Functional Areas of Business Paper
There are several key areas that must be identified to ensure the success of a business. A successful business has an established plan that oversees the management in many different areas including; the law aspect, human resource, accounting & finance, operations, marketing, strategic planning, research and leadership. An individual or a team of individuals responsible for ensuring that all business needs and goals are being met efficiently oversees each target area. These individuals are referred to as managers. The roles of managers are clear and concise and the expectations are set for the area that the manager is targeting. “Effective leadership and management involves being aware of situational requirements so that abilities can be matched to particular circumstances (Rees & Porter, 2008, p.25).” Managers assume a leadership role to meet the expectations set forth by their company. Leadership is essential for the organization because leaders use their power to influence employees to achieve company goals. Leadership can help resolve conflicts that arise amongst colleagues and motivate employees to successfully meet company goals. As a manager, familiarity with company policies and procedures are fundamental to develop strategic plans to implement that can be distributed to other employees. A successful leader is knowledgeable in all functional areas of business including the law aspect, human resource, accounting & finance, operations, marketing, strategic planning, and research.
Businesses are bound by state, federal, and international regulations and requirements. A manager

Nothing

...2nd Squad Safety Brief * First off, if you are under 21, don't drink, if you're over 21, don't drink and drive. If you live in the barracks, make sure you only drink in your room and don't go outside of your room with alcoholic beverages. If anyone ends up having a party or a small get together and you witness someone underage drink, leave. If you are found taking part of underage drinking or providing alcohol to someone underage you will be punished under UCMJ. * Make sure you stay hydrated, and if you choose to drink, be sure you double the amount of water you drink, so you all come back on Monday for PT. Showing up hung over and unable to perform Monday morning for PT will be unsatisfactory. We will take you to the MP station and have you breathalyzed to see if you are drunk on duty. Men it's not worth it. * Don't beat your spouse and don't let your spouse beat you. If you and your significant other begin to have an argument, walk away. Your career is on the line and your chances coming out a victor after an altercation where MP's are involved, you will be sadly mistaken. Call your first line supervisor immediately and they will help you out. * Guests on post and at the barracks. If you call the front gate and sponsor someone coming on post you will be held accountable of their actions. Remember to abide by the rules for signing in guests at the barracks. Failure to do so will be lost of visitor privileges on post/barracks. * Be careful out there - travel...

Monday Is Memorial Day

...the only people who really understand. Flags will fly at half-mast. Bagpipes will wail. “Taps” will play. Formations will fly with a missing man, and riderless horses will walk. Guns will fire in salute. Some of us will remember brothers lost generations ago. Others among us will remember losses far more recent. Some of us will silently remember. Many of us will talk about them, and wonder why it wasn’t us. Some will say we were just that good. Most will say we were lucky. Others will concede it was simply God bailing us out. Whatever the reason, however, we will remember. We will reflect. We will mourn. Often, when soldiers go about the business of soldiering, the rest of the world goes on and barely notices us. Monday will be no different. As we stand in salute, grills will be fired up. Pools will be splashed into. Beaches will be visited, and beers will be popped open. The people of this country will enjoy their day off, but how many will realize what it is for? How many people will consider what it means? While many will know there is a parade, how many will know why there is a parade? Please understand, I have nothing against bar-be-ques. I have nothing against beaches, pools, or beer. These are all great things. But I think most Americans take them for granted. I don’t know if it was always this way, or if this is the result of the general apathy associated with my generation. I suspect there has always been a difference between us and...

Zara Business Model

...ZARA The Zara boutique-clothing store on Calle Real in the northern Spanish city of La Coruna is buzzing. Customers have made the journey here on a rainy Saturday morning to see what new exciting styles are available this week. The red tank tops and black blazers seem to be a hit, but customers also really like the beige and bright purple ones too. Faces with this problem most fashion companies would normally have to spend months retooling and restocking their range. Not Zara, however. Each store manager is able to spot these changes in trends and then type them into their handheld computer on Saturday in the safe knowledge that they will arrive on Monday or Tuesday the next week. There is a very strong link between store managers and the central design team based at Zara’s head office in La Coruna in northern Spain. Each store is electronically linked back to head office so that they can view and assess sales on a real-time basis. This allows the company to make sure that they can adapt quickly to customer wants and desires. One example of this was a new khaki skirt that the company initially just stocked in Spain to see how it would sell. In the Coruna store it was sold out after only having been on the shelves for a couple of hours. After speaking to Barcelona, it was apparent that sales were brisk there too. It was then decided that the skirt should be tested out elsewhere, so overnight Zara sent out 7,800 skirts to more than 1,300 stores worldwide. The results were clear...

Surviving Plant World’s Hard Times

...In ten years, Plant World had grown from a one-person venture into the largest nursery and landscaping business in its area. Its founder, Myta Ong, combined a lifelong interest in plants with a botany degree to provide a unique customer service. Ong had managed the company’s growth so that even with twenty full-time employees working in six to eight crews, the organization culture was still as open, friendly, and personal as it had been when her only "employees" were friends who would volunteer to help her move a heavy tree. To maintain that atmosphere, Ong involved herself increasingly with people and less with plants as the company grew. With hundreds of customers and scores of jobs at any one time, she could no longer say without hesitation whether she had a dozen arborvitae bushes in stock or when Mrs. Carnack’s estate would need a new load of bark mulch. But she knew when Rose had been up all night with her baby, when Gary was likely to be late because he had driven to see his sick father over the weekend, and how to deal with Ellen when she was depressed because of her boyfriend’s behavior. She kept track of the birthdays of every employee and even those of their children. She was up every morning by five-thirty arranging schedules so that John could get his son out of daycare at four o’clock and Martina could be back in town for her afternoon high school equivalency classes. Paying all this attention to employees may have led Ong to make a single bad business decision that...

The Yellow Wall Paper

...Lost Baggage My Husband and I left for our Honeymoon on 9/1/2010 from Detroit to Toronto (YYZ) on Flight number 6307 and Toronto to Rome (FCO) on flight number 8217. We arrived to Rome to discover our baggage missing and immediately filed a claim with an Alitalia representative. We called Alitalia repeatedly over the next few days to check the status of our claim and were hung up on three times and were repeatedly transferred from party to party with nobody able to assist us. Finally, two days later we were told the luggage had been located however, no guarantee when we would receive it. This concerned us as we were leaving our Hotel in Rome for 3 days to visit friends in Pisa. We did not receive our luggage until our return to Rome on Monday 9/6/10. It was a most unpleasant experience being in a foreign country without having basic necessities like shoes, clothes, credit cards, toiletries and phone cards. This incident absolutely destroyed our Honeymoon in Rome. It resulted in us being unable to walk the cobblestone streets and visit the major attractions as we were with only the shoes we came in. We forfeited our Vatican tour as we without proper and required attire (30 Euro). We expect to be compensated for this horrible experience. We ask that we are reimbursed the full flight cost and/or provided with complimentary flight vouchers of equal value. My Husband and I were and still are not in a financial situation where we could afford to replace the necessities we were...

...up later than usual on Sunday morning. After breakfast I went over to my friend's house and spent times doing homework there. We work till lunch-time. then I went home, had lunch with my parents and took an afternoon nap. Taking an afternoon nap is a pleasure that I can indulge in only on weekends. On weekdays I do not have time for it. The rest of the afternoon I helped my father in the garden. there're a lot of flowers and plants in our garden. We continued until darkness fell. After that I take a bath and help my mother repare the dinner. In the diner, my parents usually say some interesting stories so I really enjoy it. After dinner I watched television until it was time for bed. I often go to bed at 10 p.m to get up early on Monday. I like my weekends. My weekends is often fully filled with relaxing actions. I like playing sports, but I don’t have much time for it in working-days, so I often play sports more on weekends. My favourite sports is badminton. Timee

...Time Management During this three day process of trying to see if I can manage my time well, I found out that I can keep up with what is due only when I keep my mind straight and stay focused and determined. On Monday I had quit a few assignments to get done. I got to my classes and stayed on task. Working hard and staying focused was my goal. Listening to music really helps me stay focused. In my English class it was very hard to get everything done. A lot of notes and reading was assigned. I really do not like reading but that was the assignment. In the afternoon i went to world history and we had a group assignment. Keeping up with all my classes is going to be tough this year. It’s not that I don’t believe in myself, it’s just very over whelming. During my Business Management class I got most of my assignments done but got side tracked. This was a time waister. Tuesday was a very a hard day. I had a lot of work to catch up on. Being side tracked was not an option that day. I put my phone on silent, stayed on track and got what was due done. I didn’t take any restroom breaks, no breaks what so ever. Getting to class on time and even ahead of time . During this class I had to get a power point finished and turned in within the 45 minutes we had. Success was followed after the class. Wednesday was less crowded. I had a little time to on my hands and did have a bunch of time waisters. When I could have been working ahead I...
