Introduction
Throughout history in the United States, education has been on the forefront of our communities. Truth be told, people can’t live very successful lives without an education of some type. Being able to speak properly, read, write and conduct mathematics is practically a requirement to survive in society; as these skills are used every day to complete the most minor tasks. The challenge for most individuals today, is not the task of learning itself, but knowing how to learn. Historically children of ages five to eighteen were expected to sit in classrooms, listen to their teachers lecture about a subject, absorb and retain this information, then, recall it when a test is conducted; and sometimes that information was never used again. Fortunately educators, psychologists and other professionals have conducted research and studies concentrating on how people learn. This research proves that there is not just one way to learn.

Learning Styles There are several learning styles, each with their own methods and techniques, which various people use to optimize their learning capabilities (Felder & Soloman, n.d.). Of the several different learning styles there are several that I have found are common among current college students. The kinesthetic learning style is one that I found particular interesting, especially since it is a learning style that is almost completely opposite of the traditional old fashioned learning style. Kinesthetic learners tend to be more physically active during their course of learning, they often move around, and listen to music while reading or studying (Hutton, 2013). This is a style that has far surpassed the

...My Learning Style: And How I Have Adapted Every person has a learning style and most of us combine styles. There are three main learning styles; do you know what your style or styles are? The styles are audio learning, which are people who learn best by listening and hearing information. Visual learning or people who learn by seeing things, objects, displays and take note of interesting points that they can relate to. The last style is the tactile learner; the doer’s the people who learn by actually doing things hands on. Based on data taken from two questionnaires “Assessing Your Learning Style” (Kolb, 1984) and “Multiple Intelligences Survey” (McKenzie, 1999) I discovered that my learning style is Kinesthetic or tactile. Let’s discuss how I discovered my learning style and how I adapted to it to benefit my learning experience and I will discuss an example of how I applied this learning style. Identifying your own personal learning style is important not only to ourselves but to our educators to aid in a plan outlining how we as an individual learn most effective. After describing the three basic learning styles and you have a basic understanding let’s concentrate on the tactile learner or the Kinesthetic Learning Style. The tactile learner will take action rather than thinking or planning what action to take. There are many positive attributes to a tactile learner, they usually have very good dexterity, can assemble and disassemble things proficiently and are very coordinated...

...My Learning Style Lindsay Cavalier Hodges University HSA3145 Peter Van Leeuwan September 15th, 2013 Abstract We now know everyone has a different learning style. I do not believe all people have one type of learning style though. I believe as a company, all employees can benefit from a custom multimodal training. Each intake aspect from the individual learning styles can be tied into one another, for even better employee training! My Learning Style What is my learning style? I was happy to take part in this questionnaire, as I find it very accurate. According to the Vark questionnaire, I enjoyed the results page due to the emphasis on words and lists. I always assumed I was a hands-on and visual-type learner. According to the assigned text book’s six cognitive domains or levels of learning, I tend to skip to the fourth step of analysis. Within my own job, I am constantly analyzing how I can personally complete a task as efficiently and accurately as possible. In my line of work, the more efficiently you can complete a task, the fast the provider’s receive their revenue. The best strategies I can use would be utilizing lists for organizational purposes. I would prioritize them from highest to low priority, taking any anxiety stressors away from the work at hand. For an organization to properly train employees with different learning styles, they will need to analyze each learning style and pull the best qualities from each. I would pull two to three...

...My learning style When I first started to revise and learn for my learning style, I did two questionnaires called honey and Mumford and the preferred learning style. The first questionnaire I did was the honey and mumford questionaairs which was made up of 80 questions and for each statement there was a tick box to determine which one best suited my personality. After completing the 80 questions I added up which questions I ticked into a table. Depending on how many I ticked detrmined what sort of leanrer I was. There are four rows of numbers which were used and under each row there was the type of learner. It was either Activist, reflector, theorist and pragmatist. After answering the questions I found out I was an activist. From this I am someone who likes to take risks and also is spontaneous. Instaed of being logical with ideas I prefer to take a trial and error approach. II would rather do a task and get lots of mistakes so that I can re do my work so that I can learn how to improve my work for the next occasion that I do a similar piece of work. However because I have poor time management I struggle to priortise my work and focus on whats needs to be done and as a result I get stressed. The preferred learning style is where if I get a statement and I decide wheather I agree with it or not. After completing it I found that I am a kinaesthetic learner. This means when I learn I like having a visual stimulus to help me and I like having a reward for hard work if I earn...

...What is my Learning Style? Josh Hull COLL 100 American Military University Thomas Werner What is my Learning Style? During the course of this essay, I intend to discuss my own personal learning “style” or lack thereof and if the idea of a single “style” being the optimal way to learn. Although many people subscribe to this notion of a person having only one optimal way of learning – or style – I feel that this does not and cannot justly explain the multiple methods that I enjoy using to learn different subjects. I also believe that I cannot be so supremely unique as to be the only person that does not fit within the traditional “learning style” mold, thus leaving the only viable conclusion that most people do not fit within this archaic mold. Unfortunately, this idea of “styles” has been around long enough that most people currently enrolled in any form of a learning institution believe it to be a true principle and wrongly ascribe their shortcomings or successes in any particular subject to this faulty model. Before I begin that discussion, however, I will first explain my reasons for being back in school. After suffering for over a year with horrible unexplained symptoms, I discovered in January of this year that I had Stage II Kidney failure. This was due to the malpractice of a physician. Due to this condition and the affect it has on my breathing, adrenal functions and its progressive nature, I was medically retired from my career in law enforcement. So after some...

...Why one should know one's learning style? Humans absorb information and learn new concept through a variety of methods utilizing their senses such as touch, visual and auditory, and as such there are several leaning styles that one can incorporate. Knowing one's preferred learning style can lead to a more efficient and thorough understanding of information and concepts the person is attempting to learn. It is important and necessary for one to become familiar with their own style for maximum retention and confidence in the learning process. Keep in mind, styles can coexist and merge with more than one being used at a time, with each reinforcing the other . “Learning styles are different and unique ways used by individual as they prepare to learn and recall information, so it is also important to know this in order to tailor a teacher's teaching methodology to suit his students."( Ranganath, 2015). According to the Vark's questionnaire, there are several learning styles that helps my learning by suggesting the strategies I should be using such as "visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic."( Fleming). Visual Learner " A Visual learner can remember and achieve the best results by looking at the pictures, images, movies, and demonstrations by the teacher or conducted oneself." (" (Felder, 2015). An example that comes to mind is a physiology and anatomy class where an anatomy mannequin was used as a display for all the students to study...

My Personal Learning Style

...My Personal Learning Assessment Virginia Tucker AET: 525 February 26th, 2012 Deborah Hatfield My Personal Learning Assessment Many factors can affect a student’s ability to perform successfully in the classroom. One of these factors is his or her personal learning style. According to Howard Gardner, there are seven distinct learning styles (Gardner, 1985). The first of these styles is known as the “Verbal-Linguistic” Learner. A student with this type of learning style prefers to learn by using words and being vocal in class. He or she will use stories and enjoy question and answer sessions in class settings (Gardner, 1985). As with any learning style, there are problems that may arise with this particular learning style. Some examples include: 1. Difficulty with online classroom learning environments- These students strive on one-on-one interaction with both the instructor and other students. Not having this could greatly affect their learning ability. 2. Not working well with shy individuals in a team setting- “Verbal-Linguistic” learners need social interaction to fully learn a subject being presented to them in a class. These students may burden and or overshadow quieter students who prefer to work in a quieter environment. The second learning style is an “auditory” learner. An “auditory” learner relies on his or her hearing to succeed in the classroom. These students are very particular about their choice of words when speaking inside the classroom...

...Up until lately, all of my learning styles are from an informal approach. For this reason, I have been conditioned to approach learning in numerous ways. Typically, I use a method similar to military training in which there is an explanation, demonstration and a real-world application. A similar saying is on-the-job training. When free to explore learning at my own pace, I often us a humanistic methodology, blended with an experimental and progressive system. Ultimately, I prefer to learn through collaboration. Regardless of the approach, attitude, effort and perseverance are key factors in learning that work for me. I notice some people learn fast, and when the answer just doesn’t come to them, they give up. While others learn slowly, and...

...Investigation into My Learning Style Ben Thiel COLL100 American Military University Professor Corey Tutor Investigation into My Learning Style Throughout life the term “learning style” is used, each individual has a different assumption of the definition mostly the individual takes on a personal stance and states, “I’m an auditory learner, if you say it once I will remember,” whereas others refer to themselves as most commonly visual or kinesthetic students. However, for one to limit themselves to possessing one type of learning style is quite a limitation. I have always considered my learning style to be predominately visual learner. According to Felder & Soloman, (n.d.) there are multiple learning styles aside from the traditional visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Felder & Soloman (n.d) present eight different learning styles which include; active, reflective, sensing, intuitive, visual, verbal, sequential, and global. Although these styles tend to pull from the traditional three; their definitions give more depth to the characteristics associated with one’s preferred learning style. Felder & Soloman developed a personal questionnaire which allows an individual to answer a series of forty-four questions. Results are given to the individual based on their responses; the scales range from one to eleven in one direction or the other these values compare two learning styles. The numerical value represents the individual’s preference for one learning style verse the...

...Study Strategies and Learning Style From the time we are born and throughout life, we learn. Regardless of where, when or what we choose to obtain throughout life, we choose to obtain knowledge. Everyone approaches learning in a unique way, due to their individual learning style or styles. What is a learning style? ...VARK Analysis Each individual learns or teaches subjects in their own unique way. VARK is a questionnaire that guides one’s learning and teaching style by suggesting the strategies to use (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). It consists of 16 questions that will show if an individual learns or educates more efficiently by (V)isual (i.e. pictures, videos, charts/graphs, diagrams, symbols), (A)ural (i.e. listening to lectures/tutorials, discussing topics with others/self), (R)ead/write (i.e. writing notes/essays, reading books/manuals) or (K)inesthetic/tactile (i.e. hands-on experience, field trips, experiments) sensory mode (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). If a modality isn’t obvious, such a person falls in the category of multimodal. After answering the questionnaire, the learning preference that came up was multimodal style. Multimodal Style When an individual, such as myself, is a multimodal learner, not one single learning modality stands out, rather, the individual employs strategies from all four modalities. There are two types of multimodal learners (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). Type one uses strategies depending on the situation (Introduction to VARK | VARK, n.d.). For example, “if learning music, auditory learning styles would be preferable; if learning art, visual; if learning to build something, tactile.” (What Is Your Learning Style? Visual, Auditory or Tactile, n.d.). Type two uses all four strategies regardless of the situation. This method takes longer...

At work, in interpersonal communication, we continue to receive information, to deal with new life and professional situations that require us to new knowledge and skills. Thus, to achieve success in everyday work and home pushes man to search for effective models and approaches in teaching, life-long. It has long been noted that different people have the same information, assimilate, and then reproduce in different ways. That is, individual ways of thinking associated with different styles and models of education, which are different approaches in the selection of methods of education. Learning Styles

...Frerich October 25, 2013 INFT 101 – C08 Learners acquire knowledge in many different ways. To be a strong learner is to take ownership in understanding and take responsibility for your specific style. We know that knowledge is power. To become a successful learner is to understand your individual learning style and use it accordingly. There are many tools available to help learners determine which learning style is most useful for their success. There are three different types of basic styles: visual, auditory or kinesthetic. In researching and learning about the three main learning styles, it is clear that I am a strong kinesthetic learner with tendencies towards a visual learner. I learn best when I understand the importance of the material presented, by touching, doodling and highlighting my materials. These results resonate well with me and I actually find it very intriguing based on my childhood. I was raised in a deaf family. My house was silent and we of course used our hands and body language to communicate. My visual senses and hands on approach to life has been completely enlightened by this culture that I grew up in and I believe it molded the way that I prefer to learn. Kinesthetic learners take in education “by doing”, feeling, sensing and touching. This style of learner likes to jump in to the activity to take it all in, typically unable to sit still, likes to fidget and move around. Kinesthetic learners do best when able to actually do something physical...

Multimodal learning style suits me the best. Majority of people come under the multimodal style when they think of studying. It is a combination of visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic learning preference (VARK 2009). Though aural and kinesthetic are identified in majority, read/write and visual are well preferred for me as well. Summary of my learning style Multimodal learning style is my preferred learning style. Assessment scores are twelve for aural, nine for kinesthetic, eight for read/write and seven for visual reading. Aural learning is by listening, discussing and remembering what you have learned. Read/write is taking information from dictionaries, handouts, textbooks and taking notes. Visual learning includes graphs, diagrams, videos, flow chart and so on. Kinesthetic learner prefers learning by hands on experiments or by doing things. Learning with a variety of ways is necessary and becomes more helpful. Preferred learning strategies Out of all multimodal strategies, aural learning helps me more. I enjoy being in a class, asking questions to the teacher, discussing and debating on topics with my colleagues, accepting and sharing ideas to and from one another. Tape recorder is an asset to aural learners. Listening to interesting examples, jokes and stories helps to remember better. Taking notes while...

...Running head: VARK LEARNING STYLE VARK Learning Style Family health Promotion August 27, 2011 VARK Analysis Learning styles are different approaches or habits of learning. Learning styles define as the “composite of characteristic cognitive, affective, and physiological factors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how a learner perceives, interacts with, and responds to the learning environment”( Keefe 1979). Stewart and Felicetti (1992) define learning styles as those “educational conditions under which a student is most likely to learn.” Thus, learning styles are not really concerned about what we learn; it’s all about how we learn. Long time ago, education consisted of memorizing lessons, which means reading and writing, followed by more reading and writing. Learners had very few choices to meet their personal educational needs. There are various types of learning style now, but Fleming’s VARK model is the most frequently used learning style among the students. VARK stands for visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic learning. Summary of My Learning Style Identifying my way of learning may assist me to understand that others may approach the same circumstances in a different way from my own. Upon completion of VARK questionnaire, I realized that I have a multimodal (ARK) learning style in combination with a few of all styles. Multimodal learners need to use all of their learning styles and not just one with highest...
