Andrew Mitchell's view is that his strategy to transfer production to China has been successful in fulfilling the company's objectives.

The first argument for which I feel is a positive reason why Andrew and his company's move to China is successful is ultimately down to the overall profit being made. In 2005 when he has based in the UK the company had a -50m profit which is obviously a negative figure to have and certainly not one you want to have associated with your business. On the other hand in 2010 when they moved to China the profit rocketed up to 175m, this is a 225m increase in the 5 years time difference. The main reason for the profit going up is down to various reasons. For example, the fixed cost's will be cheaper e.g. rent, lighting and heating as it's abroad and the UK prices are extortionate. The other main reason would be the workers. In a Country like China the workers work for less money, do longer hours and in reality work a lot harder, this can lead to other factors being effected like the increase in labour productivity. Another reason why I I think the transfer to China has been successful is down to the ROCE. In 2005 when in the UK the return on capital employed was -9.24%. A return on capital employed (ROCE) should be as high as possible. A negative ROCE would mean that the firm had made a loss. In the UK, ROCEs are typically between 5% and 15%. This will depend on the sector in which the firm operates. In comparison in 2010 the ROCE was 29.09% (175/602x100) this is once again a huge increase (38.33%( 29.09+9.24) from the previous years which is a clear indication that move to China has been a success. The final reason is that we know China has a “attractive forecast” sales growth of 10% which we know is what Andrew is looking for and supports his marketing strategy of entering new geographical. On the other hand there are some

Hitchcock the Master of Suspense

...pioneered and why they were implemented into Hitchcock’s greatest works in the coming decades. We take our first look at Hitchcock’s famed narrative technique, the MacGuffin. The MacGuffin was a plot device used by Hitchcock to hold the tension of the story without actually having any relevance to the plot itself. It was a gimmick that had the sole purpose of adding suspense to whatever situation the hero or heroine might have been in by motivating the characters to start the story. They do not know what it is but they will do anything to uncover its mystery, thus pushing the action and drama of the narrative forward. The initial use of this technique was in one of his earlier British films of the 1930’s, The 39 Steps. The character Mr. Memory had a set of secret plans for a new type of airplane engine that which he had memorized and stored inside his head. However, this does not come to fruition until the final minutes of the film. The audience does not know what it is, they only know of its existence and that the characters are...

Social Science Fiction, a Sub-Genre of Science Fiction Seen in Television

...When thinking of science fiction television programs, one usually thinks of aliens, space ships, and laser blasters, this tends to shed a more childish light on the genre and most people tend to dismiss it as being no more than mindless entertainment. While there has certainly been a surplus of the campy science fiction shows on the air, some shows have used the science fiction genre to tackle serious social issues as well. This essay will take a look at two shows 54 years apart and will analyze how both use social concerns of the time period and create memorable narratives that speculate about human behavior and interactions. The first show this essay will look at is the generation defining classic The Twilight Zone (1959-1964), and the second show is a modern cult hit from the United Kingdom Utopia (2013-2014). //Through a comparative analysis of the episode “The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” from The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) and “Episode 5” of the British cult hit, Utopia (2013-2014) this essay illustrates how the science fiction genre can be and has been used generation after generation to highlight certain social issues. Whereas The Twilight Zone uses America’s anxieties of communism and consumer culture to cause paranoia in the early sixties, Utopia uses big business, government conspiracies, and overpopulation in a plot that stirs up concern for the environment. Ultimately this essay will illustrate how social issues lay the foundation for a compelling science fiction...

...Hey my name is Sticky Gumbo and you’re listening to 96.7 WJAZ the escape, where you hear smooth contemporary jazz with some classic jazz to make it through your day. To start it off, here is one of the men that started where jazz was born from the bayou, Mr. Louis Armstrong. Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans in a very poor part of town. His parents weren’t very good at taking care of him, his father left after Louis was born and his mom turned to prostitution and left him with is grandmother. He was sent to a home for juvenile delinquents after shooting a gun in the air on New Year’s Eve when he was eleven and that was where he fell in love with music. After he was released from the home he didn’t go into music right away, he sold papers and shoveled coal, then he played music and sang to make a living. His career really started when he was seventeen. He played in dive bars until the 1920s when he left New Orleans and played in St. Louis where he joined Joe Oliver and his band. This is one of my favorite songs by him and I know that it’s a crowd favorite for all. I’ll let Louis Armstrong introduce this song himself, here’s What a Wonderful World. What a Wonderful World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nGKqH26xlg&feature=related That song is a classic and it has been redone by many different artists. This is still my favorite version of this song and I hope you all liked it as well. The way he sings his songs puts chills through my bones and it shows he can not...

Those With Little Hope Narrative

...Charlie Brehob Period 2 05/18/16 Serving as Christ to Those With Little Hope Last Sunday, I went to St. Roch School and a group of former St. Roch students and I began to make sandwiches and organizing various snacks. After the preparation we sorted the food, along with water bottles, into snack bags that would be passed out to the homeless downtown. We then drove downtown in multiple cars and began searching for any poverty stricken or homeless person we saw that appeared to need our assistance. We passed out nearly all of our 40 bags of food. When we felt we had helped a sufficient amount of people in the downtown area, we took our leftover rations to the Wheeler Mission downtown, so that none of our food would go to waste and all would help those who are less fortunate than us. Initially, I was comfortable with making food because I was surrounded by friends and peers. Furthermore, I was back in my old school, so I felt very natural. However, while driving downtown, I began to feel uncomfortable and nervous, because I did not know what to...

The Rise of Far Right in Europe

...POLITICAL SCIENCE The Rise of Far Right in Europe An analysis based on the article “Far right on rise in Europe” published in “THE GUARDIAN” a study by Demos Thinktank. When thinking of the French presidential elections one may even disregard the fact that Mr.Hollande won and pay more attention to the significantly high score of Mrs.Marine Lepen. Indeed, the latter representing the Far Right Movement arrived third with 17.90%, just behind the Right Movement represented by Mr. Sarkozy with 27.18% and the Left Movement represented by the winner Mr. Hollande with 28.63%. This is extremely high when we know that generally in France, the winner party only scores on average 52%. Some people wonder why this extreme conservative party is gaining more and more credit among French citizens. wasn’t the idea of Human Rights born in France? Isn’t France known for its “liberty, equality, fraternity”? What happened to the country of freedom? In my opinion the three main events that led up to this delicate situation are: the recent economical crisis, the role of Media, and the carelessness of racist discourse. Before I begin my analysis, it is important to say that the support for the Far Right Movement is not exclusive to France but also to several European countries such as Austria, Germany or Switzerland as mentioned in the article. However, I will be essentially focusing on France since it is dear to my heart as I was born and raised there. First, the economic crisis...

...concerning events, and there is always room for improvement in the identification, analysis, recommendation, and implementations of a safety-centric environment. #1 There are seven key elements in Mission Valley’s approach to safety that have evolved since Paul O’Neill became the CEO of Alcoa in June 1987. * Safety is a top priority Immediately upon his arrival, Mr. O’Neill announced that his top priority for the company would be safety. It has been shown that Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) is more accepted and more easily enforced when driven from the top of an organization down. * Line managers’ involvement in safety The Mission Valley Works site covers 120 acres and employs 3,850 people, but there are only five employees whose job function is exclusively HS&E. Therefore, it is crucial that line managers spend a significant amount of their time concentrating on HS&E related issues. * Investigating the root causes of injuries Mission Valley’s approach to an incident investigation included assembling a diverse team of operators and supervisors, the development of a list of root causes, implementation of corrective actions, and tracking how the corrective actions benefit the plant. * Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) The Alcoa case study listed several examples of SOP’s that had been introduced or updated including: Powered Industrial Trucks, Lockout/Tagout, Proper Attire, and Personal Protective Equipment. * Joint Safety and...

...Explosion and Thee Group B have bonfires and party at the outskirts of town. THE DUNE THAT NEVER MOVES In 1923 The Ten Commandments a silent movie by Cecil B. DeMille is shot at the southern end of Guadalupe. A gigantic set is created for the film, complete with 20-ton pharaoh statues and a “City of Pharaohs”. After completion of the film the set is bulldozed with sand giving it term “The Dune that never moves”. To big city folk like those whom make movies there, Guadalupe and her surrounding area looks very different from what they are used to, from it’s farmland, to the fact that in the whole town there is not a single traffic light, to it’s cities building’s being constructed in the 19th century. ...Case Study 2: Warren E. Buffett, 1995 This case was prepared by Professor Robert F. Bruner as the basis for classroom discussion rather than to illustrate effective or ineffective handling of an administrative situation. On August 25, 1995, Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, announced that his firm would acquire the 49.6 percent of GEICO Corporation that it did not already own. The $2.3 billion deal would give GEICO shareholders $70.00 per share, up from the $55.75 per share market price before the announcement. Observers were astonished at the 26 percent premium that Berkshire Hathaway would pay, particularly since Buffett proposed to change nothing about GEICO, and there were no apparent synergies in the combination of the two firms. At the announcement, Berkshire Hathaway’s shares closed up 2.4 percent for the day, for a gain in market value of $718 million.1 That day, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index closed up 0.5 percent. The acquisition of GEICO renewed public interest in its architect, Warren Buffett. In many ways he was an anomaly. One of the richest individuals in the world (with an estimated net worth of about $7 billion), he was also respected and even beloved. Though he had accumulated perhaps the best investment record in history (a compound annual increase in wealth of 28 percent from 1965 to 1994),2 Berkshire Hathaway paid him only $100,000 per year to serve as its CEO. Buffett and other insiders controlled 47.9 percent of the company, yet Buffett...
