Human bonding is the process of developing a close interpersonal relationship with another person. Bonding typically refers to the process of attachment that develops between romantic partners, close friends, or parents and children. This bond is characterized by emotions such as affection and trust. Any two persons who spend time together can form a bond. In an adult or romantic relationship, the success of that relationship heavily relies on how strong is the bond between the two partners and since the bond between mother and a child is the first type of bonding a person can ever experience, I was wondering if maternal – infant bonding affects future adult relationships of individuals and whether it would be directly proportional or indirectly proportional.
Background Study Bonding is a unique and long-term emotional tie that begins with the first contact between the mother and infant. An infant’s first social tie is his/her mother, and this bond serves as a prototype of future relationships. The attachment bond is the term used for a baby’s first interactive love relationship - the one you had with your primary caregiver as an infant, usually your mother. This mother-infant attachment bond shapes a child’s brain, greatly influencing a person’s self-esteem, expectations of others, and ability to attract and maintain successful adult relationships. By learning about maternal – infant bonding and mother – child attachment, you can build healthier, attuned relationships, and communicate more effectively. The emotional attachment that grew between infants and their mother’s are the first interactive relationship of a person’s life, and it is based upon non-verbal communications and preverbal memories which are firmly imprinted on young infant’s psyches.
