Alison Peterson v. Grocery Depot, Inc
Business Law 226
March 3rd, 2011
Jack Schwab

The Alison Peterson v. Grocery Depot Inc tort lawsuit is about an incident that occurs in countless grocery stores across the United States. Peterson is alleging Grocery Depot Inc. was negligent in their duty of care to her as a business visitor. Grocery Depot Inc. as a property owner has a legal duty to maintain the grocery store premises in a safe and hazard free condition or to warn a customer about any situation that could be dangerous. Peterson alleges Grocery Depot Inc breached this duty, which resulted in her slip and fall.
Grocery Depot Inc. has hired the McAfee law firm, to defend the store in this personal liability claim. McAfees’ lead lawyer Jacki believes that Grocery Depot Inc. store manager James D’Lake testimony is crucial to the defense of this case. She believes his testimony will show the grocery store has practices and procedures in place to minimize liability.
The strongest points that will be relieved in D’ Lakes’ testimony for the defense is:
• Grocery depot Inc safety policies and practices
• The store employees’ willingness to adhere to the policies
• The condition of the store premises On the other hand, the strongest points that plaintiff’s lawyers will want to relieve is:
• The stores procedures for banana displays
• Whether Grocery Depot Inc acted reasonably to prevent the slip and fall
Grocery Depot Inc defense lawyer Jacki, will be asking ten vital questions in her direct examination of D’Lake. Jacki believes the witness will be able to testify about the facts that support the defense’s case.
1. Mr. D’Lake please describe to the court the company’s safety policies and procedures. She would ask this question to establish the foundation of the store safety policies.
2. How does the store ensure employees are aware of the

Red Badge of Courage

...Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage drives him to his ultimate quest for manhood. Henry, often referred to as ‘the youth’, enlists in war with the belief that he’ll achieve manhood through a valiant soldier’s life. The premise of his enlistment is his endeavour to attain self-worth and a heroic stature, a microcosm of the need for human beings to achieve recognition. The novel is spanned across two days of heated battle between the Confederate soldiers and the Union during the American Civil War (schmoop,2012). This essay will bring to light Michael Walzer’s opinions on the rules of war and moral decencies in battles in situ to Henry’s red badge of courage. Walzer, a political theorist, insists on the importance of ethics and need for conventions for the abolition of war rather than it’s toleration. As Henry is exposed to the realities of war, his conceptualization of manhood evolves from a naïve lust for glory to a noble and selfless rationale of life. This essay will identify the changes in Henry’s perception of manhood as a result of his experiences on and off the battlefield by analyzing his inner turmoil of self-doubt and insecurity. The heroism associated with military exultance intoxicates and thus misleads Henry into believing that war brings glamour and honor. This resonates with Walzer’s argument that “military honor is still the creed of the professional soldier” (Walzer, 1977). Henry’s decision to enlist in the war is spurred from his desire for a reputation and...

William Kidd

...[Company name] | Essay 2 | The Trial of William Kidd | Jessica Sweazea 11-11-2015 | A scandalous conspiracy created by England for increased continuous revenue or a fair trial sending a guilty man to the gallows? Death as a victory of law or a demise of democracy at sea? The trial of William Kidd is an important and controversial topic of discussion for historians and students studying piracy. Whether or not William Kidd’s trial was manufactured to tarnish Kidd’s name and make an example of him is an important part of piratical history. The story of Kidd’s trial illustrates how the world of western piracy came to an end and how government handled piratical activities. Rediker describes pirates as uncivilized beings, drunks, thieves, madmen, and even almost unhuman like. In chapter eight, he wrote “the pirates were full of madness and rage” yet later in the passage Rediker later contradicts himself and also continued to state how humorous and knowledgeable the pirates were. These pirates were seen as outlaws, interrupting intercolonial trade, and a threat against principles of property, individuals, society, and nations. Many mariners were accused of piracy which is a crime against property by theft or destruction, causing Great Britain to take action. In 1699, Great Britain created the English Acts of Piracy. This began the trials for pirates throughout the English dominium. After, came the Proclamation for Suppressing Piracy in 1717 followed by another proclamation...

...this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader, and 2. More than anything, you want to communicate those ideas to your reader. These reminders may seem obvious to you, but without a solid commitment to your own opinions as well as to your reader, your prose will be lifeless and boring. If you don’t care about your subject, you can’t very well expect anyone else to. Have confidence that your ideas are...

...GRE Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Topic - 1 "Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time." GRE AWA Analytical Writing ISSUE Essay Sample Solution – 1 “The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.” ― Niels Bohr[->0] This is a proven fact that truth is the initial stage of progress. However, it is also believed that truth always starts away from the traditions and conventions. Therefore, people consider truths as attacks upon their beliefs, which people are following from ages. Truth also means some new facts that are unknown to us. People do not want to deviate from the facts, which they have learnt from their ancestors, and it is true to say that shedding ones dogmas is often difficult. They feel that it is an attack on their wisdom. If we look at the history of the world, we will find many examples where truth has generated commotions in the society. Different people have different views about the existence of God, life after death and origin of earth etc. For example, people took a long time to accept that the earth is round. Religious leaders and clergymen opposed this idea as it was against what they were teaching. Similarly, when Polish astronomer, Copernicus discovered that the earth goes round the sun and not vice versa, he was opposed by churches for many years. In fact he and his supporters were...

Supernatural by Brother Branham

...Supernatural: The Life of William Branham Book 6: The Prophet and His Revelation 1960 – 1965 by Owen Jorgensen 1 Acknowledgments: In a project of this magnitude, it is understandable that I should owe many people a debt of gratitude for their help. First of all I want to thank Pearry Green for his vision, his encouragement and his efforts in publishing and distributing these books. I also want to thank Saundra Miles, David Buckley, Jay Weber, and the other people who spent many hours editing and proof reading the six manuscripts in this series. Their suggestions helped to make this a better book and a more accurate account of William Branham‘s life. Also, I want to thank Steven and Kathy Strooh, who put these books into audio format for all those people who would rather listen than read. I must certainly thank those people who have translated these books into their native languages: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Norwegian, Hindi, and many other languages. Supernatural: the Life of William Branham took me 17 years to complete. I was 34 when I started and 51 when I finished. To put that into perspective, my four children were in grade school when I began writing this biography. By the time I finished, three of my children were married and I had nine grandchildren. During the 17 years I worked on this project, my life had its ups and downs. I want to thank everyone who prayed for me during those 17 years. Finally I want to thank my four children—Benaiah...

Those searching for more information about this British author would have come across an old school photograph of a small boy aged perhaps five or six years old. A few lines of curt white typeface gave a few brief details: his current age, the fact that he was born in London in 1969, and, perhaps surprisingly, his blood group (HbAD) and a hyperlink to his genotype (human). Kunzru is joking, here, about the contemporary thirst for biographical details about writers. As he puts it, nowadays, "British journalists seem more interested in your biography or your publishing deal--the British press is interested in writers, but it isn't interested in writing" (Litt, 2004). The starkly playful nature of Kunzru's 2007 website poked fun both...
