Many people in the world are people like Mitch, worried about money and always wanting to be bigger and better than everyone else. These people all have one thing in common, that they do not know the true meaning of happiness. It does not come from striving to be the best. Mitch’s old college professor, Morrie, spends his last days teaching his final lessons on how to live life to the fullest. Morrie teaches people to live life through the love of family, the importance of showing emotions, and forgiving others for actions not taken. First of all, Morrie teaches that nobody can get anything as important as the love that family provides. He knows that this is a very important topic because he lost his mother when he was young. Later on, he …show more content…
Morrie had a friend named Norman who never asked for Morrie’s help when he really needed it, so Morrie decided to drop their friendship. Norman tried to become friends again, but Morrie disagreed. Norman died from cancer before Morrie could forgive him or even talk to him again. This tragic event was how he learned the importance of forgiving others. On the topic of forgiveness, Morrie says “We also need to forgive ourselves, for all the things we didn’t do. All the things we should have done. You can’t get stuck on the regrets of what should have happened” (Albom 166). I agree with Morrie on this topic. He talks about how forgiving is important. If no one ever forgives, they will always end up regretting. People never know when something terrible could happen, and there would be no more time to forgive each other. This is why learning to forgive others is very important. I can really connect to forgiveness in a way. I have two friends that were friends for nine years. Last year, they had a huge fight, and they no longer talk to each other. They refuse to forgive one another. If something were to happen to either of them, the other would regret all that they are doing now because they still care about each other. This has taught be a lot about forgiveness and how important it is. Learning to forgive earlier on helps avoid regret

Tuesdays with Morrie

...Tuesdays with Morrie: an old man, a young man, and life’s greatest lesson By Mitch Albom Courtesy: Shahid Riaz Islamabad – Pakistan shahid.riaz@gmail.com “Tuesdays with Morrie” By Mitch Albom 2 Acknowledgments I would like to acknowledge the enormous help given to me in creating this book. For their memories, their patience, and their guidance, I wish to thank Charlotte, Rob, and Jonathan Schwartz, Maurie Stein, Charlie Derber, Gordie Fellman, David Schwartz, Rabbi Al Axelrad, and the multitude of Morrie’s friends and colleagues. Also, special thanks to Bill Thomas, my editor, for handling this project with just the right touch. And, as always, my appreciation to David Black, who often believes in me more than I do myself. Mostly, my thanks to Morrie, for wanting to do this last thesis together. Have you ever had a teacher like this? The Curriculum The last class of my old professor’s life took place once a week in his house, by a window in the study where he could watch a small hibiscus plant shed its pink leaves. The class met on Tuesdays. It began after breakfast. The subject was The Meaning of Life. It was taught from experience. No grades were given, but there were oral exams each week. You were expected to respond to questions, and you were expected to pose questions of your own. You were also required to perform physical tasks now and then, such as lifting the professor’s head to a comfortable spot on the pillow or placing his glasses on the bridge of his nose. Kissing...

Bush, Texas reporters had written numerous stories about his failed businesses in the oil patch, the dubious land grab and questionable funding behind a new stadium for Bush’s baseball team, the Texas Rangers, and his various political contradictions and hypocrisies while serving in Austin. I was one of those Texas journalists. I spent about a decade...
