The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium. Six Flags Over Georgia is a theme park containing anything from carnival foods to trilling rides. Six Flags provides many activities for all ages. It is not at all uncommon to see famous cartoon characters, such as Bugs Bunny, roaming around the park. Older children and adults who possess strong stomachs may enjoy riding the various roller coasters available. For example, The Batman, is my favorite. The Batman goes up and down steep hills and even loops upside down. My wife closes her eyes the whole time on this ride. Six Flags also has water rides available to keep people cool. Pittsburgh has weather that sucks, very little African American culture and the overall feeling in the city is one of depression. So why would I move back? Well I moved to Atlanta 13 years ago after meeting my ex-husband online. The excitement and allure of a new city, new opportunities and a new life are what caused me to leave my home city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Well if I loved Atlanta, why did I come back? The marriage, to say the least didn’t work out. My ex-husband was abusive, controlling and an all-around tyrant. Also, I missed my family. Lastly, I had lost myself and was dying to find out who I was again. I met my ex-husband in a Yahoo chat room. I had just graduated from business school and had a three year old daughter. He was able to conceal many things while hiding behind a computer screen and Yahoo screen name. When I was eight, my mother enrolled me in dancing classes, never realizing it would lead to anything serious. For the first few months, dance was entertainment, something to keep me busy. Although I enjoyed taking classes, I did not become serious until the following year, when my favorite tap teacher told my mother to consider getting me involved in more competitive classes. That was the beginning of my long and successful dancing career, one that has taught me many valuable lessons about the art of dance, and the art of life. Over the years, whether I was living in Buffalo, Atlanta, or Randolph, New Jersey, I learned to adjust as a person, and as a serious dancer. In fact, I found traits I needed to survive and grow as a dancer were also valuable in school and life. The officers vow to uphold the city and the department and are proud to represent both as the best the city has to offer. These officers are highly trained and very carefully selected. Now we will explore how these officers are selected, then trained and then finally how they are put out on the streets protecting the city. Before an officer is an officer they are just upstanding ordinary citizens. Before they can become an officer they must submit an application and be selected to become an APD officer, not just anyone can submit an application there are certain requirements that must be met. First the potential officer must be a legal citizen of the United States. One must pass a cognitive skills examination and personality assessment. Also potential officers must have no less than 20/100 vision in each eye, must have a high school diploma and/or a G.E.D. certificate. Lastly, they must be at least 20 years of age. If that’s not enough once they have been offered employment with the department they must undergo a medical evaluation. These are just precautions for the department takes to ensure they are picking from the very best citizens possible. ...Diversity in My Community I currently live in on military base in North Carolina where the only color that people see is green. I am unaware of any racism that occurs within our community. My neighborhood consists of a multitude of different races and we all converse with each other and get along. My husband is the active duty military member and he also agrees that he is unaware of any racial profiling. There is a wide variety of cultures within the United States Military. Just in my husband’s unit there is a Native American, Arabic, African American, Filipino, and Hispanic. However, I grew up in a little town in North East Texas. Atlanta, Texas consists of about 6,000 people. Logging and farming make up the economics of this southern piney woods community. Every Friday night you can find most of the citizens at the hometown football game supporting the players and the band. Though it may seem that everyone gets along in this town and for the most part they do, segregation is evident. The ethnicity that is in Atlanta, Texas is 67.1 percent White, 29.2 percent Black, 1.7 percent Hispanic, 1.1 percent of two or more races, 0.5 percent of American alone, 0.4 percent of Asian alone, and 0.02 percent of other race alone (Atlanta, Texas, 2010).
