Personal Narrative: One Of My Educational Goals

...One of my educational goals is to receive my masters in sustainable agriculture or ecology. I would also like to receive my teaching credentials. Once I graduate I want to work on research projects in my field; specifically, conservation projects. I also would like to teach botany, plant science, and pedology, soil science, to high school and college students. I plan on sustaining my 3.475 GPA so that I can transfer to either UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, Humboldt, or Cal Poly. Because I only earn $15,000 annually, I need supplemental help to pay for the expenses of college. I plan on saving any scholarship money I earn at Diablo Valley College to pay for the tuition I will soon owe at the four-year institution I transfer to. I will also use the...

...responsibility. I have set out specific goals that will have a direct impact on my education, career, and family life. My educational goal is to obtain my bachelor’s degree in 2016. In order to meet this goal, I must have a good attendance record and receive good grades. Not having a bachelor’s degree automatically disqualifies me from furthering my career goals. Fulfilling my educational goals will hopefully provide opportunities in the near future by allowing me to promote from within the company I currently work for. I’m hoping that education combined with my work experience will give me and edge in the work place. Two key factors that will contribute to my success is the ability to balance my work and family life along with my school obligations. Being a mother of two, having a full time job, and school needs will create obstacles along the way but I am hopeful in making the best of what the near future has in store. I believe that by attending the University of Phoenix educational program instead of the traditional school route, I will be able to better manage my educational and family needs in the next couple of years. There are some habits that I plan to use as tools for my educational success. One of the greatest challenges I hope to improve on is my time management skills. This tool is critical in being successfully productive in all aspects of my life. Including my job, educational, and parenting obligations. I currently use my Outlook Calendar to...

Personal Goal One of my personal goals is to slow down the process of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in my health. I have a very strong family history and background of DM. Diabetes is a disease in which a person has a high blood sugar. Diabetes is due to pancreas not producing enough insulin or the body does not respond properly to the insulin produced. Controlling the progression of diabetes in my health will prolong my life expectancy. Prevention involves modification in diet, physical exercise, and avoiding the use of tobacco or smoking. A yearly physical examination and regular monitoring of blood sugar as well as laboratory work for diagnosis of diabetes are routinely done by my primary doctor. All these measures aid me in regulating my blood sugar and achieving my goal to delay the progression of diabetes in my system and prolonging my lifespan. My only challenge that I face for not reaching my goal is when my motivation fades and declines because of changes in my attitudes...

...Strategies to Achieve Educational Goals Shirley Lemacks HCS/301 October 3, 2011 Karen Benjamin Strategies to Achieve Educational Goals Setting goals can make life an interesting journey; however, taking the first step toward a goal may prove to be very difficult. Educational goals, along with any goal set must be specific. Decide what the goal is to be and be sure that it is understood what exactly it consists of. Determine what they will do after the goal is accomplished as it could take them into a different chapter in their lives. Another importance is to make the goal realistic and achievable along with measureable and timed. Failure comes when a goal is unrealistic and impossible to achieve. Give it a time line obtainable in the near future, not 20 years from now. As an older adult the wish to become a cardiac surgeon this year would be an example of an unrealistic goal. Once a goal is set, prepare for obstacles and hurdles to cross over. Decide how long it will take to accomplish this goal. After this goal is achieved, repayment would be spread out over time. Time is a valuable asset and commitment is a must. Construct a chart to keep up with academic progress and obtain a superior support system by involving family and friends. According to a study by Templeton research, “Once a goal is chosen, the mind has many processes to promote its pursuit” (Masicampo, 2011, p. 672). Educational and Personal Goals After working as a nursing assistant for many years in...

Personal Responsibility for Educational Success

...Personal Responsibility for Educational Success GEN 200 January 26, 2014 Dawn Baker-Ingram Personal Responsibility for Educational Success Since we were kids, our family and society teach us how to be behave in a responsible manner. They teach us values in order to feel, think and act with respect for ourselves and others. The objective of this learning is to generate independent and productive individuals that are responsible for their actions and that they work every day to improve, contribute and succeed in all aspects of their lives (family, work, education and community). For me, personal responsibility is the accountability for all activities and decisions we made every day, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and how it impact those around you. Ruyter (2002) states that personal responsibility is to be responsible to themselves and to the necessities and safety of the society. In the present time, studies reveal that people tend to refuse take responsibility for their actions and blame others for their mistakes (Doherty, 1998). This is why is very important that families and schools encourage children, adolescents and young adults to practice personal responsibility in every aspect of their life (Mergler, 2007). Every member of the society has a responsibility with the community, with family, with school and for every action they perform. Each area involves a different set of accountabilities and duties...
