Moving to another country, we may face a culture shock, as civilizations have different backgrounds. In my opinion it’s better to assimilate the customs of the new country, so one can be effectively integrated in the society and explore a new way of living. In the following essay I will explain the reasons why I feel this way. To begin with, it’s important to follow local customs in order to be inserted in the society. One shouldn’t exactly forget about its culture, because it is a fundamental part of oneself, but acting according to the expectations can make people welcome you with open arms, as they won’t feel threatened or uncomfortable with one’s culture. For instance, Germans tend to value more their personal space than Brazilians. When

Hiring A Moving Company Essay

...Hiring a moving company when moving across the country can often be one of the best things that you can do, mostly because the moving company will be able to take most of the work out of your hands. Listed below are three reasons to hire a moving company when moving across the country. To Avoid Having To Unload On Your Own One of the biggest reasons to hire a moving company when moving across the country is to avoid having to unload a moving truck all on your own. This is extremely important because if you are moving to a brand-new city where you don't know anybody or have any family members living there, then you could end up in a situation where you won't really have any help moving everything out of the truck and into your new home or apartment. As a result, you could very easily end up straining yourself and taking a very long time to get your new home in order. However, when you hire a moving company, they will handle the unloading and you won't have to worry about doing it all on your own or having to find someone to help you in an unfamiliar city. To Complete Your Move In The Shortest Amount Of Time...

Moving Headquarters Overseas

...Moving headquarters overseas has been a growing trend since the 1990s as more and more countries become open to the idea of relocation. In our case, we saw examples of big multi-national companies moving headquarters across continents, like Nokia moving from Finland to the United States, IBM from the United States to China and HSBC from London to Hong Kong. This report will examine the reason behind this phenomenon and what are the consequences as a result of that. There are some key reasons that lead to this trend. i) Moving closer to the Asian market As Asia continues to charge ahead in its development, many companies want to fight for a slice of the pie and are moving into Asia to take advantage of the growing demand there. For example, Procter & Gamble (P&G) has this year moved its global headquarters for their beauty and baby-care business, including its biggest brand, Pampers, from Cincinnati to Singapore. They have expressed that the move to Singapore was motivated by a need for P&G brands to be closer to the growing number of consumers in Asia. As we can see from this, multi-national companies see the importance of the Asian market and believe that in order to take advantage of the potential there, need to relocate their headquarters. It is no longer enough to just have operations in Asia, but it is also helpful to have headquarters within the region to facilitate development. ii) Moving away from heavy corporate taxes The next trend is that of...

Globalization and Ge

...prominent developed country, while other countries are still developing. This gives GE the possibility to expand their business by giving the country new products and opportunities to develop their economy. GE takes advantage of the economic uncertainty of foreign countries to move into the country at a lower cost. For example, when “Asia slipped into an economic crisis GE spent $15 billion acquiring companies in just six months” (International Business, textbook p. 37). Companies moving into foreign countries often rework their products to fit the countries culture, but they will also use the new way of thinking among people to save money when developing their products. Cheaper products will be more successful in developing countries. 2. By GE moving some of its headquarters to foreign countries they are trying to achieve a closer relationship with the people and government of the country. In many cultures like China, it is necessary to have great level of cultural sensitivity in order to be successful. This is very difficult for outsiders to obtain, so by having a local office you can gain this by bringing people of that culture into the company. By getting to know the culture and customs of the country GE would be less likely to make marketing mistakes. Making a mistake of any size can be disrespectful to the people of the country and cause them to boycott the company’s products. Another benefit of moving the company’s headquarters to a foreign country is that people are...

Expatriate Managers

...managerial teams in the new foreign subsidiary as expatriates can transfer their knowledge on how the company operates overall. In some MNE’s it is considered necessary for the senior managers to spend some time abroad to build the experience of running the company internationally so they can use that knowledge to fulfil the top corporative posts. The costs of sending expatriates abroad is high, in addition to paying expatriates salary organisations have to pay the cost of relocating the person and his/her family, pay for the house, give living allowances, special family benefits etc. Often organisations pay for the locating a job for the spouse and even pay them salary till they find a job, this is known as ‘trailing spouse’ benefits. The research show that many international assignments had failed. Traditionally a failed assignment is when the expatriate come back home before he/she is scheduled to do so. However a ‘failed’ assignment can also be defined in terms of poor quality performance & not meeting the expectations of their supervisors. Research done by Black & Gregerson (1999) show that 10%-20% of expatriates returned home before the scheduled to do so. 30% of expatriates fail to meet the expectations of their supriviours and 25% soon left their jobs after returning home. Why did so many assignments failed? The three main reseasons for the international assignemnts failer is the expatriates spouse/partner failer to adapt to the new culture/place/way...

"When I looked at the data it looks like there is very little additional advantage, benefit for schools if you look at things nationwide," Luistro said at a Senate hearing on the K to 12 basic education program. Luistro said that proposals to move the opening of classes from June to September will probably just benefit the National Capital Region (NCR). "Obviously we cannot have a different start of the school year recognizing that the country may have different ways of experiencing the weather," he said. "I think the benefit of moving it to September may be confined to maybe NCR and a few other regions, but that may not necessarily translate to additional safety realities for the other regions," he added. Two climate types PAGASA acting deputy administrator for research and development Flaviana Hilario explained that the country has two climate types: Western areas of the country such as the NCR and Central Luzon fall under type 1 climate, which experiences rain from May to September. There are many avenues to consider and to plan. Situations that may arise that must be addressed and worked out for the best of both parties. Trust in a company whether it is organic or borrowed is the foundation stone of the process. Opinions on the Move to Open Classes from June to September

...Chapter 1 The Problem and Its Background Introduction Changes are permanent thing on earth. Are the people is ready enough to accept the changes on the educational system? The current opening of classes here in the Philippines usually starts from June to March but our lawmakers want to amend the opening of classes. The existing school calendar which spans from June to March is often disrupted as destructive typhoons plague the region during the rainy season that’s why our lawmakers decided to move the opening of classes from September through May to avoid numerous class suspensions and serve to protect the students during strong typhoons. The Department of Education said that it is open to the proposal by some sectors, including lawmakers to move the opening of classes but they want to ensure the comfort of the students in school and stresses the need for a comprehensive study. While the Department of Education is open on the proposal, some did not welcome this idea. An initial survey on the matter conducted way back in 2009. On the respondents, 66 percent were against the move while 34 percent were in favor. [1] Also, another ground for rejecting the proposal is the traditions celebrated during summer and being not conducive in learning because of hot weather during March. The delay in suspension of classes is one of the reasons why our lawmakers and other sectors in the community urge to move the classes from June to September. Unexpected...

Qlt1 Task 5

...Task 5 Moving Truck Cost Analysis The Thompsons have lived in Canada all their life but recently Mr. Thompson got a job offer he could not refuse. The new job will require they move to the west coast of the United States. This is going to require they move across the country from New Brunswick, Canada to Seattle, WA. Which is a total of 3200 miles. Although the company Mr. Thompson will be working for will reimburse them for the move, they still have a budget they need to stay under so they can have enough money for hotel stays, stocking the house with food, cleaning supplies etc. when they arrive. They are planning on leaving early and site seeing on the way but still arrive at least two weeks early so they have time to settle in. Arriving early though means there will be a big gap between paychecks so budgeting is very important. They narrowed it down to two companies, Acme Moving which charges $2.00 per mile and Lightening Moving that charges $1500 for the first thousand miles and $2.25 for each mile over 1000. They have to analyze the costs and figure out which one is going to be the best deal. The Equation: Lightening Moving Co. Lightening Moving charges $1500 for the first 1000 miles and then $2.25 for each mile over 1000. Let X = Amount of miles traveled 1500 = the initial cost of the first 1000 miles 3,200 = the total amount of miles traveled $2.25 per mile over 1000 miles therefore; 1500 + 2.25(X-1000) = Cost of moving over 1000 miles 1500 + 2...

Many people have felt this before, including the author of Home at Last, David Mengestu. What people don’t realize, however, is that moving away to a different location is not going to change where your home is. Mengestu finds this out in the essay, through chronological events of his childhood and early adulthood. In his personal essay, Mengestu writes about his journey of moving to the neighborhood of Kensington in Brooklyn, New York, and uncovers his epiphany of the meaning of home to the reader. Mengestu believes that you can recreate home while moving to a new location, while I believe that home is where you believe your family is, and that becomes part of your background....
