Actions “Just Lather, That’s All” and “The Fifty-First Dragon”

1Actions can often portray a person’s needs, wants, and hopes. 2“Just Lather, That’s All” by Hernando Tellez and “The Fifty-First Dragon” by Christopher Morley are two stories that convey that the two protagonist’s actions display how they feel. 3Both stories prove how their actions reveal what is on their minds, even though their situations are completely divergent.
4Allthough each of these short stories speak about the actions of the protagonists; this paragraph will analyze the difference between the two. 5Each character in both story are given a problem, and they act very differently. 6Gawaine plays a young dragon slayer in “The Fifty-First Dragon”, and from the fact that he can slaughter a living creature in a single, mocking swing of his sword, we can tell that he doesn’t care for the well-being of the dragon, and only focuses on his fame and glory that exceeds from his sinful act. 7In the story “Just Lather, That’s All” the Barber thinks long and hard before deciding whether to, or not to murder the cruel general that sits comfortably in the barber chair, within the barber’s reach. 8Nervousness proves whether the person has the ability to commit a hasty decision, or to back away slowly. 9Gawaine swings his sword and slices through each dragon without any fear at all. 10Gawaine is evidently different than the Barber whose hands evidently tremble from his anxiety. 11Although the Barber would seem timid and frightened, we can tell that his personality helped him make the right choice by not killing the General.
12While comparing these two essay’s I have discovered many similarities. 13For one, both characters, like many of us, try to avoid harm. 14Gawaine protests that he needs a magic hat or word to protect him, proving that he is afraid of getting hurt. 15So too, the Barber’s final thought is that he doesn’t want harm from the General’s supporters. 16Another emotion that comes over the dragon slayer and the barber is insecurity. 17Gawain hides in the bushes in the beginning of “The Fifty-First Dragon” due to his incapability of performing jousting skills like the other students. 18The Barber’s hands tremble as he thinks how impossible it would come out of this situation innocent, and how wrong it would be. 19Evidently so, many situations prove how both characters actions prove the same state of mind.
20Both stories have occurrences of actions portraying their thoughts compelled by different characters. 21Gawaine proves his courage, but ends badly, while the Barber’s insecurity and thoughtfulness leave him innocent. 22Actions are important things, for they tell us who we are, and who we are going to be.

Why Do People Do Volunteer Work

...HRPYC81 PROJECT 4809 Assignment 2 What motivates people to do volunteer work? MJ SCRIVEN TABLE OF CONTENTS LITERATURE REVIEW There are almost as many reasons for getting involved in volunteer work as there are volunteers. Once people get started, they find that their deepest rewards are ones they didn't expect when they first came looking for a volunteer assignment. Participants entered the volunteer world through ads in the paper, articles in the media and invitations by friends. They wanted to get involved in a new community, they overheard someone talking about a need or they just wanted to be active. Some wanted to repay a perceived debt to society and others took up volunteer work as part of a major reassessment of their lives and priorities. They came looking for a better balance in their lives, a learning experience, something to do with their time after retirement or something to add to their skills and their resumes. A good number had a stake in the organization where they were helping. This might be a friend or relative with a disability or a disease or the expectation that they themselves might someday need the service. “The idea that an individual would make significant personal sacrifices for another person, particularly when that person is a stranger, has long fascinated students of social behaviour” (Clary et al. 1998: 1516). “Volunteerism may be defined as contributing one's time or talents for charitable, educational, social,......

Sonia got embarrassed and told Raymond that she didn't enjoy being talked to in that manner, and she walked away. Behind the Smiles

...A Place In This World don`t know what I want, so don`t ask me Cause I`m still trying to figure it out Don`t know what`s down this road, I`m just walking Trying to see through the rain coming down Even though I`m not the only one Who feels the way I do [Chorus:] I`m alone, on my own, and that`s all I know I`ll be strong, I`ll be wrong, oh but life goes on I`m just a girl, trying to find a place in This world Got the radio on, my old blue jeans And I`m wearing my heart on my sleeve Feeling lucky today, got the sunshine Could you tell me what more do I need And tomorrow`s just a mystery, oh yeah But that`s ok [Repeat Chorus] Maybe I`m just a girl on a mission But I`m ready to fly [Repeat Chorus] Back To December I'm so glad you made time to see me How's life? Tell me, how's your family? I haven't seen them in a while You've been good, busier than ever We small talk, work and the weather Your guard is up, and I know why Because the last time you saw me Is still burned in the back of your mind You gave me roses, and I left them there to die So this is me swallowing my pride Standing in front of you, saying I'm sorry for that night And I go back to December all the time It turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you Wishing I'd realized what I had when you were mine I go back to December, turn around and make it alright I go back to December all the time These days, I haven't been sleeping Staying up, playing......

NEWSREEL Paramount News brings you a special coverage of Princess Ann's visit to London, the first stop on her much publicised goodwill tour of European capitals. She gets a royal welcome from the British as thousands cheer the gracious young member of one of Europe's oldest ruling families. After three days of continuous activity and a visit to Buckingham Palace, Ann flew to Amsterdam where Her Royal Highness dedicated the new International Aid Building and christened an ocean liner. Then went to Paris where she attended many official functions designed to cement trade relations between her country and the Western European nations. And so to Rome, the eternal city, where the Princess' visit was marked by a spectacular military parade highlighted by the band of the crack Piersa Yeri Regiment. The smiling young Princess showed no sign of the strain of the week's continuous public appearances. And at her country's embassy that evening, a formal reception and ball in her honor was given by her country's ambassador to Italy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Embassy ballroom. Jade and Harper looked shocked as well, jaws slightly aslack. The one man that held my attention was Kyle, his grey eyes glared into mine filled with something sinfully dark I found myself gulping, his lips curled into a cruel smile and he scoffed before looking away. "Gimme ten minutes sweetheart. I'll be out soon just buy some food. Its on me!" Yes. I was starving. "You are darling Chuck! I'd marry you if I could!" I yelled back already hopping towards the phone on the counter. I called my favourite Kebab House and ordered a donner kebab. "You want anything Chuck?" I was well aware of the boys staring at me, there eyes trailing over my low cut, off shoulder crop jumper to my camel skort and then to my lace stockings down to my heeled sandals. My tattoes peaked out of the hem of my skirt, and I pulled off my gloves revealing the trbial marks tattoed on my hands.
