Salvador Dalí is known for his surrealist paintings and his innovative techniques which instills an illusional vision upon his spectators. Two of his paintings that have made an huge impact in mass media and pop culture today are called Old Age, Adolescence, and Infancy (The Three Ages) and the Ecumenical Council. These paintings serve as the epitome of Dali’s career that has allowed him to gain such a high recognition as a surrealist painter and an influential artist.

The fine artwork known as Old Age, Adolescence, and Infancy (The Three Ages) was painted by Salvador Dalí using oil on canvas during 1940. The dimensions for this painting measure 19 5/8 by 25 5/8 inches. It seems that Dali uses texture to depict his dreams and subconscious mind. Texture is utilized as an illusionistic form in this painting because of the way the objects and humans form to create spaces. As a surrealist, Dali often used subversive texture in most of his works especially this one. Texture is used to tell a story in this painting while the juxtaposition of the objects, the landscape and the people within the spaces leads the eye to visualize three humanistic faces. It seems that Dali intentionally used subversive texture to allow spectators to engage in his artwork, always making us reconsider our prejudiced world and its ideas.

Dali applies value by creating a contrast between light and dark in his painting. Without value it would be hard to understand the emotional stages of this artwork. The visual connection between the viewer and the image would almost be obstruct. By applying “chiaroscuro,” Dali is able to incorporate value into his two-dimensional piece in order to create an illusional three-dimensional artwork. This method enabled Dali to highlight the most precious moments in his life through visual context. The middle section, the adolescence for example is one of the

Cultural Event Report - the Philadelphia Art Museum

...The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview about my experience attending the Philadelphia Art Museum on March 15, 2013. The museum is Located in Philadelphia, PA and the exhibition that caught my attention was Journeys to New Worlds it explores the artistic exchanges between Spain and Portugal and their colonies in the Americas and Asia during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. (The Philadelphia Museum of Art, p. Philadelphia Art Museum). A journey to New Worlds originates The exhibition is magnificent and two pieces that I enjoyed were Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Bishop Saints, and Our Lady of Pomata, a coquera. It is extremely quite as people stop in different areas to look around at so much art. I personally found some place to sit and absorb as much information as I could. My fiancé came along with me only because it is a long drive from where I live and I do not like driving far by myself. He enjoyed it as much as I did; we both sat there and studied different pieces for quite a while. Although Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Bishop Saints interested me you seem to understand the comparison while looking at it after being there, I feel that this picture focuses on the child because he is the center of this image, and the mother's love and caring that is expressed in her face and in the way that she is holding the kid. Looking for some reference about the painting I found that it is Roberta and Richard Huber’s collection reflects the arts at continuing...

Hawaiian Museum Report

...To say I procrastinated on this project would be an understatement. So there I sit a little over a week before it was due with no clue where to even go. So I decide to take the “if all else fails” approach and check out the Bishop museum. I have lived in Hawaii now for over two years and had never heard of the Bishop museum before this moment. After checking it out this week, I have no clue why someone didn’t tell me to check it my first week here!! So here is my experience at the Bishop museum and my reasoning on why everyone should check it out when they come to Hawaii! The museum is separated into a few different buildings housing different exhibits, some of the exhibits are rotating so there is always something new happening. I decided to check out the Hawaiian building first, after all this visit is for a Hawaiian studies...

Art Museum Database

... Art Museum Database By: For the past couple of years, a local art Museum has been collecting different art pieces from various artists. The Museum then displays the art throughout different galleries across town. The collection has significantly grown and it is now complicated for the museum to keep track of the many different artist and their different art pieces and collections, as well as where the art is located, whether it is stored in different galleries or the Museum itself. It is important for the Museum to develop a database that can keep track of the different art pieces, the artists, the different locations the pieces can be located and a total amount of pieces collected since it continues to grow at a very fast rate. The database will help the Museum substantially as well as the artists who create many various art pieces. Problems and Constraints The Museum continues to grow and it has become difficult for the manager and staff to keep track of the art collection. Not having a database that can tie the artist with his art and the location of it has caused the Museum to lose some of the different art pieces which in return equal financial losses to the Museum. Another problem the Museum continues to have is keeping track of when and where the art is being displayed. Most of the art is displayed for a period of time throughout the different galleries then either stored back in the Museum or, returned to the artist. It is important that the Museum is well...

The MCA has been dedicated to displaying, collecting and interpreting contemporary art since it first opened its doors to the public in November 1991 (MCA, 2014). The beginning of the MCA was due to an Australian artist, John Power, who left his fortune to the University of Sydney when he passed away. The University of Sydney, on Power’s request, used this money to educate and inform Australians about contemporary art. This eventually led to the NSW Government donating the old Maritime Services Board premises to the cause. This location is where the MCA remains today. The following paper will analyse critical elements involved in the MCA’s strategic operations. Beginning with the mission, goals and objectives, followed by an external environmental analysis and an internal capability analysis. The majority...

Crocker Art Museum Report

...During the visit to the Crocker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento, there were live music and form of expressive art dance going on as you enter the entrance in the first floor of Friedman Court. As my classmates and I continued our way up to the third floor, we can upon a room called the Gold Rush Gallery. The Gold Rush Gallery has a lot of painting that was based during and after the California gold rush. While observing the art works, many painting amaze me by its large size of canvas and how the artists capture its subjects. For example, the Great Canyon of the Sierra, Yosemite, 1871 by Thomas Hill, if I have not seen it in real life I wouldn’t have know how big it was. Nevertheless, the one painting that had caught my attention was the...

Mississippi Delta Museum Report

...of our lives and although individuals may not realize it, understanding our backgrounds and our ancestors is also important. The Museum of the Mississippi Delta is the museum I chose to visit and I learned so much. It opened my eyes to multiple things that I had no idea even happened or existed in Greenwood, MS. Walking into the museum I expected to see exhibits about cotton and slaves, but it was much more than that. I noticed information on Native Americans, agriculture, and military. I walked around to different exhibits that were located in many different rooms, these rooms showcased different major events and people that were apart of Greenwood history. The Agriculture room was a major exhibit that stuck out to me because I thought I knew a lot of information in this field but I learned so much more. Agriculture has always been a major factor in MS; it provides us with jobs, land, and farming. Agriculture allows us to survive daily because it provides us with different products, food being one main one. Located in this particular exhibit were pictures that...

I visited the Museum on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. This report is based on what I observed at that time. My observation was based on four main features including appearance, layout, educational worth, and user friendliness of the museum. The scoring system used is based upon my experience at the USA Museum compared to the other museums I have visited. The scale ranges between one (lowest) to five (highest). C. Limitations This observation was made from one initial trip at three o’clock to the museum. I am unaware of any activities that may take place at any other time. I am very familiar with the external appearance of the facility due to traveling past it to and from class. D. Preview Part II of this report entails the findings pertaining to...

Museum:

...Museum: The McNeil Museum of Art (MMA) is a not-for-profit museum founded in the city of Universal, in the western United States. Originally chartered in 1925, under the founding name Fannel County Museum of Fine Arts, the museum went through a name change in 2000 to reflect the museum’s main benefactor, Jonathon A. McNeil. Before the museum went through a name change, however, in 1997 MMA benefited from a $28 million dollar bond election. This election allowed MMA to expand their facilities in a newer building located in the central business district of Universal City. The newer location was made available to MMA through Jonathon A. McNeil.

Upon Jonathon A. McNeil’s death in 2000, the museum received a $25 million gift from his will so long as the museum’s charter and name was revised. The updated charter stated that the MMA’s purpose was, “to provide an inviting setting for the appreciation of art in its historical and cultural contexts for the benefit of this and successive generations of Fannel County citizens and visitors (pg. 579, Kerin).” Visitors can visit the MMA seven days a week, with extended hours on Thursday nights and shorten hours on Sundays. While the permanent collection is free of charge to the public, visitors can pay a fee of $5.00-$7.50 to see the MMA special exhibits. The MMA has over 1500 works of art that are rotated in-and-out of exhibits throughout the year, occasionally loaning the works of art to other museums. Within the MMA collections...

...Running Head Coleman Art Museum 1 Case study, Coleman Art Museum Bellevue University MBA652: Marketing Strategy Dr Doug Davis 11/04/2011 Running Head Coleman Art Museum 2 Case Recap To start off , the museum has shown a loss for the previous three years, so Mercer and Smith were give the monumental task of finding why and turn it in the right direction. The museum has a good location and convenient parking, and even though the new facility was relatively close to its previous location the move may have changed the demographics plus the museum seems to have not changed their marketing approach. The museum is also faced with a hindrance, they can not display all their collections at the same time and they might want to rethink this process based on the demographics of the immediate areas. Giving more time to the certain displays taking in account everything from age to the ethnic background of the populous of the surrounding area. The bottom line in this entire case is that you have to address the important issues and exhibits that are most important to the community. Problem Identification First off that it took three years to identify...

Cleveland Art Museum Analysis

...The Cleveland Art Museum and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame offer two very different experiences to the museum goer. Though they are both types of museums, they have completely different atmospheres and content. My experience cannot offer a true critique to anyone else who might be considering going, because I will have had an infinitely different experience than what anyone else will have. An art critic named John Berger once said, “Every image embodies a way of seeing, our perception or appreciation of an image depends also upon our own way of seeing,” and this is why a critique holds next to no real value from one person to the next. I can share my experience and opinions, but they will be different from anyone else’s, though they will influence...

Art Museum Paper

...Museum Paper Art 101 Starting my visit to the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum I was unsure of the artifact that I would choose to write this paper about. I have been to the Smithsonian museums countless times in my life strolling about taking the exhibits for granted like the many other people raised in the Washington metropolitan area having virtiously unlimited access to them. I was prepared for another mundane visit to the museums, however this visit was different I saw many exhibits that I have studied recently in this class such as the Lascaux caves and other prehistoric art. I found myself engaged as never before as I searched the old halls for what would be subject of this paper an ancient artifact of my very own choosing. I decided on the Cypruss crossroads of civilizations exhibit located on the museums second floor. I was drawn to this exhibit mainly due to the two large stone statues at opposing ends of it’s narrow entrance doors. Upon entry I was amazed at all of the ancient original pieces most of which I can recall learning about in this class. I decided that I would pick a piece and snap a quick picture of myself proudly standing next to it, get the dimensions and backround and be on my way to an A paper in no time. I pulled out my digital camera and began to power it up when I was immediately advised by the museum security guard that I was not authorized to take pictures inside the exhibit due to the delicate nature of the artifacts. I...

The Museum of Fine Art

...The Museum of Fine Art I went to Boston in this spring break and I visited one of the largest museums in the United States, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. The Museum of Fine Art attracting over one million visitors a year. It contains over 450,000 works of art, making it one of the most comprehensive collections in the Americas. It is also the 54th most visited art museum in the world, and the twelfth most-visited in the United States, as of 2010. The Museum was founded in 1870 and opened in 1876, with a large portion of its collection taken from the Boston Athenaeum Art Gallery. There are tons of different exhibits; some temporary and some more permanent. I went to see some of the temporary exhibits- Degas and the Nude and Aphrodite and the Gods of Love. The permanent exhibits include items of Paul Revere, silversmith, which are really cool. Their early American collection represents a wide variety of art and arts, craft and crafts. I tend to love their artifacts collections. Their permanent modern art gallery is cool but for me, is not as strong as some of their other offerings, like their collection of priceless musical instruments from around the world, throughout history. Their permanent pan-Asian art gallery is strong for its location. I'm not a big fan of their restaurant, but their cafe is open, airy, and pleasant. The museum hosts art from all over the world and from all different eras like Asia, Oceania, Greece and Egypt, the Americas, and more...
