A coat of arms is a shield or drawing of a shield that bears designs that are symbolic of a person’s life. My coat of arms shows four aspects of my life. In the upper left hand quadrant, a cross and two bible verses. This shows my love for Jesus and God. The two bible verses are from John. The first one is “I give you a new commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also must you love one another. By this, all shall recognize that you are my disciples: if you will have love for one another. John 13: 34-35” This verse means a lot to me because my teacher for church told me he thinks this is the verse we need to live by. Mainly …show more content…
The next bible verse is “For God so loved to world he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. That means that God gave us his son so that we can live forever. In the upper right hand quadrant, music notes and a heart. This shows my love for music. I sing soprano one in the hunt chorus. I really enjoy music mainly because that's how I get rid of stress. I really like singing because it makes me think of my grandpa that passed. I listen to Pop, Country, and Rap. The lower right hand quadrant holds NC State. NC State means a lot to me because i really want to go there. I want to go there for animal science or to become a teacher. I love NC State football. Positive Acts of Deviance

...“normal” thing to do. I was given the assignment of performing two positive acts of deviance. The term deviance means any behavior, belief, or condition that violates significant social norms in the society or group in which it occurs. The first part of my assignment was performing a positive act of deviance with a stranger. So just the other day at work, an elderly couple came into my store possibly in their eighties or so. The man came in pushing his wife in a wheel chair and as I approached them, they asked me if we had heavier coats. And they were in luck! We were having a promotion on all of our winter apparel and picked out a couple I thought his wife might have liked. As I showed both of the coats to her and her husband, they loved them and she wanted to try them on. Her husband helped her to stand out of her wheelchair but struggled to get the jacket on both arms as well as hold his wife up, as her balance wasn’t that good. For a second I stood close by in case they had anymore questions, but as her husband struggled she looked very uncomfortable, and even as if she was tired of going through such a struggle. I then walked over and extended my arm and hand for her to hold onto as her husband put the coat on her. As she wore the coat, still holding onto me, she looked at me with a huge smile and asked me, “well what do you think?” I giggled and said I loved it on her, and they then...

Dialogue Shakesphere

...Underlined the differences between 3.06 and 3.07 “I know why you felt offended by Fortunato” said Luchesi. “You could not begin to understand how he chuckled and made of my family prominence in our quaint town,” replied Montressor. He had this tight lip grin while he snickered, “he insulted the importance of my family throughout the years. History has been made by my family and all carcasses left in the town’s famous crypts shows affirmation of the strength of my family. The coat of arms is influential and Fortunato laughed at it”. Luchesi chortled and harshly replied, “Strength comes from within and your belief of how important your family is comes from within. Arrogantly deceiving a man, then killing him only shows that you are vulnerable and weak. You carry disbelief in yourself and your family. Silence shows strength, that is why I have such little to speak about”, confessed Luchesi. Dialogue of what could have happened after the story Module 3.06 “I know why you felt offended by Fortunato” said Luchesi. “You could not begin to understand how he made fun of my family status,” replied Montressor. “He mocked me and did not believe how important my family has been throughout the years. The Cask of Amontillado

...of carnival season that lends the story its fantastic nature, a nature trumped only by the madness of Montresor's revenge. The Cask of Amontillado: The word cask, a sturdy cylindrical container for storing liquids, and the word casket have the same root. The Amontillado represents two causes of Fortunato's demise: (1) Fortunato is extremely drunk, more than likely drunk on wine. It is probable that his venturing into the catacombs has little to do with his desire to serve Montresor. Fortunato understands that the trip will produce one of two results--free Amontillado or Montresor's humiliation; (2) Fortunato's passion for good wine leaves him susceptible to flattery, flattery which Montresor provides. Montresor: In French, mon tresor means my treasure. The treasure the narrator possesses is the knowledge of the perfect revenge. The Montresor Family Motto, "Nemo me impune lacessit": Fortunato comments on the Montresor family motto and emblem. The phrase means nobody harms me without being punished. The picture above it is an illusion to the Book of Genesis in the Bible: it contains a heal smashing a serpent's head as it sinks its fangs into the heel. It is symbolic of what happens to Fortunato. Fortunato has wounded Montresor's pride (the snake biting the heel). Montresor kills...

Richard the Lion Heart

...1 Richard the Lionheart: battle addict who spent much of his life in France The 12th century English king whose coat of arms adorns the national football side's shirts was not in fact English at all Justin Cartwright Saturday 14 September 2013 04.02 EDT L et me own up right away: I knew very little about Richard the Lionheart when I decided to write a novel about him. I can't now remember what inspired me, but in my head was the phrase "men in green tights". I find that as the time approaches to think about a new novel, ideas begin to form, as though I am consciously and anxiously scenting the air. Sometimes I wish that I could write the same book over and over, which is the essential nature of genre fiction – familiar, comforting and bland. Already I anticipate readers protesting about the liberties I have taken with the historical novel. Richard has become an icon. The Royal Arms of England is his coat of arms, unchanged, and is now more famous as the motif on England football team's shirts than it ever was as the country's coat of arms. In heraldic speak these are three lions passant gardant. (They have also been called leopards.) It is not only the football team that has appropriated his imagined qualities of bravery and ferocity; outside parliament, at the peers' entrance, stands an enormous Victorian statue of Richard on a horse, his sword raised, the image of ferocity but also of magnanimity, which is suggested by a panel on the plinth that pictures Richard pardoning an...

The Motive Behind the Murder

...interpretation fails to explain the character of Montresor and goes against the intricate details of the plot. The short story’s emphasis on the elaborate murder shows Montresor’s sophisticated philosophy of revenge, which is “No one insults me with impunity”. The motive of his vengeance is because of Fortunato’s arrogance and his insulting Montresor, who is indeed equal or even superior to him. Since Fortunato can remember neither the coat of arms nor the motto of Montresor, it is logical to say that Fortunato comes from a less prominent family than Montresor. The conflict between Fortunato and Montresor arises from the sensation of incongruity between their current social standing and their right to prominence by virtue of their origin. Fortunato regards Montresor’s family as less prominent than his family because Montresor is not an active participant in the life of local aristocracy. When Fortunato noted how extensive the vaults are, Montresor tells him that he came from a great and enormous family. However, Fortunato cannot remember Montresor’s coat of arms and his family motto. At that time, the display of a family’s insignia is a significant part in the life of a socially prominent aristocrat. Since Fortunato, who is a wealthy and authoritative aristocrat, could not recognize Montresor’s insignia, it is reasonable to say that Montresor does not play an active role among the local aristocracy. Although Montresor could not recognize the secret gesture of the Order of Mason played...

Critical Essay: Elements of Literature in Poe’s “Cask of Amontillado"

...Literature in Poe’s “Cask of Amontillado” Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” Is a well written shorty story filled with many significant literary elements. Firstly we will write about the plot, the overall summary of the story, and the main themes, the central ideas of this tale. The plot of "The Cask of Amontillado" is a great account of vengeance. The assassin promises “revenge” upon Fortunato for an “insult.” The main theme revolves around the assassin plans to pursue vengeance in support of his family motto: "Nemo me impune lacessit. This means “no one cuts (attacks) me with impunity.” On the coat of arms of his family, which bears this motto, looks "a huge human foot d'or, in a field of azure; the foot crushes a serpent rampant whose fangs are embedded in the heel.” Thus reflects the theme of vengeance because the assassin’s plan of revenge on Fortunato for an insult. Secondly we have characterization, the personalities of the characters of the characters produced. The true focus lies upon the assassin, the wicked Montresor. Feather Girls - Analysis and Interpretation

...sensation of unknowing. I believe the text has a very deep meaning to it, which I will try to find. In the short story we meet a man called Bill. We can see from the text, that Bill is old "A collection of regulars cluttered the bar, all grey haired men similar age to him". Bill has a wife, who he does not see very often, as she has "flown off" by herself, as their children were grown. In the village, where the story unfolds it is common to give your wife a feather coat from feather girls, but Bill has fallen in love with a feather girl. The feather girl's name is unknown, but Bill and her have been seeing each other for a long time "All these years of going to meet her and yet still, every time, he felt like a lad. They have been doing the same thing over and over again, meeting each other at a local pub called the Hare and Anchor, eating vinegar crisps with salt "packet of salt and vinegar crisps. Here at the pub we are introduced to the landlady of the pub, Mary. Mary is the most interesting character in my opinion, because her curiosity about the couple is intriguing. Mary is described as stingy "Mary was stingy with the coal, still too early in the year for a fire whatever the chill in the air said". Mary is living in the past, and never throws anything away "Collections of one kind or another littered the pub, whisky boxes, empty wine bottles, framed pictures of 1930s film stars who would never have visited a place like this. There were three dart boards on one wall...

Everyone shut up and all of their attentions are on Theo. “Guys and ladies, hmm,” he fix his bow tie as he clean his throat, “After this we’ll be going to our resort and continue this to there,” he announced as he held my hands. We walked going to the parked cars so I pull Carly harshly from the ground. “Carly?” I raise my eyebrows and look intensely in her eyes. “I don’t know, he didn’t tell me this, trust me he’ll do well,” she whispered. Huh! Why does Theo like surprises? He holds my hand tight as if he’ll never let go of it so is Carly’s hand. “After you ladies,” Theo pleased as he open the door. He’s a gentleman. I fake a smile to show I’m not nervous but ugh! “Thanks Thee-…,” Carly said in a sweet and seductive voice. “Come here!” I interrupted pulling her hands. Cattle: A Fictional Narrative

...The cattle broke through the steep snowbanks, scattering ice crystals into the air. Lauren forced her feet to move. With each choppy step, snow fell over the top piping on her boots and pancaked around her socks. From within the storm the white horse emerged. Its rider leaned low catching her wrists in a steel grip, lifting her sideways into his saddle until she perched at an awkward angle. A voice tough as sandpaper carried from under his kerchief. “Hold on.” Lauren dug her gloved fingers into his coat, curling her knuckles tight. She should have felt relieved; instead, uncontrollable shivers raced through her body. His arm tightened around her. Did he feel her shaking? Nothing made sense. She wanted her warm apartment. She wanted to forget about Zach, his painting, and his crazy grandmother....

Beckett's Three Dialogues

...Beckett’s Three Dialogues the key to his oeuvre In 1949, Samuel Beckett wrote a series of conversations between himself and a friend, George Duthuit. In these conversations, named Three Dialogues, Beckett and Duthuit discuss the works of three contemporary artists, Pierre Tal Coat, Andre Masson, and Bram van Velde. Three Dialogues was published in the second Transition, an experimental literary journal, and was written by Beckett and edited by George Duthuit. The history of the Three Dialogues is very important because prior to 1965, Three Dialogues was only ever published in fragments, aside from the original publication. These fragments were often placed out of context and looked as though they had been written in support of artist Bram van Velde. This lack of full publication lead to the piece being under examined and sometimes not fully understood. Over the years many critics have suggested that the Three Dialogues offers a special access to Beckett’s work, that they act as a key to his oeuvre. Some critics view the dialogues as the end of Beckett’s aesthetic development, some view it as a blue print for his following works, while others see it as a credo or manifesto like piece. Overall, weather you view it as the key, or merely another work, Three Dialogues definitely hints at, and sets up the future for Beckett’s collection of works. Three Dialogues foreshadows future structures, makes a template for character duos and dialogue, and most importantly sets up the overriding...

From Tribes to Literature

...Marek Hullinger Mike Fiscel English W132 26 September 2013 From Tribes to Literature The word Goth derives from a German tribe referred to as the Goths. The term Gothic was later used during medieval times for the construction of buildings with pointed arches and vaults (Lad). In my essay, I chose to discuss two pieces of Gothic fiction. The first piece of Gothic fiction I decided to discuss is, “The Cask of Amontillado.” It was published in 1846 by the famous short-story writer and poet, Edgar Allan Poe. The second piece of Gothic fiction I chose to discuss is, “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” It was published in 1966 by Joyce Carol Oates. In Gothic literature there any many characteristics to its writing and famous short-stories such as “The Cask of Amontillado” and “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” contain many of those Gothic fiction characteristics. Summary “The Cask of Amontillado” is a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe. Montresor is the main character of the story and also acts as the narrator. The story begins by him vowing his vengeance towards Fortunato for insulting him. Montresor hides his animosity towards Fortunato so he does not expect anything. He maintains a deceiving presence towards Fortunato and plots to exploit Fortunato’s weakness for luxurious wines. Carnival season came upon the city and Montresor finds Fortunato at the carnival. He invites him to try some of his sherry at his home. Montresor doubts Fortunato’s skill with...
