As I climb out of the pickup truck I check my pockets for extra slugs. I reach over the box and unzip the soft padded case, revealing my trusty shotgun. I head to the edge of the road to load the six shells into the gun, five in the tube magazine and one in the chamber. The driver gives me a few brief final instructions for my part in the ensuing deer drive, and then pulls away as quietly as he can with a diesel motor. I lean the gun up against the barbed wire property line, and swing one leg up and over the top wire followed suite by the other.
