...The main types of movies Movies are a favorite pastime throughout America. There are many different types of movies, and people prefer different ones. In fact, almost everyone has a certain type of movie they like to watch that will make them happy in some ways. However, there are three main categories of movies that people automatically think are drama, comedy, and action. The first category is drama. Drama films depend mostly on in-depth character development, interaction, and highly emotional themes. In this type of movies, the audience is able to experience what other characters are feeling and even identify with someone. All films genres can include dramatic elements, such as comedies, action films, and horror movies, but typically films considered drama films focus mainly on the drama of the main issue. As a second type of movie that people automatically think of we have comedy. These kind of films are designed to create laughter from the audience. Comedies are light-hearted dramas, crafted to amuse, entertain, and provoke enjoyment. The comedy genre humorously exaggerates the situation, the language, action, and characters.  The last category is action. Action films are a movie genre where action sequences, such as fighting, stunts, car chases or explosions, take precedence over elements like characterization or complex plotting. This type of film is designed for pure audience escapism with the action sequences at the core of the film. To conclude, we realized that...

...National Treasure The action film National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage is known as a “drama filled action movie” (New York Times), but what most people don’t know is that it was also known for its historical and inspirational side. This movie is a triple threat with action, inspiration and history all combined into a fantastic hour and a half film. In an action movie there must be a chase of some kind and/or a hero and a villain. In National Treasure, it has Nicholas Cage as the hero and Sean Bean as the villain. These two character have a common goal of finding the next clue that leads to the treasure. There are multiple times that the hero gets beaten down, but the villain in the end always seems to never get the upper hand. As the movie went on, there were also times when the hero had to blur the lines in between good and evil for the greater good. For instance, when Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) was in the planning process of stealing the Declaration of Independence, he had to face the risk of being caught. During the movie, the audience feels a sense of inspiration to start their own adventure. The world of unknown is evident in this film during the search for the next astonishing clue. With every step the hero has to follow the clues, but also watch his/her back for the villain trying to steal what is not rightfully his/hers. For example, as Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) was entering the tomb underneath Wall St. he was being followed by Ian Howe (Sean Bean). Ian left Ben...

...For years people have been scared by horror movies and they continue going back. Alfred Hitchcock once said, "drama is life with the dull bits left out." Why do people like to watch other people get hurt and die while being scared enough to make them jerk in their seat? Movie goers like horror movies because people in general have dull lives. Males just use it as a opportunity to get close to their partner, while females like to get scared while in the presence of their "man." Every day people simply get up, go to work, and come home for supper before going back to bed. People believe that their lives are boring. That is why horror movies are popular. Movie goers like to be able to see blood, guts, fingers and toes, while having the ability to simply walk away. People in general want to have suspense in their lives but want to be able to turn it off. As for men, they like to be frightened as well as women, but most of all men like the sex appeal of horror movies. Almost every horror movie made in the last 20 years has a young attractive female actor running around mindlessly. If men were not attracted to this, then producers obviously wouldn't make movies this way. Men would also rather take their partner with them to see these kinds of movies. Men know their "female friend" will want to cuddle up! Women on the other hand want to have the fear factor but want their partner to be by their side. Most women movie goers will NOT watch a horror film alone. They want to...

...Movies Introduction to Film English 225 Hannah Judson June 7, 2010 Movies The movie that I consider interesting that I have seen lately is Jerry Maguire, starring Tom Cruise. This paper is going to be about how Jerry Maguire interested me, the moral of the movie, what the producer really was trying to relate to the audience far as an understanding, and the costumes of the cast. Majority, of movies have a goal of teaching or giving the audience some type of understanding or knowledge of something that is new to them from the movie that was produced. In my personally opinion, when I first looked at the cover and tried to analyze the movie Jerry Maguire, I thought it is going to basically about a man playing football. But, when I looked at the movie I noticed that Tom Cruise’s costume was very flashy at the beginning of the movie and then towards the middle and at the end he started to dress down and appeared to be poorer than he was in the beginning. In the beginning he wore nice suits with his hair slicked down and in the middle and the end he wore jeans, a tee shirt, gym shoes, a khaki colored jacket, and his hair was kind of all over his head. What the movie meant to me is that Tom Cruise was trying to get his professionally and personally life together throughout the entire movie, by playing a sports agent. Then he realized that he had to make a choice between being honest and/or dishonest throughout his career. By him making the...

...The social importance of film in the 21st century is extremely evident to be a powerful form of communication. Through sound and images filmmakers make use of technical, symbolic, audio and written codes to convey strong messages. These themes are portrayed in all types of films such as documentaries, commercials and even Hollywood blockbusters. As time moves forward so does the ability to connect, through film, with the social aspects of our age. Every story, every image, every sound has an impact on out society, either visually and/or emotionally. By the use of film we can communicate ideas, morals, ethics, facts, events etc effectively. Ever since the fist filmmakers shocked the world with their innovative art the impact of film on society has only advanced. New technology and contemporary techniques are forever developing and the will to influence, inspire and inform also progress. . This ability to powerfully impact our society is due to the blessing of film and its importance in the 21st century should never be under-measured. It combines primarily, both audio and video and is thus very appealing to the eyes and the ears. With the development of color cinematography, and stereophonic sound, it is certainly one up on other media. Motion pictures may provide the best evidence of what it was like to walk down the streets of Paris in the 1890s, what a Japanese tea ceremony was like in the 1940s, what the World Series in 1950 looked like, or how people in factories did their...

...Movies People say that baseball is America's favorite past time, but I guarantee you know more people who have been to a movie theater than have attended a professional baseball game. Not all movies make it to the silver screen, some go straight to DVD, while others gross hundreds of millions of dollars. People go to the movies for several reasons, perhaps a first date or just hanging out with friends, whatever the reason is, you will most certainly be entertained. Ironically the fantasy of movies has a mystical way of making us feel genuine emotions. Whether it's a comedy, action, or horror movie, for a couple of hours people can forget about their real lives and exist in a world of make believe and fantasy. Over the course of my movie going career, the three categories that make for a movie worth paying to see are comedies, action, and horror films. In recent years, the most popular type of movie in theaters is comedies. A good can cheer up even the grumpiest of grumps. The most noticeable trait of a hit comedy is when you hear people repeating the one-liners for many months later. “Alrighty then” from Ace Ventura Pet Detective, was repeatedly uttered at middle schools across America in the mid nineties. Comedies are also great at cutting through that first date tension, you won't have to worry about making her laugh and you have something to talk about during the awkward silence moments. Other examples of great comedies that performed well in theaters include...

...longer — anywhere from three to six weeks — than larger twists. Because they are so small, they tend not to frizz and age as quickly. This is great news for those who want to leave their natural hair alone for several weeks at a time. Not only do mini twists last longer, they also allow for more versatility in styling. Because they are so small, it is much easier to achieve a range of styles than with larger twists. A lot of the styles can mimic those on loose natural hair. minitwist1 (In 2013) THE NOT SO GREAT: Mini twists can take hours to a day or two to install or take down. This can be a challenge if you have to be somewhere or you just do not have the time or patience. In terms of helping with patience, watching a few movies or television shows can help pass the time. When it comes to needing to be somewhere, some naturals prefer to start their mini twists in the front or along the perimeter of their hair so that they can “fake the finished look” if they haven’t completed the twists in time. THE BAD: Single-strand knots and locking are more likely to occur in mini twists than in larger twists, especially for those with tightly-coiled, kinky strands. In order to prevent locking, try not to wear this style for longer...

...One thing that you can safely say that almost everyone does is watch movies. People do it all the time, but do they do it right? Have you ever watched a movie, but didn’t under stand it? Well, that may be because properly watching a movie is far more difficult than most people think. The first thing you need to do is make sure that you are in a mind set that goes along with the movie you watch. It does not take much to alter one’s mood, and it is very important to keep this in mind when choosing what type of movie to watch. If you are sad, it is best to choose some sort of drama or tear jerker; you wouldn’t want to watch a comedy. If you’re upset or angry at someone, an action movie or thriller might just do the trick. Two other ways people feel when trying to watch movies are tired and hyper, but it is definitely best to be neither. If you are tired you will most likely fall asleep, and being hyper can cause you to not pay attention. To watch a movie you must be in the perfect frame of mind. The second step to properly watching a movie is getting rid of as many distractions as possible. This step is probably the most important because if a distraction is large enough it can ruin an entire movie. The best time to watch a movie is when you are by yourself. No one can ask you questions when they don’t understand what’s going on, make noises to distract you, or tell you what’s going to happen if they have already seen the movie. Nothing is worse than really wanting to see a movie...
