe it wasn’t so bad after all. Explore why you should be proud of yourself and review this list often. Keep a journal of your thoughts, moods, and daily activities. Observe your automatic reactions to events at work and how you feel about yourself during daily life. If you make what you see as a horrendous mistake and feel like the lowest, lamest, most despicable worm on the earth, then write down the event, how you feel about yourself, and how you interpret the situation. Next, consider the situation from other perspectives and write these thoughts down as well. Follow these steps to gain new insight about your perceptions: - Do a serious reality-check: Are other people thinking as scathingly about you? If...

Saylor URL: http://www.saylor.org/books Saylor.org 1 Preface Competing books are focused on the academic part of HRM, which is necessary in a university or college setting. However, the goal with this book is not only to provide the necessary academic background information but also to present the material with a practitioner’s focus on both large and small businesses. While the writing style is clear and focused, we don’t feel jargon and ten-dollar words are necessary to making a good textbook. Clear and concise language makes the book interesting and understandable (not to mention more fun to read) to the future HRM professional and manager alike. It is highly likely that anyone in business will have to take on an HRM role at some point in their careers. For example, should you decide to start your own business, many of the topics discussed will apply to your business. This is the goal of this book; it is useful enough for the HRM professional, but the information presented is also applicable to managers, supervisors, and entrepreneurs. Besides these differences, other key differences include the following:   This book utilizes a technology focus and shows how HRM activities can be leveraged using technology. We have also included a chapter on communication and information...

Global Marketing

...PART 1 Introduction CHAPTER 1 Introduction to Global Marketing Case 1-1 The Global Marketplace Is Also Local onsider the following proposition: We live in a global marketplace. McDonald’s restaurants, Sony digital TVs, LEGO toys, Swatch watches, Burberry trench coats, and Caterpillar earthmoving equipment are found practically everywhere on the planet. Global companies are fierce rivals in key markets. For example, American auto industry giants General Motors and Ford are locked in a competitive struggle with Toyota,Hyundai, and other global Asian rivals as well as European companies such as Volkswagen. U.S.based Intel, the world’s largest chip maker, competes with South Korea’s Samsung. In the global cell phone market, Nokia (Finland), Ericsson (Sweden), Motorola (United C States), and Samsung are key players. Appliances from Whirlpool and Electrolux compete for precious retail space with products manufactured and marketed by China’s Haier Group and LG of South Korea. Now consider a second proposition: We live in a world in which markets are local. In China, for example, Yum Brands’ new East Dawning fast-food chain competes with local restaurants such as New Asia Snack.1 France’s domestic film industry generates about 40 percent of local motion picture box office receipts; U.S.-made movies account for about 50 percent. In Turkey, local artists such as Sertab account for more than 80 percent of recorded Exhibit 1-1: England’s Burberry Group celebrated its...
