My Fellow American

My fellow American’s, as we move on in life, our generation must begin to lay the seeds for the generations of the future. We grew up, not knowing about the dangers of our actions, not knowing the long term effects. As time passes we now see those effects, not only here on American soil, but globally as well. Our country is at war, on foreign soil. Our country is at war with the effects of Global Warming. All we can do is now join our power together and end these conflicts. The Bush administration has thrust us into a conflict in the Middle East based on false information. Our country is perceived as tyrants, as people obsessed with take over and a thirst for oil. The United States was once known as the land of opportunity and yet with every passing day we dig ourselves deeper and deeper into conflict, into debt. We need to bring our brave men and women home, end this war and repair our diplomatic relationships. Our unemployment rate has climbed since the events of 9/11. With more Americans without jobs and a recovering economy it leaves the financial state of many in question. We need to create more jobs, and keep more jobs here in the United States. Be less afraid of saving a dollar and protect our own. The current administration is worried about fighting a never ending war than to look it’s own people in the eye and saying, we are here for you. Our largest threat truly is ourselves. The environment is going into shambles, We have over used our resources and now we are beginning to pay for it. The temperatures across the grid are rising and the polar ice caps are melting. The effects of global warming become more and more evident. We need to reduce our fuel consumption and our need for oil. We need to stop waste and use more earth friendly materials. If we are not able to slow this process down, there may not be a world for our children’s children.

...Best Line: "My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country." Inaugural Address of President John F. Kennedy Washington, D.C. January 20, 1961 Vice President Johnson, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Chief Justice, President Eisenhower, Vice President Nixon, President Truman, Reverend Clergy, fellow citizens:      We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom--symbolizing an end as well as a beginning--signifying renewal as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forbears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.      The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.      We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans--born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home...

Mine

...In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than in mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe. Now the trumpet summons us again — not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are — but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, "rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation" — a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort? In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility — I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it — and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you...

...To my fellow citizens: I hereby stand before you to take the presidential oath; to be this nation’s leader in time of distress of our people, and time of unity. I am grateful for the citizen’s faith bestowed in me with the challenge and responsibility of reforming this great nation into a higher preeminence level. Italian Americans

...Italian Americans I loved my native Italy. I loved everything about the ties and the bonds we had with our families. We enjoyed each other and worked to keep the family as one. All we had was each other because as southern Italians, we had little resources and were disrespected by the northern Italians. There was a separation of classes and the southern regions were considered the less fortunate, and we suffered within our own country. The Italian government was predominately made up of northern Italians which made life difficult for the southerners. Our taxes on northern goods were hiked up and our property taxes were very high (Mintz 2007). Time had passed and my father decided that we had to leave Italy and re-locate ourselves in a new country. The state of southern Italy was the reason we had to leave. The poverty, the disasters, the bad conditions of living was no longer acceptable by my parents and my father’s decision was to move to American where we could start a better life. Starting a new life I can agree with, but a better life, I beg to differ. Coming to this new land called America was a shock to my system as I had never expected. To begin, my family and all the other families that came across the ocean were not welcomed with open arms. We were piled through like animals, being tested for diseases and being called strange names. The American people could not pronounce our family name correctly and suddenly our names were pronounced in an American manner...

One challenge the book poses for us, then, is that it doesn’t cover a lot of the interesting and important stuff that happened in Franklin life, like the American Revolution or the time he spent working as a diplomat in Paris. Through his work as a writer, printer, statesman and inventor he forever established himself as one of America’s greatest figures. We see Benjamin Franklin’s influence during his lifetime, in the majority of major developments in U.S. History. His hard work and dedication to bettering himself and the lives of fellow American’s actually paved the way for Colonial America to separate itself from Great Britain and establish it’s self as a major world power. “A Man story is not told by list of his grand accomplishments, but rather by his smaller daily goods.” We see how his influence, which derived from his dilegence and dedication, helped shape the course of U.S. history. Benjamin Franklin was an American pioneer. It is amazing the vast amount of contributions he has made to U.S. history and American life. Joe Biden Self Speech

...Speech Joe Biden: “Hello, my fellow Americans, it has been my pleasure serving our country as Vice President for the last four years. I appreciate that you have given me the opportunity to serve under President Barack Obama. Tonight, I want to talk to you about some of the accomplishments we have achieved over the past four years. We have stabilized the economy, reformed healthcare, and strengthened our foreign policy. President Obama and I will continue to lead our country into a more prosperous future if we are re-elected this upcoming November. I have helped President Obama in making decisions to improve our economy. We created jobs for our citizens here in our nation. During the recession, our auto industry created thousands of manufacturing jobs. By removing trade barriers we will increase auto exports by 2016. It will open up new markets and opportunities to trade freely and fairly for the benefit of all. Also the President and I will continue to provide lower healthcare costs for families through the Affordable Healthcare Act. This benefits Americans by providing affordable health care for every citizen. We’ve managed to accomplish this historic feat by covering every legal resident of America who is not already covered under Medicare or an employer-provided health care plan. Now, 19 million Americans have become eligible to purchase coverage – every American has the opportunity to acquire affordable healthcare. Thus, the President and I are hopeful for the...

Leadership Presidential

...of consoled Americans and roused them to serve their nation. "And so, my fellow Americans—ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world—ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man," Kennedy said in his inaugural address. Astonished by his balance, moved by his expressiveness, Americans gladly grasped the energy and vision of their young president and new leader. USA is one of the most developed countries, and as president, John F Kennedy led Americans as a true leader with power. His education and experience in economics and later in political philosophy helped established a vision, which helped drive him to the White House. Kennedy preferred an organizational structure of a wheel and he was more than ready and willing to make drastic decisions. He made changes and did things differently; which is what many remember him for today. His assassination on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, denoted a horrific event. However horrific or unfortunate the event, he left behind hope, a vision and became an American icon. Leaders like JFK are rare, or many times overlooked. It took him strength, passion and dedication to affect the lives and well-being of others and as president; he struggled, often unsuccessful to implement his vision. Chapter 2: Leadership Practices Practices by JFK JFK was a social leader who was interested in needs of the American people and was...

However, black soldiers were not entirely equal to their fellow white counterparts, since they were paid less minimum wage. Gooding then wrote a letter to address this payment issue, in hopes that he and his fellow freed black soldiers may get equal pay. This particular source details a specific “right” given to African American’s after the Emancipation Proclamation was proposed in 1863. While African Americans were given the right to serve the American army they were paid less that the average white soldier. This demonstrates the ongoing prejudice and unequal ideologies towards the African society in America after the Emancipation Proclamation was...
