Everyone is unique to such a great extent that we each learn from each other, even as we learn differently. For myself being what some people may refer to as a visual learner, with reading strategies, if It can be mentally pictured within my visually memory any information in my long term memory becomes readily accessible.
Having said this, my auditory memory surpasses my visual recall. Ever hear a song and notice a flood bank of memories are immediately brought back just by the hearing of it's subtle tune. That's how my auditory memory works. I'll select specific songs to run in the background to be associated with certain homework or have an e-reader speak the text while I sleep. As sometimes listening to a text will afford me a better understanding

...Running head: VARK LEARNING STYLE VARK Learning Style Family health Promotion August 27, 2011 VARK Analysis Learning styles are different approaches or habits of learning. Learning styles define as the “composite of characteristic cognitive, affective, and physiological factors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how a learner perceives, interacts with, and responds to the learning environment”( Keefe 1979). Stewart and Felicetti (1992) define learning styles as those “educational conditions under which a student is most likely to learn.” Thus, learning styles are not really concerned about what we learn; it’s all about how we learn. Long time ago, education consisted of memorizing lessons, which means reading and writing, followed by more reading and writing. Learners had very few choices to meet their personal educational needs. There are various types of learning style now, but Fleming’s VARK model is the most frequently used learning style among the students. VARK stands for visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic learning. Summary of My Learning Style Identifying my way of learning may assist me to understand that others may approach the same circumstances in a different way from my own. Upon completion of VARK questionnaire, I realized that I have a multimodal (ARK) learning style in combination with a few of all styles. Multimodal learners need to use all of their learning styles and not just one with highest...

...VARK ANALYSIS VARK ANALYSIS BINDU PAUL Grand Canyon University: INSTRUCTOR: Cherryl Llanos 11/20/2011 VARK ANALYSIS There are several methods used to determine learning styles. A learning style is rather a description of process or preferences. One of the most commonly used learning style is Fleming VARK model. VARK stands for visual, auditory, reading, writing, and kinesthetic learners. This model focuses on the best way a student can learn and retain new information. When a student learns, his/her learning style preferences can be able to learn more effectively, store, and recall information being taught. As an author, my learning style was identified to ask modules of auditory, reading, and writing preferences. In the past, reading and writing was mainly the way to learn. According to VARK analysis, people have to incorporate auditory learning in order to effectively and efficiently learn that new things are better. Learning Style: Having an aural, reading, and writing categories as my strong points mean multi model. Aural means information being spoken from the internet, phone, group discussion ,lectures, and talking things through. My strongest point of learning is reading and writing. This means information being relayed as words. I read a lot in student period and write the notes that my teacher was teaching. I concentrate more in writing notes than listening to my teacher. I was more frustrated if I miss one note to write...

...Running head: VARK ANALYSIS VARK Analysis Paper Catherine L. Cook Grand Canyon University: NRS 429v Family Centered Health Promotion Professor Mishalene Fisher RN, MSN, CPN July 1, 2012 In order for students to be successful beyond the classroom, they must retain and use what they have learned. True learning is when one can use the information obtained. People learn in different ways. In this paper, the VARK learning analysis quiz and learning styles will be discussed as well as the advantages and implications of understanding one’s learning style. The acronym VARK stands for visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic. Neil Fleming and Colleen Mills designed a questionnaire for students of all walks of life to help them identify their individual learning style. The different categories identified by creators of the questionnaire are sensory modalities that people use to learn (Fleming & Mills, 2011). The quiz is 16 simple questions that break down one’s learning style into the mentioned four categories. Some may find that they score the same or overlap in several of the categories making them multimodal learners. Visual learners are those who take in and process information that is in a visual format such as maps, graphs, charts and diagrams that take the place of the written word (Fleming & Mills, 2011). It is interesting to note that television, movies, photographs or power-point format are not considered tools for teaching visual learners. “Visual...

...VARK Analysis Ann Prakash Grand Canyon University School of Nursing April 24, 2016 What is learning? Learning is relatively permanent change or modification of behavior that is not part of only growth or maturation. Each human being differs to the way he or she processes information received and formed in conjunction with personal experiences It is linked to the five senses of hearing, seeing, touching, smell and taste. It is also linked to intelligence, personality, information processing, family and social interactions, environmental factors such as sound, light, temperature, emotional factors such as motivation, persistence, positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, higher learning factors such as conceptualization, experiences, transforming information, physical factors such as food, drink. There are different parts of the brain associated with different styles of learning such as, visual learning takes place in occipital learning, auditory earning in temporal cortex, text learning is in the integration of part of the brain called bocce’s and veronicas in dominant hemisphere associated with secondary visual cortex. For kinesthetic learning it is the parietal cortex. The frontal cortex of the brain is involved in executive functioning and planning based on knowledge accumulated in various parts of the brain. There are three principles and four styles of learning. The three principles are classical conditioning...

One, Creating Effective Conference Abstracts and Posters in Biomedicine: 500 tips for Success (Fraser, Fuller and Hutber, 2009) is a compendium of clear advice – a must book to have in your hand as you prepare a conference abstract or a poster. The other, Abstracts and the Writing of Abstracts (Swales and Feak, 2009) contains several research-based exercises on writing abstracts for journal articles in the Arts and Social Sciences. Both books extol the virtues of structured abstracts (i.e., those with standard sub-headings found in several journals published by the BPS) but both contain few examples. Thesis abstracts Swales and Feak also have a short chapter on writing the abstract for the PhD – a rather different kind of abstract. Here two such abstracts are presented for analysis. However, because the book is written mainly for a North American audience, British students might like to check their institution’s regulations in this respect. It is likely, of course, that these will not be very helpful. ...Running head: VARK Analysis VARK Analysis: How Do I Learn Best? Jolanta Nietupska Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429v Date: January 21, 2012 Summary: VARK learning styles theories were designed by Neil Fleming in 1987. These theories describe learning styles, distinct types of a learner’s processing information, and identify the best ways to study. The VARK learning styles theories divide learning components into four parts including: visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic styles. What’s more, VARK learning styles help to identify people’s preferred learning styles so that their work achieves the best outcome. Furthermore, VARK helps people develop study skills which benefit learning and teaching experiences. This paper will discuss VARK analysis learning styles, determine my preferred learning strategies, and changes that I need to make in my study habits in order to become a successful student. First, the VARK learning styles theory is based on the idea that different people learn in different ways. The VARK theory uses four main sensory receivers (acronym VARK): visual, aural, read-write, and kinesthetic in order to best serve the needs of a successful student. Neil Fleming said:” VARK learning styles are based on modalities-channels by which human expression can take place and is composed of a combination of perception and memory” (Fleming, 2006). The VARK analyses believe that visual learners learn best...

V.A.R.K. Analysis

...The V.A.R.K Analysis Veronique T. Worrell Grand Canyon University NRS-290V 07/07/2011 Introduction Learning is a lifelong process. Individuals learn at different paces and from different perspectives. When an individual is not aware of his/ her learning style or strategy the learning process can be daunting. Processing of information is strategic. It is imperative that in the learning process, individuals are well equipped with the appropriate learning preference in order to allow more efficiency and help eliminate exhaustion of needed time for learning. The V.A.R.K analysis tool is ideal in identifying leaning styles and will equip the student with the necessary strategies to gain success in academics. My preferred learning style Throughout college and most of my acquired formal education, I have always yielded great results from learning by imagining or recalling of written information and photographing text in memory. I have also had great success in studying by making notes in review of content information. In my assessment of the V.A.R.K, my score was a combination of all of the learning styles. However, I scored highest on the read/ write learning style than in the other areas. This confirms my current practice of study. According to lpride.net “read/ write learners learn through seeing, they may think in pictures and learn best from items like illustrated books and hand- outs.” (para.1) My Preferred Learning Strategies After reviewing the...

...VARK Analysis Paper In this paper, the VARK Questionnaire will be explored as it relates to individual learning methods. The VARK questionnaire (Fleming, 2001) was chosen for two reasons, scores can be reached quickly and the provision of help sheets assists students to use their knowledge of learning styles. VARK stands for: visual, aura, read/write and kinesthetic. Fleming and Mills (1992) suggested four modalities that seemed to reflect the experiences of the students and teachers. Through the use of the VARK Questionnaire personal learning styles are predicted and suggestions are made as to which work best for each learner. Depending on the person, there may be one method that works particularly well or a mix of all of the methods may meet your individual needs. Multimodal learning indicates the learner prefers more than one style to retain information. The VARK Questionnaire provides a personal profile based on your results and suggestions to help when taking in new information. The personal learning profile report highlights your individual learning preferences and breaks down each category with suggested methods. Based on the personal learning profile received, it indicated the learner was multimodal. This indicates multiple preferences when taking in new information. The three highlighted preferences received were: Visual, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. Visual, meaning learning through the use of different formats designed to convey information. Diagrams, labeled charts...

...Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction English language teaching has become very important because of the global status of English and people all over the world are learning this language. English language programs worldwide have become increasingly aware of the needs for curriculum review due to both demographic and situational changes taking place. As students’ populations, societal views, and institutional factors are constantly changing, English language programs need to be implemented routinely to make the changes necessary to facilitate the desired outcome of the program. Determining the needs of students is seen as a direct way to inform the teachers of the possible goals and objectives necessary to create a teaching and learning environment suited to the needs of the students. According to Nunan, 1989, the effectiveness of a language program will be dictated as much by the attitudes and expectations of the learners by the specifications of the official curriculum. It is important to understand how students’ perceived language needs because this will give the language teachers the idea on what to teach to the learners. The needs of a learner represent the gap between what the learner wants to get out of the learning experience and his or her current state of knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm (Noessel, 2003). Each learner is unique, and brings to the learning situation his or her own different learning style, knowledge set, pool of past experiences...

...The short-term memory/long-term memory distinction If there is a difference between short- and long-term memory stores, there are two possible ways in which these stores may differ: in duration, and in capacity. A duration difference means that items in short-term storage decay from this sort of storage as a function of time. A capacity difference means that there is a limit in how many items short-term storage can hold. If there is only a limit in capacity, a number of items smaller than the capacity limit could remain in short-term storage until they are replaced by other items. Both types of limit are controversial. Therefore, in order to assess the usefulness of the short-term storage concept, duration and capacity limits will be assessed in turn. Short-term memory is used to remember a number looked up in a telephone book. Students who cram for a test retain the information in their short-term memory. Important life moments, such as the birth of a child, are stored in a person's long-term memory. Looking through old photos will likely trigger long-term memories. Bottom of Form Short-term and long-term memory, while closely related, have many differences. Long-term memory is used to store information, memories, skill sets and procedural knowledge that can be readily retrieved when needed, both voluntarily and involuntarily. Short-term memory is designed to retain information for a brief period of time, after which it is then either forgotten or stored permanently...

Learning Styles in America

...Teaching methods also vary. Some instructors lecture, others demonstrate or lead students to self-discovery; some focus on principles and others on applications; some emphasize memory and others understanding. I have learnt that if a mismatch occurs between a student’s learning style and a teachers teaching style then boredom often occurs, sometime accompanied by frustration at not understanding, leading to poor grades, drop out and low self esteem. I feel as a teacher you should try to incorporate a variety of different teaching styles into your lessons to help engage all students and enable them to learn more effectively. Learning styles deal with receiving and processing information within a learning environment. There are many learning style models, the most relevant to this study is the Kolb’s model described by Zywono and Waalen (2002). Kolb’s (1984) Learning Style Inventory describes the method a person learns and deals with ideas and day to day situations. The model describes the Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory, which states that there are at least seven different methods of learning. I have chosen five leaning styles and will be talking about them in greater depth below. I will then decide which learning style best suits myself and devise an action plan, incorporating this style into my day to day studying and learning, thus enabling me to achieve the best results whilst learning. Body/Kinesthetic – relates to physical movement and knowledge / wisdom of the body...

...Vark Analysis Paper Colleen Kayser April 19, 2015 Grand Canyon University: Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429v Renita K. Holmes, DNP, RN Vark is a designed questionnaire which helps individuals to determine which types of learning strategies would be most beneficial to their success. It analyzes an individual’s answers to several questions and computes a score in each strategy area. These strategy areas are as follows: visual strategies, aural strategies, read/write strategies, and kinesthetic strategies. Your preferred strategy guides the way you learn. These also change the way you absorb info represent experiences, the way you remember information, and even the choice of your words. After completing the Vark questionnaire personally it was determined that I learn with a mild visual learning preference. My scores were broken down into a 6 for visual, 2 for aural, 4 for read/write and a 4 for kinesthetic. “The visual learners learn best by seeing” (‘The VARK Questionnaire | VARK’, n.d.). This group prefers to see material being presented in a visual form rather that a written one. The visual learners prefer to use or benefit from the use of “different formats, space, graphs, charts and diagrams, maps and plans” (‘The VARK Questionnaire | VARK’, n.d.). It was in this area that the score obtained was the highest being a six. The aural section defines determines that people prefer to learn through “discussions, stories, guest speakers...

...VARK Analysis Paper Franklin C. Jones, Jr. Grand Canyon University Family-Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V Leslie Jennings March 31, 2013 VARK Analysis Paper The process of learning can be accomplished in many different ways; every individual has their own learning style, which we will explore through. In order for an individual to be a successful learner they must be familiar with their own learning style, whether they have learned this through trial and error or by taking an assessment such as the VARK questionnaire. The VARK questionnaire developed in 1987 and is a tool that people can use to identify their own individual learning style. Consisting of sixteen different questions, based upon different learning scenarios, your answers are evaluated to establish which type of a learner you are. There are four types of learners based on the questionnaire, which are: visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic or someone who scores similarly in two or more areas is defined as multimodal. Based on the VARK, visual learners “want the whole picture” and they “are often swayed by the way something looks” (Fleming & Mills, 1992). Visual learners prefer to look at pictures and graphs instead of listening or writing. Aural learners, according to the VARK, want to hear the content. The written word is not as valuable to an aural learner as content they hear (Fleming & Mills, 1992). VARK read/write learners “believe the meaning are within the words, so any talk is OK but...
