Book Review: Nice Guys Can Get the Corner Office

...Book Review: Nice Guys Can Get the Corner Office What is this book about? In the book Nice Guy Can Get the Corner Office, the author challenged the adage “Nice guys finish last.” He believed that a guy can be nice and successful at business at the same time. The subtitle would tell us better about what’s in this book: "Eight Strategies for Winning in Business without Being a Jerk." The author defines “nice” as a constructive and consciously chosen approach to relationships that is founded on: * Attempting to optimize outcomes for both others and ourselves * Striving to balance assertiveness with cooperation to achieve a spirit of collaboration * Honoring the value and strength of others and ourselves * Seeking optimal outcomes for everyone involved by emphasizing truthfulness and authenticity * Opening confronting challenges and disagreements and embracing the innovation-promoting benefits of constructive idea conflict The author also defines “success in business” as need are fulfilled—individual’s need as well as the needs of others. The authors surveyed more than 350 nice guys and found out that most of them are “too nice”. And these overly nice guys are always struggling between “eager to please others” (being too nice) and “fulfill their own needs (being successful in business).” This book gives eight strategies to help those overly nice guys balance being nice and being a jerk when achieving success. These eight strategies consists of eight rights...

All About Mba

...What Every MBA Student in the World Needs to Know Sandeep Krishnamurthy http://faculty.washington.edu/sandeep 1 Management ≠ analysis. What you are learning in school is analysis. You are being taught tools and techniques. Analysis is just one of the ingredients in the recipe. You may have the best analysis in the room. However, if your analysis is not heard and taken seriously, it is of no value. Too often, talented people with the best answers sit in the back of the room while hacks run the show. If you enjoy the view from the back, getting an MBA will not change anything. A MBA degree only works if you are willing to transform yourself. Are you? 2 Einstein would have been a terrible manager. There is a huge misconception among students that being smart is the way to be successful. Let me break this to you. It is not about being smart. There are many smart people who are absolutely incompetent managers. Not to mention the fact that many smart people are first-rate jerks. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying you have to be dumb to succeed. What I am saying is that you do not have to be a Mensan to make it to the top. All you need is average intelligence. But, you need other qualities. 3 Bill Clinton would have been an excellent manager. The man had his faults. But, he could communicate like few others. Bad managers are, frequently, terrible communicators. They have good ideas. They simply don’t know how to get them across. You cannot lead, motivate or sell if you cannot...

...Hernandez’s home North Attleboro. The Prosecutors ended up stating that Aaron Hernandez motive was about Mr Lloyd talking to people at some Boston Bar that were not of the liking of the Accused. The defense gave reasons like Hernandez had just signed 40 million extension, so he had no reason to be part of this murder. The accused are trying to also put some doubt by saying that the police has some sloppy investigations done. The legal experts have been saying of late that there is some doubt and what is helping the accused is that the murder weapon pistol has not been located along with no legit witnesses of the shooting coming forward. There is not much of a feel of which side is winning so this outcome could go either way. A doctor on the behalf of the defense, say that two other men were on some serious drugs like PCP and might have committed the crime since it is has been told that PCP can cause violent stages. Unfortunately Hernandez DNA was found on a shell casing in a rental car, but the defense state it came from gum. Natalie describes herself as moderately attractive and she knows that guys notice her, but she hates her body, is stressed by guilt related to sexuality, and has never had a boyfriend. One night in the library, which is where she spends most of her time, Natalie meets Patrick. He is a cute, intelligent, well-to-do boy from a fancy suburb. What had the potential to be a nice relationship transforms into a series of what are transactions in which Natalie has sex with Patrick in disturbing circumstances despite her misgivings. "I'm toast," Tommy muttered to Andy as he caught sight of Mrs. Skeffington talking to his mom. When his folks reached him, his dad didn't waste any time. "I'm very disappointed with you," he said. "Sorry." "Getting thrown out of a church service. Of all the places to misbehave." He went on for a while Tommy nodded and made the proper noises to show how bad he felt. Out of the corner of his eye, He could see Andy dancing through the same routine with his mom and dad. Finally, his (Tommy's*, because it sounds as if his father would turn to Tommy's grandmother) dad turned to his mom and said, "Let's go. I'm starving." Tommy followed his parents to the car and got inside. Behind them, he saw old Mrs. Wilming hobbling slowly along the sidewalk. Mrs. Skeffington cruised past her, not offering a ride. On the church steps, the Lindens were pulling their little kid by the arms as he dragged his feet and screamed his head off, pleading for a Happy Meal. When they reached level ground, Mrs. Linden gave him a swat on the rear to speed him along. Through Tommy's open window, he heard her say, "Just wait till I get you home." "We're trying to raise you the right way," Tommy's mom said as his dad shot out of the parking lot. "We want you to have some decent values. Not...

Mathilde Loisel and Louise Mallard: a Look at Two Protagonists

...On the surface there appear to be many similarities between the character traits of Mathilde Loisel in Guy de Maupassant’s “The Necklace” and Louise Mallard in Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour,” however; there are subtle differences between the two women. Both of these protagonists struggle with their fate, are self-centered, and lack empathy. Their lives are destined to end in their own tragic ways based on their individual character flaws. Both of these stories focus on women who struggle with their lifestyle conditions. Mrs. Loisel cannot bear her middle-class lifestyle, instead desiring “to please, to be envied, to be charming, to be sought after” (Maupassant 60). As well as desiring these intangible things, she also regrets having “no dresses, no jewels, nothing” (Maupassant 60). This self-imposed suffering leads her to years of burdensome debt, further resulting in hard work and loss of her youthful appearance. On the other hand, Mrs. Mallard suffers a heart condition from being trapped in marriage. When she hears the news of her husband’s death she is at last free of her ailment and excitedly contemplating her future. Not only do these ladies have difficulty accepting their lives, they are also self-centered. Therefore, neither Mrs. Loisel nor Mrs. Mallard is capable of appreciating their loving and caring husbands. Mathilde Loisel fails to acknowledge her husband’s thoughtfulness in bringing home an invitation to the Ministerial ball. Instead, she...
