Case Study Questions

1. One consulting firm has predicted that video and Web conferencing will make business travel extinct. Do you agree? Why or why not?
Disagree. To some extent, video and web conferencing do reduce the business travel, but not completely. There are still plenty of times when face-to-face interaction is more desirable, and often traveling to meet a client is essential for cultivating clients and closing sales. When it is necessary to be present, there is no alternative.

2.What is the distinction between videoconferencing and telepresence?
Videoconferencing is the conduct of a videoconference (also known as a video conference or video teleconference) by a set of telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations to communicate by simultaneous two-way video and audio transmissions.
Telepresence refers to a set of technologies which allows a person to feel as if they were present, to give the appearance of being present, or to have an effect, at a place other than their true location. It is the top-of-the-line videoconferencing technology.
The distinction between them lies in technology. Telepresence picks up where videoconferencing leaves off. Telepresence is real time, full-high-definition, immersible sound and vision and more technologically advanced than videoconferencing and thus more costly than it.

What are the ways in which videoconferencing provides value to a business? Would you consider it smart management? Explain your answer. Videoconferencing can enable individuals in distant locations to participate in meetings on short notice, with time and money savings. Intel Corporation have used videoconferencing to reduce both costs and environmental impacts of its business operations Videoconferencing is also currently being introduced on online networking websites, in order to help businesses form profitable relationships quickly and efficiently without leaving their place of work. This has been leveraged by banks to connect busy banking professionals with customers in various locations using video banking technology. It also helps improve communications and professional relationships.
Definitely it is smart management.

If you were in charge of a small business, would you choose to implement videoconferencing? What factors would you consider in your decision?
Yes, we would choose to implement videoconferencing. It would reduce the cost and time and really benefit a lot. But implementing videoconferencing depends on the nature of my venture and also to make sure whether it is a profitable venture. The factors should be consider is:
The nature of the venture
How employees conduct meetings
How they communicate and with what technologies
How much travel(frequency)
How the company’s networks are profitability MIS in action

Understanding these theories can provide useful insight into individuals and society. 1. Psychosexual development is a theory credited to Sigmund Freud, According to Freud, a person's experiences at an early age dramatically influence both his personality and his future actions. Freud's psychosexual development theory focuses on psychosexual stages, with each focused on a particular part of the body capable of producing pleasant or pleasurable feelings, and each playing a role in the development of sexual instinct. Affirmative Action

...Affirmative Action Jackie Carter COM/220 May 18, 2011 Staci Weaver CheckPoint - Introduction and Conclusion Are affirmative action policies and programs still necessary in this day and age, even if it creates reverse discrimination? One of the country’s top debated issues is affirmative action. Affirmative Action came about when President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 10925 that created the President’s Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity whose purpose was to ensure all employees are treated fairly, without regard to race, creed, color, or national origin (Elliott & Ewoh, 2000). Since its inception, Affirmative Action program and policies have taken on a life of their own. Affirmative action is a term that refers to mandatory and voluntary programs intended to affirm the civil rights of designated classes of individuals. Affirmative action or Executive Order 11246 (EO11246) was created, after the civil rights movement, by the federal courts to ensure companies were not using discriminatory hiring practices. Affirmative action is similar but different from equal opportunity. Equal opportunity is an attempt to avoid discrimination by applying the performance related criteria to all applicants, in other words, each individual should be given the same treatment as all other individuals. Unequal treatment of minority groups is considered discriminatory and illegal. This process ignores the past history of discrimination of an employer and......

...What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system? The goal is to have detailed information about the sender, destination and when the package should arrive. Even before the package is picked up, information from the "smart" label is transmitted to one of the UPS computer centers and then sent to the closest center for the destination, they even download it and create the most efficient delivery route. The first thing a UPS driver picks up each day is a handheld computer called a Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD), which they can log into and download the route, it's then uploaded for storage that takes less than a minute and processing and can be accessed worldwide for proof or customer queries. Because of these things what UPS has done is made the delivery as efficient as possible and highly monitored by both them and their customers. Basically storing all different information such as the destination, the time it should arrive as well as the customers information. What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS’s business strategy? Now the second question asks how the technology relates to their business strategy, and the only thing i could find regarding their business strategy is one quote from 1907 that promised: “The best service and lowest rates.” So with that in mind lets start with the scannable bar-coded label.
