MOVIE ANALYSIS
THREE IDIOTS

Entertaining, funny, tearjerker, inspirational, mind-boggling, intriguing, realistic, name it - anything you would want from a great movie, Three Idiots definitely got it all.

The movie basically features the lives of three college students during and after college and how the educational system works in India. I would like to share my point of view or analysis of the film based on some of the remarkable lines from the movie itself:

1. "And this is a college, not a pressure cooker. The lion in a circus learns that he needs to sit on the chair if his owner has a whip in his hand. But that lion is called well-trained, not well-educated." - Rancho

- True enough, this describes how much pressure, every college student has to deal with in order to meet their professors' high standards and accustomed school curriculum. The essence and joy of learning are being overlooked coz the students tend to be too bookish, go with the flow, say yes to everything the teacher has to say to make sure they get high or passing grades. To me, grades are just numbers and should never define one's knowledge and abilities.

2. "Make your passion your profession. So it will not be work but play." - Rancho

- It's your life, your choice. Never let anyone dictate you on what you're going to do with your life coz we only got one. Most especially in choosing a course or career you'd want to take. Yes, you might wanna consult your parents and ask their opinion but still you should always have the final say. Always follow your heart.

3. "Pursue for excellence, and success will chase you." - Rancho

- Find out what your passion is, what you love to do, and what your heart desires. Do your very best to excel on your chosen field and surely, success will follow. Be it the companies chasing you to be a part of their prestigious companies or you being

Film Analysis of 3 Idiots and Societal Impacts on Individualism

...Azim Ali Ali 1 Film Analysis of 3 Idiots and Societal Impacts on Individualism There is a classical Hindu scripture and story part of the Mahabharata called the Bhagavad Gita. In this story, one can tell the importance of sacrifice and dharma in Indian society. A legendary archer, Arjuna, has a major dilemma in the story in which he was to go to battle and fight, as he was a Kshatriya (warrior caste), or to not fight because he was going into battle to fight his uncles and aunts. Arjuna asked his chariot driver, an incarnation of Krishna, what he should do, and the driver told Arjuna to obey his dharma and fight just as his duty entailed him to and fight his loved ones. The dilemma that Arjuna experiences in the Bhagavad Gita is the same as the one many of the characters in 3 Idiots face. 3 Idiots is the perfect amalgamation of how dharma and izit affect one’s life in South Asia. Throughout the film, there were stories of characters facing the problem of being accepted in society as something other than what their parents wished them to be or do. 3 Idiots is a great movie that pushes the idea that duty and izit is not limited to family pressures or societal pressures, but also it pushes the idea that duty and izit can come from within and from individualism. The movie is a story of how three friends faced the major issues and problems with the education system in India and around the world. Three main characters: Rancho, Raju, and Farhan all coming from different...

...5. Introduction The idea of the topic came into my mind from the conversations I have regularly with my NSU mates. The topic is undoubtedly the most common issue among the NSU students. It is mostly driven by the complex grading policy that NSU follows, which is none other than the conflict between grade and learning. Students face dilemma while giving priority to learning over grades and I expect them to end up giving more priority to grades. Now, the question is why I have been so pessimistic about their will to learn. I have been studying in NSU for nearly two and a half years and till now, all the conversations I heard is related to grades. Before taking a course, students ask about the most liberal faculty who takes the course. Do they follow books or slides? Do they take make up exams? Do they curve the grades? I mean the word learning is all that is missing. Nobody feels the anticipation of doing something new in a course. Nobody is thrilled to learn something new or to explore themselves. All that matters is doing the course with least possible effort and a liberal faculty who gives good grades. From the beginning of my life at NSU, I have been wondering why grades and learning cannot go side by side. Why do students have to face dilemmas between them? It has to be the complex grading policy of NSU which does not let students have enough space to think about what they learn and keep them busy fighting to get good grades. Students never get to come out of the dilemma...

Autism

... Eric Courchesne of the University of California at San Diego has found significant impairments in auditory processing in autistic individuals using P300 brain wave technology (see Courchesne, 1987 for a review). The P300 brain wave occurs 300 milli-seconds after the presentation of a stimulus. (The ‘P’ refers to the positive polarity of the brain wave.) The P300 is associated with cognitive processing, and this brain wave is considered an indication of long-term memory retrieval (Donchin, Ritter, & McCallum, 1978). Edelson et al. (1999) examined auditory P300 activity prior to and three months following auditory integration training (AIT). Three autistic individuals participated in the experimental AIT group and two autistic individuals participated in a placebo group. Prior to AIT, all five individuals had abnormal auditory P300 activity, indicating an auditory processing problem. Three months following AIT, the results showed dramatic improvement in P300 activity for those who received AIT (i.e., a normalization of P300 activity) and found no change in those who received the placebo. We do not know the underlying reason for auditory processing problems in autism; however, autopsy research by Drs. Bauman and Kemper have shown that an area in the limbic system, the hippocampus, is neurologically immature...

The French cinema comprises the art of film and creative movies made within the nation of France or by French filmmakers abroad. France is the birthplace of cinema and was responsible for many of its significant contributions to the art form and the film-making process itself.[3] Several important cinematic movements, including the Nouvelle Vague, began in the country. It is noted for having a particularly strong film industry, due in part to protections afforded by the French government.[3] Apart from its strong and innovative film tradition, France has also been a gathering spot for artists from across Europe and the world. Tan Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA Abstract This textual analysis of social media and its role in music public relations investigates North America’s largest outdoor music festival, Bonnaroo, and explores online coverage of the festival’s public relations tactics. I uncover some of the elements employed in its Internet-based social media and online journalism that facilitate interaction between the publics and Bonnaroo to help increase brand awareness and cope with crisis. Corpus Linguistics and Language Pedagogy

...language pedagogy: The state of the art – and beyond Joybrato Mukherjee Justus Liebig University, Giessen Abstract The present paper provides a selected overview of the state of the art in corpusinformed language pedagogy. Starting off from a general assessment of the impact that the corpus revolution has already had on English language teaching (ELT), the focus of the main part of this paper is on some typical examples of corpus use in three language-pedagogically relevant areas: (1) using corpora for ELT (e.g. producing learner dictionaries); (2) using corpora in the ELT classroom (e.g. in data-driven learning); (3) using learner corpora. With regard to learner corpus research, for example, the paper also sketches out some prospects for future research, e.g. the compilation of local learner corpora. 1 Introduction: the corpus revolution and English language teaching There is general agreement among empirically-oriented linguists that the advent of large, computerised corpora has revolutionised the linguistic description and analysis of the English language. In modern corpus linguistics, not just any group of texts qualifies as a corpus, but it must be "a collection of texts assumed to be representative of a given language, dialect, or other subset of a language" (Francis 1982: 7). Representativeness is a key issue in corpus design because it captures the attempt to compile a database that provides a statistically viable sample of language use in general (or a relevant...
