...I am writing to make you aware of my interest in interning at Rogers Memorial Hospital, a place that has changed my life on more than one occasion. It will always have a special place my heart. I was a patient in the OCD Child and Adolescent Center in 2010 and again in 2015. I was moved by the compassion and understanding everyone had. That is the kind of environment I want to be a part of. I was diagnosed with severe Tourette Syndrome and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when I was eight. As the years went on, it continued to get worse. I couldn’t eat, bathe,do my schooling, or even leave the house. I was trapped. In 2009 I went to The Center for the Study and Treatment of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. I learned about Cognitive...

...I knew at a young age, I wanted to work in a medical field. During high school, I saw an opportunity at a program, Jacob Riis, to work at a hospital so I grabbed it. I was assigned to Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility as a summer intern and it was an experience that I will cherish. At this internship, it was more than taking care of the patients; it was about learning from the patient. Every single patient has a story. Many patients truly undergo a total transformation and have to face ordeals in their lives with or without even knowing it. I was working with senior residents who had Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Every day I would go to the hospital and the patients wouldn’t remember me or my name at all. I had to...

...Prologue I leaned over the toilet for the fourth time this morning spilling whatever was left in my stomach. I dry heaved for the next five minutes trying to rid whatever was giving me this ill feeling. Once I finished I wiped the sweat off my forehead and laid back against my cold tub. It felt good against my warm skin. I removed my sweat drenched shirt and just laid against the tile floor. I have never experience such pain and nausea in my life. I didn’t want to think about the many possibilities that could be wrong with me. "Ki you alright?" asked my eight year old brother behind my bathroom door. "Yes boo just go get me a bottle of water." I could hear him scurrying off down the stairs to the kitchen. I tried my best to stand up but I just felt too weak. All of a sudden my body grew very tired and I couldn’t get my body to move. I heard my door open and a scream. "Mom, Dad hurry!" yelled my brother Jasone. I didn’t understand why he was screaming until I followed his horrified eyes down to my floor and there was blood everywhere. I slowly reached up to touch my nose and I felt the blood all over my hands and I knew something was definitely wrong. My brother rushed over to me and held my head in his lap as he cried. I tried to reach up and touch him but it all hurt too much. "Lord please I’m not ready to die." I said to myself. "Mom!!" my brother cried out again. "Jasone what is you doing in your sister room and screaming on-" she couldn’t continue her sentence as......

...Oak Hill Regional Hospital of Spring Hill, Florida. On the 10th of October 2015 I started my first day of volunteering at the hospital. I worked with several elderly patients. Some on more personal level than others. I enjoyed participating, interacting and organizing in activities. My goals are to provide inspiration for those who want the same path as I do, provide healing for those in need of it and as well discover my own talents that I was unaware of. I always had an active role in helping others and making sure of their well-being. In Oak Hill Hospital I was a patient floor volunteer, it was a great experience especially due to the career I’m striving for. Although the funds that weigh me down within my career, I attend many events,...

...Part 1 Quality Data, a) 75% of hospital patients would recommend the hospital, 67% Maryland average, and 71% national average. b) The rate of readmission for Pneumonia patients is not available for the hospital or the national rate due to data suppressed for one or more quarters by CMS. c) 9.4% of patients at P.R.M.C had a follow-up mammogram, within 45 days, compared to the Maryland average of 9.5% and national average of 8.8%. Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland is above the Maryland and National averages when it comes to recommending the hospital to other people. This hospital rated at average of above average on all questions pertaining to the patients stay, such as level of noise, cleanliness, and information received. The hospital rates all reflect a high level of personal care and attention. The hospital should continue to be heavily patient focused. The rate of follow up mammograms indicates a low-level of cancer missed and a low rate of unnecessary testing. There is no data for readmission with Pneumonia because the “Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are not reporting five admission measures and one complication measure due to an issue with categorization of hospitals as better, worse and no different than the national average.” (www.ahanews.com July 9,2013). Since Peninsula rates so highly on patient satisfaction with staff interactions it is important for the hospital to maintain satisfied employees and high morale within their......

...The Healing Hospital Jennifer K. Moore RN Grand Canyon University: HLT-310 V August 2, 2015 “O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me” Holy Bible Psalm 30:2 When I first heard the term “healing hospital,” I have to admit, I was confused. Aren’t all hospitals for healing? But as I read through our text and the articles, I realized there is a distinction between the concept of a healing hospital, and the traditional hospital. While it is true that both are places where the sick go to become well, but the healing hospital goes beyond medicine to provide a rich and nurturing atmosphere for healing to take place, with nurses committed to a culture of care and healing. I realized that I happen to work at one of each type of hospital. To understand the concept of a healing hospital, and why it is important, I will first discuss the traditional hospital environment. One of the hospitals I work in is a county run facility, low on budget, long on patients. The nurses, physicians and staff are wonderful and care for their patients as much as any. However, the hospital is old and noisy. The nursing stations are overflowing with nurses, staff, students, physicians, residents and families. People have to shout to be heard over the din, there are loud intercoms in every patient room, which are not private. The rooms are stuffed with the two patients, and their families. Medical......

...Paper Maria January 27, 2014 HCS/430 The article that I have read and did my research for the article case law search is about a hospital in New York will have to pay $2.3 million dollars for overbilling the Medicaid program. Two Westchester County Hospital had overbilled the Medicaid program of $70 million dollars by improperly approving home care for Medicaid patients. The Attorney Generals Medicaid Fraud control Unit found out that the two hospitals were billing Medicaid beyond the cost of the drugs and made more than over a million dollars in profit. Both or the hospitals never admitted or denied the accusation. They decided to pay twice the fine that was against them. About 145 New York providers which includes the hospitals, physicians, group practices and individual practice have paid back an estimating amount of $19.9 million dollars back to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. Some health care leaders have brought up an important message regarding mistake with billing should be considered a fraud or not. In the article this is how t "A label of fraud is really not accurate and can discredit the institution in the community," Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association President and CEO Kevin Dahill told the Journal News. "Hospitals participate in these audits and agree to the findings. If they make mistakes, they correct them. That's not fraud," he said (Caramenico, Alicia; 2012, 4). In my opinion I don’t think that a mistake in billing should be considered a......

...Phoenix Children’s Hospital is one of the largest hospitals that I have been to for kids and one of the largest in the country. This hospital is also very colorful and unique in shape and feels very welcoming compared to other hospitals that I have been to. The building is also accompanied by a very large parking garage for patients and visitors to park and there is also beautiful shrubs, plants and rocks that are all part of the context of the building. When first walking in the entrance to the hospital there is huge walk-in doors and immediately after first walking in there is vaulted ceilings and bold and bright colors on the walls that stand out. The interior design is absolutely breath taking and the furniture throughout is fun and colorful. The form of the hospital is a unique shape and uses up the space very well. The line in the building was very interesting to me because the lines are what make the form of the building. They mostly go horizontal but there is also some vertical lines thrown in to add texture and balance the building out with all of the intricate detail. The repetition in the hospital created a type of unity feeling for me with the repeated colors, shapes and furniture through the whole building. I really appreciated the way that the hospital was organized with different sections of the hospital representing different specialties like dermatology and pediatric care. Phoenix Children’s Hospital does an amazing job with stimulating the senses and I......

...terrific night's plans; my sister and her boyfriend just happened to be aboard that Ford Focus that evening. “Ring, Ring, Ring.” I picked up to hear the voice of my ex- boyfriend, whom I had not spoken to in quite some time, and I instantly heard the panic in his voice. His cracky voice told me that my sister and Brandon had been in a severe car accident, and Brandon was okay, but Kara was being taken to McDonough District Hospital in Macomb by ambulance. “No, not my best-friend, or my big sister!” This news struck me with emptiness. I couldn't bare the thought of my sister being hurt, or not there at all anymore. Jack tried to keep me calm, and told me to not drive, and to stay put unless I found somebody to take me to her. I knew I had to get to that hospital , so I had my friends drive me. I tried getting hold of my parents, but I failed because they were in Florida, and were out for the night. It was a 30- minute drive, that felt like days. I couldn't keep from getting gruesome pictures in my head, and I couldn't stop thinking the worst had happened. As we were driving to meet Kara at the small town hospital, cop cars were speeding by, with their flashing lights. One of them just happened to be the father of my sister's boyfriend, and he was exceeding the speed limit. We reached the hospital after 30 minutes of driving. When I arrived at the hospital I saw Brandon standing in a swarm of eager cops in front of the entrance to the hospital accompanied by three......

...name UNV303 December 20, 2013 teachers name Professional Experience Paper Introduction Today I will be conducting an interview in the emergency department of a hospital. Emergency departments are different but most are the same. The one where I live operates 24 hours a day. The thing I find the best about them is they take any patient no matter race or problem or money. They can see someone with a toothache to a gunshot wound. The doctors are usually working long hours and they bounce from hospital to hospital. Patients are treated due to the severity of their illness. I found out that my local department is equipped with state of the art technology and all there equipment is led to a central unit. I find this department to be the most unique because they deal with a variety of problems. It’s one of them jobs where you never know what’s going to happen next. So they have to be ready for everything at all times. I knew that my hospital was doing some upgrades and they still are so I asked about what they were doing. They expanded to 24 private rooms including 3 trauma rooms. 10 general examination room and 6 express care beds. I learned that this is a small hospital compared to most. There primary objective is to register a patient and check there weight, blood, etc. And sit them to wait for the doctor if that’s what is needed. I would honestly love to work in a busy emergency room. It doesn’t want to make me choose it as a career path though because I’m not a......

...impacted by other people’s actions without their knowledge. In this third Era the patient’s health is impacted by their cultural and community affiliation and this present a challenge to the healthcare providers as they collaborate the care of the patient because there are some variables created by this intrapersonal relationship that is boundless and significantly affects the treatment plan and patient outcome unlike the second era which only dealt with the body-mind (Dossey, 1990). According to Weil (2004), components that contribute to wholeness include elements and forces that makes the human being a dynamic entity that is constantly destroying and re-creating its equilibrium. ...Compassion and Caring: My Philosophy of Nursing Practice In nursing, it is important to have a personal philosophy of the profession. It dictates how a person deals with the day-to-day tasks and obstacles that nurses will face. Patient populations are ever-changing, with some much sicker than others, and various lengths of stay expected. The nurse will encounter different cultures and beliefs in their practice, some contrary to their own. Their philosophy of nursing will be evident with how they handle the various aspects of the job. One thing that all patients have in common is that they are in a vulnerable situation. They are in the hospital, many confined to their room or bed. Some have family with them. Others must face their sickness on their own. They are in the hospital for nursing care, and that is what should be provided for them. A nurse is a caregiver and advocate for the patient. A nurse is not there only to pass medications and take vital signs. A nurse is there to not only take care of their physical needs, but also to help them when they are at a vulnerable time. A nurse should not only be knowledgeable about healthcare, but also be compassionate and caring to the patient. Choice of Nursing For me, nursing was not something that I had initially thought about doing, even though both of my parents were in and out of hospitals for various ailments and surgeries. I liked history, and was going to study it at a university. Shortly before I left, I had an......
