My Career Plan

...2015 Dreaming, My Career Plan I like dreaming. When we were tiny humans and our brains were developing, we were excited about tomorrow. Our parents told us to dream, and that we could be anything we wanted to be. We started school and again our teachers told us to dream, dream big because we could be anything we wanted. In the first grade I dreamed about being a cowboy, then an Indian. As I grew and changed grades and schools, I continued to dream, it became an astronaut, and a policeman, an army man, and yes the president of the United States. Childish dreams seem impossible to become reality. Once in high school our dreams were tested, the SAT, ACT and the ASVAB. Some of our dreams became reality and we moved on, some did not and we moved in a different direction. I am in a different place now, considering I did become that army man and retired over ten years ago. I am back in school to complete a degree that will allow me to enter into and finish a second career, and so I would say my short term goal is to complete this course on my journey to graduate. In the long run, I would like to attain a job working for the US Government as a contract specialist. Location is the biggest concern with a new career. My thoughts on a location is very simple, I own my home in north Alabama and my son is buried in this area, and it is my intention to stay local in order to be able to visit his grave as often as I can. In considering a career with the government...

My Nursing Career and Life Plan

...MY NURSING CAREER AND LIFE PLAN As written by Walter Mosely, “America now stand on a fiscal precipice and right now our money is worth less daily as our children’s potential is dwindling, our medical insurance, Social Security and ability to make choices about when and if we retire are eroding”. So I decided to become a nurse, to have health insurance, paid vacations, 401k pension plans and security of tenure. The need for a career that is not just a JOB, but a career that can make me financially stable (no more paycheck to paycheck), a career which will bring joy to both me and those I help nurture back to health. Even as a small child attending Elementary School, I had this vision of becoming a Nurse and working in as hospital assisting the sick and needy. Not just a nurse trying to make money, but also that nurse who shows caring and understanding for all patients young or old, rich or poor, and of course the one that would see beyond a patients color. Life doesn’t always take you in a single direction, so even though I have worked in numerous industries including the healthcare field, dreams got pushed aside as other interests were pursued. Today I can say that I have taken that first step; that giant leap to achieving that dream. Finally, I have registered and started classes which will lead to me graduating with an Associate of Science degree and ultimately becoming a Registered Nurse after 2 years of study and also being successful in the State Licensure...

Career Plan Activities

...Career Plan Activities Reflection Career Plan Activities Reflection As part of the requirement for the completion of University of Phoenix’s Management class (MGT/521), I had to start my career plan by completing the career interest profiler, competencies, work culture preferences, and the reasoning aptitudes assessments (Phoenix Career Services). The next steps I will take to complete my career plan are to list the skills that I desire and seek training, and keep my knowledge up-to-date in my field. As part of the process of achieving my career goals, I have decided to pay special attention to the taking initiative and leading aspects of my career plan. My personality assessment results indicated that I possess an introvert personality (University of Phoenix, 2013). It can sometimes be difficult to express my thoughts to others but taking these steps will help me feel more comfortable with the interaction with others and with the exposure of my recommendations and ideas. It will also help me take the initiative in certain projects, and ultimately be a better leader, which are important qualities that a manager must possess to efficiently lead a group of employees. Based on the results of the competencies survey (University of Phoenix, 2013), to complete successfully the courses that follow I need to focus on organizing and strategizing the required tasks. This will help me manage my time efficiently and will ensure that I complete assignments correctly and on a...

...travelled in achieving the planned objectives of the career plan. The research I have done in this unit to maintain my progress towards my career plan has supported me throughout which was to become a ‘Business Administrator’. I have carried out vital research and received help from my career advisor which also helped me alot. I also produced a skills Audit for my career plan and spoke about skills that I needed to develop and achieve and activities that would help me expand this skill. To track my progress I set myself achievable targets. As an individual, setting targets is really important when it comes to career plan. The reason why setting target is very significant is because firstly setting goals is a fundamental component to long-term success. Also by setting targets, this is a key to motivation too and helps you stay focused and achieve the targets. Professional Career Action Plan

...Professional Career Action Plan Kara Jenkins HCS/449 January 2, 2015 Instructor: Michael Jones Professional Career Action Plan It is agreed upon by many that the pathway to achieving success involves the establishment of goals. Through this paper I will outline my professional goals and the job I would like to obtain in the health care field. I will also address skills that I have currently acquired and skills that I would like to acquire and skills that I need to change or alter. In closing I will review my plan to achieve these goals, I will identify the organization(s) that will help me achieve these goals, and I will identify how a career action plan outline will benefit my goals. The key to setting career goals begins with having a clear vision of the end state you are trying to achieve. This needs to occur before you can take actions to reach that goal. With that being stated, developing a vision statement for your career path is the first step in reaching your career goals ("Berkeley HR", 2015). My personal vision statement is to become a human resources manager, but not to just become a human resources manager. I want to become a manager with integrity, trust and respect for all persons that I encounter. I also want to be an encourager and one who empowers my staff to the greatest extent possible. Once I have clearly defined my vision statement, I must then give serious consideration to how I plan to make that vision a reality. In setting my goals, I...

Career Development Plan Part 2

...Career Development Plan Part 2 My interest started in nursing when I was nine years old and my mom got in an accident, she broke her right arm and got a cast. I saw nurses and doctors helping my mom heal and it was like a miracle for me. I decided to pursue this career of miracles and care and became a nurse. Life happened and twelve years passed, I looked back and realized that I need a career plan for future. I finished my BSN in 2013 and wanted to become a nurse practitioner but there I was with gaps in my knowledge and work skills. “Given the ever-changing nature of the healthcare industry, career plans should be updated frequently and be adaptable to effectively accommodate unexpected circumstances” (Broscio, 2014, p. 395). In this part two of my career development plan, I will evaluate my gaps and make a plan to fill the gaps in my knowledge, skills and accomplishments that are needed to achieve my goals stated in part one of the career development plan which is to become a nurse practitioner. Identification of the gaps in knowledge, skills and accomplishments According to Broscio (2014) “having a career plan involves taking advantage of learning opportunities and addressing any weaknesses in preparation for one's best next position” (p-395). As mentioned in my career development plan part one, I lack in various aspects of new developments and advancements in the nursing profession. Nursing profession has changed in past twelve years. Reasoning Apptitude Paper

...aptitude portion of my career plan, I was a little surprised at the results. This was not the first time that the results caught my attention but I did see how the system was able to produce the information it did in relation to my working abilities, thinking processes and habits. My profile showed that I could work well in a career field where my success would come from my ability to apply my practical skills. Maybe in a field of work where thinking was a key ability needed to solve practical problems. It showed that I was likely to be attracted to more practical jobs or careers. My results tell me that my individual thinking style is what I had anticipated it to be. I tend to be more successful or interested in work that I can learn by watching and conquer and be proficient after I have learned and comprehended the process. I am a hand-on type of person that stand behind the statement that seeing is believing so in order for me to perform a function to the best of my ability, I need to see it done, maybe a few times. I like supervision and training until I am confident in my ability to accomplish the work. It is sometimes hard for me to accomplish a task based on a theory because to me, a theory is something that is not necessarily proven to work or be effective. I want to know that what work effort I am about to put in is going to be substantial, get the job done and get it done accurately. I think that my thinking style might influence my approach to arguments...
