My name is A.J. Woods. Most people just call me Alacea or Lacy Jo for short (preferably Lacy Jo). I was born in Dallas and raised in the “Cliff”. I am Black, Hispanic, and Cuban. Let me explain that. My mom is Hispanic and Black, and my real father is Cuban and Black. So that makes me what I am I guess. I have a total of five siblings- Ange, who is a senior at Garland actually, and she’s 18. My stepbrother, Austin, is also 18, but he goes to N. G. I have two younger brothers, Andrew and Hunter, who are actually both 13- no, they’re not twins. One is my stepbrother and one is my actual brother. Lastly, there’s “Honey Bunny” or Ariane, who is 11 years old. Did I mention I’m the middle child in all of this? Well I am. We have two cats, Kitty Mamas and Bevo (woo go Longhorns!!!) and two dogs, Chino, who’s a cocker spaniel, and Elvira, who’s a boxer puppy. My hobbies are dance, drill team, theatre, cooking, event planning, making that money, painting/designing, and weightlifting. My fav food would have to be my grandma’s mole or arroz con pollo. That’s why I’m fat now- you can’t say no to a Hispanic grandma who wants to constantly feed you. My favorite TV show would be nothing because im too busy to watch TV. I do have a favorite movie however, which is the movie Selma, which was about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights movement. My absolute FAVORITE vacation I’ve been on is when I went to Albuquerque & Santa Fe, New Mexico with all my friends last summer for a full week. It was SO pretty and relaxing. Especially since there were no parents there. Oops. If I could invite three people to go to dinner with, I would ask Floyd Mayweather, Zendaya, and Christopher Columbus. Floyd because I’d ask him to pay off my car, and college tuition. Zendaya because she’s soooooooo gorgeous and I would ask for life advice and makeup advice from her, and also how to dress better, because that girl can dress. Lastly, Columbus because he didn’t “discover” America- there were already people here that his people drove out. I would just make sure he realized this before he went blabbing his mouth bragging about what someone ELSE discovered. My plans after high school is either to enlist in the Navy, or take a year off & travel the world, find what I really want out of life, or even go to culinary school. I don’t know what I want to do yet because I’m only 16 and these are life decisions I can’t promise myself or anyone right now. So for now, I’m just going with the flow of what life throws my way. Whatever happens, happens.

I was born in 1981 on December 23rd. My Mother Kris, and my Father Randy were only 18 years young. I was born at Whuestoff Hospital in Rockledge, FL. Rockledge is a proud little city that is about 20 minutes inland from Cocoa Beach. My mom has always had the warm memory of bringing me home from the hospital on Christmas Eve dressed in a red one piece and wrapped in a Christmas stocking. Pay Student Athletes

...college and receiving scholarships in return. On the surface, most people sees great athletes getting a free education, but they deserve more than just free education such as extra rewards and benefits since the college, the conferences and the NCAA are making billions of dollars off of them. To be in a nationally televised game or making deep runs in tournaments can bring in a lot of money for the colleges and universities. But the colleges and the sponsors collect all of the profits and not a single penny goes to the student-athlete and that is unfair. Colleges and the NCAA are making these students basically their unpaid employees. The student-athlete put so much work into the current sport they are playing, in return they get nothing. In my opinion, the student athletes should get a stipend with the scholarship they are getting. The system of college sports is at fault; the student-athletes are making colleges and private companies billions of dollars while not getting anything for themselves. People do not see that the student-athletes have to go practice every day and only have a little time to study. According to Amy McCormick, a law professor at Michigan State, "Athletes don't have free choice of what major they take if the classes conflict with practice schedules. That’s one fact that flies in the face of the idea that they're primarily students and secondarily athletes” (Cooper, Kenneth J). And if they want to get a job and have some kind of money to spend, they cannot...

12 Angry Men

...12 Angry Men I saw a lot of different peer pressure in the movie 12 Angry Men. Modaff describes how powerful peer pressure can be stating that “by violating team norms or exhibiting elements of dis-identification a team member risks punishment by the team” (p. 245 Modaff) One individual was able to avoid group think. One way this individual was able to get the group to quit this practice of group think was to keep communicating communication also known as “metacommunication” (p. 235 Modaff) Another individual was a facilitator or moderator who kept structure with the group after establishing “norms (informal rules that teams establish to govern their activities and behaviors)”. Modaff talks about how “teams need to agree on how they will operate.” (p. 241 Modaff) Is there an unspoken understanding that changing your mind is bad or says something negative about you? This is shown in the movie because every time someone changed their mind, it took more energy to get this out than from someone that didn’t change their mind. Emotions are a big part of the decisions that people made. People are emotional and this is used to help communicate to other people. Emotions, if not controlled, can alter our ability to think rationally. Another thing that will cause people from thinking rationally is prejudice. It will blind people from seeing the truth. Other things that must be considered is conflicts of interest or motives. Some of these that I noticed from the movie...

Reflective Essay

...Reflective Essay Name Institution Date Having bestowed with the responsibility of Accountancy managerial in Southwest airlines, I was tasked with overlooking after all accounting operations in the organization. As an astute manager, I had to observe the contributions of the non–managerial employees as an important contribution that can facilitate the success of the organization. Thus, I took the necessary steps and measures to recognize and consider the efforts of all employees in the organization. This is one of the philosophies that drove me as an accountancy manager in the Southwest Airlines. My philosophy of management was partly derived from the Bolman and Deal philosophy where Harris had quoted a question on how much a manager shows the concern and sensitivity to people. He argues that the amount of consideration and sensitivity that he can show to his/her employees are directly proportional to the few grievances, less absenteeism and lower turnover in the organization ( Bolman & Deal, 2008). Organizational conflicts in the organization are inevitable and as a manager, I would address the competing interest to mitigate the destructiveness caused by the conflicts in the organization. In my managerial style, I try to build attentiveness in building and developing ties with both friend s and allies in order to ease conflict resolutions whenever it arises ( Bolman & Deal, 2008). The flow of communication is what I have given due attention as a manager. Not only...

...Fiction, Between Inner Life and Collective Memory. A Methodological Reflection. François-Xavier Lavenne, Virginie Renard, François Tollet1 Introduction In the writing of their fictional works, novelists often have to reflect on the functioning of memory, for memory lies at the heart both of inner life and of human experience in general. It is indeed in the works of writers such as Marcel Proust or Jorge Luis Borges that the best exemplifications of the subjective experience of memory are to be found. However, from a strictly mnemonic point of view, literature provides more than a means of reflecting on memory: it is also the site of the rebirth and construction of individual and collective memories, which can then serve as a foundation for the writing of fictional works. Creative writing has a meiotic function and is as such a powerful tool capable of rescuing memories from oblivion and bringing them back to life, thus reconciling the past with the present. The present article seeks to bring to bear new perspectives on the relationship between a novelist’s personal memories, collective memory, and the fictional narratives partially inspired by these two types of memory. In the first section we briefly examine the distinction traditionally made between individual memory and collective memory, which we then try to reconcile so as to arrive at an approach to the mnemonic phenomenon that best fits the needs of literary scholars. In the second section we challenge the conventional...

The thing that affects the most to the people is culture not the internet (Chernev, 2012). If the culture and tradition of the country is effective and clear then the utilization of the same is also effective which will affect over the position of the people. Some of the examples are of African and European region countries in which the stance of utilization are totally change with each other. 2. Discuss the types of operational conflicts that could occur in an international context because of differences in attitudes towards time and individualism. Give examples relative to specific countries. Organization is a name wherein people belong to different demographics and mindset work together merely for the achievement of a single and pre-specified goal. There are some operational based conflicts which arise in an international context merely because of the difference in the attitudes towards the timings and individualism (David W. Cravens C. ...Ryan Scott Dr. Dunn ENG 100.12 Proposal 11/13/13 Pay for Play? Define Problem: Last year the NCCA signed a 14-year, $10.8 billion dollar contract with CBS and Turner Sports to allow them to broadcast the annual March Madness of college basketball on their channel. The Bowl Championship series of college football also signed a $125 million dollar deal with ESPN (Ford 1). Depending on how deep of a run you make in March Madness or a big win in a highly anticipated BCS bowl game, teams could potentially bring in millions of dollars to their university. But the men and women who are the ones on the field putting their body and wellbeing on the line are the same ones who see absolutely none of that money. How can this even be possible? College athletes, who put in just as much time if not more than an actual job, receive no type of money for the amount of revenue that they bring in. Sure they get an athletic scholarship that pays for most of their schooling but, not for everything outside of that. There is more to college than just books and schoolwork. People still need to buy food, pay bills, gas, and just everyday essentials. When writer William J. Ford asked senior guard Gary Clark from Wake Forest University about the topic he said “At a lot of schools, players come from underprivileged families. I know we are getting a scholarship, but some folks don’t have cash to get something to eat when the school cafeteria is closed, or money to buy a used car,” he continues. “I...

Change Management

...CHANGE MANAGEMENT Student’s name: Almost 70% of all change management programs are described as failures. Discuss the top five reasons why change efforts do not succeed; and what managers can do to mitigate the risk of failure.  Introduction Only managers or leaders who react rapidly and anticipate change are successful because in today’s world change is constant. Moreover, the leaders who invent and anticipate the future are more successful as it is essential to invent the game to be leader in the industry. Organizations are considered as followers who adapt change later even some of them do not survive. Several models are identified for successful organizational change. Champion responds to the complexity and pace of change. Winners learn, adapt and act rapidly. Others for example losers try to master or control the change in the environment. Out of many models leaders have to select the appropriate model for their organization for transformation that will help their company to flourish and survive. Cummings and Worley stated that,” in spite of its speed, change is the ongoing process of an organization from the present state towards the desired future state in order to increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency.” (1) As per survey over 70% of all change efforts do not succeed whether it’s a simple department or whole company. Major reasons for the failure of change are: * Improper planning • No or lack of commitment from management • Half hearted or Unfocused...

Critically Assess the Claim That Religious Language Is Meaningless?

...language is meaningless? Many philosophers have argued as to whether or not the ways in which we speak about religion are relevant or meaningful. This issue of religious language looks at the way we talk about God, debate ideas and communicate our theist or atheist ideologies. For some, religious language is meaningful and full of purpose while others see it to being incomprehensible and pointless. The verification principle a theory proposed by A.J. Ayer is a key argument, which addresses whether religious language is meaningful or not. Ayer was one of the logical positivists, a Viennese group of philosophers who were inspired by the theories of the early Wittgenstein and he sought to answer what makes a statement ‘meaningful’ as opposed to what makes it ‘true’. Ayer begins his thesis with the claim that language is only meaningful if it can be verified by a sense-observation. If you cannot demonstrate with sense-observations how a statement is true, then the statement is factually meaningless. A ‘putative proposition’ is the name Ayer gives to statements yet to be verified. A putative statement is either verifiable practically or in principle. For instance, a statement such as “that is a red car” is verifiable in practice by looking at the car. However, a statement such as “There is life in another universe” is verifiable in principle but not in practice, as we possess insufficient technology. Therefore Ayer then makes distinctions between strong and weak verification. Strong...
