While driving to the store the other day, trying to focus on chatting with my husband instead of the worsening vibrations of our Buick, I realized it is time to go car shopping. That decision became even easier after I had to buy four new tires, as well as learning my front brakes could go at any time! That brings us to the topic of which car is best suited for my little family: a 2011 GMC Terrain or the 2011 Honda CR-V. In my quest for comparison, I came across a site called The Car Connection. It allows you to compare countless vehicles, providing tremendously detailed specifications. This proved to be a valuable tool for my vehicle comparisons.
With the 2011 GMC Terrain, I focused on price, miles per gallon (MPG) for city and highway, comfort, and appearance. I was all right with the price, ranging from $26,434 - $27,825. It averages 20 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, rating it a 7.8 out of 10 among customers, and staying competitive with similar midsize sport utility vehicles. It boasts a comfortable and refined cabin with enough cargo space for my two dogs. Last, but not least, it has a truck-like appearance and enough exterior and interior color choices to please almost any potential buyer.
Alternatively, you have the 2011 Honda CR-V. It averages 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, rating it at 7.3 out of 10 among sport utility vehicle customers. As far as comfort goes, it has a smooth powertrain, and spacious interior. In appearance, this vehicle seems to echo that of the minivan, and comes in a wide array of colors. Visually, the CR-V appears to be quite a compact sports utility vehicle. Therefore, if car-like maneuverability is something you require, this vehicle is worth a test drive.
These vehicles have many appealing similarities. To make a decision between the two vehicles, you should consider a few points of interest of each.…...

The Fire Next Time/My Dungeon Shook

...The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin is an analysis of race relations in America in the 1960’s. It is a personal perspective in the experience of being a Negro in that time. My Dungeon Shook is a letter addressed to the author’s nephew, named after him, written in the one hundredth anniversary of the emancipation, in which he tries to enlighten his nephew in order to keep him from following his father’s footsteps. He numbered the reasons why the white men have such closed perspective about inter racial relations and insists that it’s the Negros who must accept them and accept them with love because they are just confused and do not understand. He believes that the white men are innocent people with no hope, trapped in lies. He thinks they are like younger brothers to African Americans and therefore they shall force them to see themselves as they are. I am amazed of the way of thinking of this man. Instead of inciting fighting or protesting, which are in their every right after all African American people had been through, he rather put himself in the white men position. He has an almost Jesus Christ philosophy of love and acceptance and sees the white men as lost young brothers of the Negros and has the urge to guide them back the right path. He also points that African American are almost as guilty as the white men for following the standards they put them and live the lives that they set them to. Pretty amazing if you ask me. I think I would have never led myself to...

My Dream Car

...My Dream Car My dream car is made by Ferrari. Ferrari has always been a symbol of speed and prestige as well as elegance. It has even been described as a ‘passion on wheels’. Owning a Ferrari means that you have arrived in style. Only the very rich can even dream of owning a Ferrari. The Ferrari motorcar company is the brainchild of Enzo Ferrari, an Italian who started his career as a small carmaker. The 125 Sport was the first ever Ferrari motorcar. Enzo Ferrari did not intend to build road cars, when he formed the Scuderia Ferrari in 1929. After World War I, Ferrari became a driver on the Alfa-Romeo team. Following a victory at Ravenna, the family of Francesco Baracca, presented him with a small charred plaque. Baracca had died in combat and the plaque was one of the parts of the Ferrari emblem. The Ferrari emblem with a yellow shield with a black horse in the middle is recognized across the world of automobile fanatics. This prancing horse became the symbol of Ferrari and it appeared on all the cars he drove. Ferrari automobiles have been featured in many films and television shows. The Ferrari 250 was in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off driven by Matthew Broderick, the Ferrari 512 driven by Steven McQueen was in the 1971 film Le Mans, the Ferrari Mondial was in 1985 movie Weird Science driven by John Hughes, the Ferrari Daytona appeared in the Miami Vice television shows, driven by Don Johnson, and a replica of the Ferrari F430 was used in the Pixar movie...

Did My Car Join Al Qaeda

...After reading Woody Hochswender‘s essay “Did My Car Join Al Qaeda?” I was left thinking he had not supported the characteristics of a persuasive argument. Although the argument includes key components of a persuasive essay such as a strong opening and establishment of his position on the benefits of driving a SUV, it lacked the essential factual components that would otherwise convince readers to believe his viewpoint. Mr. Hoschswender attempted to acknowledge the benefits of an SUV by utilizing both pathos and logos appeals. Appealing to one’s emotions (pathos) and knowing that children are the gateway to the heart, he points out that “Four-wheel-drive vehicles allow workers to get to and from their jobs, and parents to transport their children safely to school, sporting events, ballet classes and the rest” (Hochswender, 2003). However, he fails to consider opposing views on exactly who SUVs are safer for. Researchers suggests, “Statistically, SUVs are no safer for their occupants than are cars on any of the major measures (front and side collision, rollover, etc.), and in some cases are significantly less safe” (Vanderheinden, 2006, p.30). Additionally he attempts to support his argument by appealing logically (logos), using aspects of his hometown environment by saying to readers that “This is not just because we have plenty of long, steep driveways and miles and miles of dirt roads. We also have had more than 70 inches of snow this winter” (Hochswender, 2003),......

My Conversation with a Car Salesman

...Me: Hello, I’d like to speak with someone in your sales department We are then escorted down a corridor and sat in an office. A few moments later a clean cut gentleman walks in with a smile and firmly shakes our hands. He pulls out a blank sheet to gather our requirements for a vehicle. We’ll call the guy “Mr Sales” – he introduces himself and asks Mr. Sales: What type of vehicle are you looking for? Me: A small or mid-sized SUV to replace my 2004 Outlander. I’m looking for a 2007 or later. Mr. Sales begins to drill down to the specifics (must haves & would be nice) for my next vehicle: power locks, foreign or domestic, moon roof etc. Then he asks THE BIG QUESTION: Mr. Sales: What is your price range? Mr. A and I give each other a look. I’ve already set my price, but I didn’t know if I wanted to disclose it. Should I go high and then try to get him show me cars and negotiate down? Should I go low so he can “think” he’s talking me up? Wait a minute! These are the exact games I loathe! I give him an honest answer: Me: $10,000 or less At this point Mr. Sales face sinks in just a little. He turns to his computer to search is inventory. I watch his eyes scan the screen. There was a long silence, but someone once told me during negotiation that silence is powerful. I looked around his office and noticed an old copy of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War on his desk. I chuckled to myself and thought – know your enemy! (Side note: Not only has The Art of War been...

My Favorite Car

...The history of Ferrari In my opinion, Ferrari is one of the greatest auto company in the world. Ferrari was established in 1929 by Enzo Ferrari. At first, Enzo Ferrari was not interested in the idea of producing road cars when he formed Scuderia Ferrari. It is very difficult in the first few years. After the second war of the world. In 1947, Ferrari built its own automobile factory to produce the first car for general road driving--Ferrari 125s. And a lot of cars are produced in the next few years. Ferrari got many champions in car contests by these cars. It made Ferrari to be a great auto company. Most of the Ferrari car are handmade, so the production is very low. Unfortunately, the low production and sale are difficult to support the huge overhead of racing team, Ferrari often get in economic problems. However, due to the high reputation of Ferrari, many times to win honors for Italian, Ferrari has become a representative image of the Italian automotive industry. So Ferrari got the help from FIAT. Ford Motor Company was interested in buying Ferrari. But Enzo Ferrari refused. In 1969 Ferrari agreed to be bought by FIAT, and the condition is FIAT shall not influence its racing activities in the future. As a comparison Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini both be sold to Germany. Ferrari insisted on and become the pride of Italy. The philosophy of Ferrari Enzo Ferrari said the best car of Ferrari always be the next one. Constant pursuit of success is Ferrari’s philosophy...

Will Cng Power Your Next Car?

...Will CNG Power Your Next Car? The natural gas market will go down because there are not to many cars made that can handle CNG and also there are almost know CNG gas stations when they start to rise because gas prices sky rocket. You will only see the supply curve increase when gas stations start to build CNG tanks. The effects of increased alternative fuel will shift the demand curve because more people will be buying cars and using CNG this will make the gas more conventional and the supply will go up because the consumers will need it. Conventional gas demand will go down because less people will have cars that still run on gas it will be too expensive so you will start to see that people supply and demand will go down. The long-term effectives of CNG will be very successful but I think it will eventually even out. It will be effective at first due to everyone getting into the craze making new tankers to contain the CNG new cars Etc. But it will even out because just like gas it starts out cheap but eventually rises and gets taxed. Short term effectiveness will not be too effective because CNG will be on the beginning stages of growth there are not enough CNG cars out yet so if this idea was introduces to Boston Ma gas stations they would not even entertain the idea. I believe that CNG is up and coming but we need to start with the smaller cities to show that it can happen to the larger ones once this happens you will see a positive reaction to the cities around......

My Car

...For years, I have been driving an old used car with a lot of mileage, and I hate it. It gets me where I need to go, but I’m tired of fixing leaks and broken parts all the time. It's annoying every time I need to take it to the mechanic. Even when they take care of everything, I know I’ll just end up going back there in a few weeks. I have finally decided that I am not going to do it anymore. I have decided to buy a new car! Unfortunately, I have a problem. I have no idea what car to get. Do I want something fast? Do I want something big? Do I want something stylish? Something economical? I have so many choices that I don’t even know where to begin. I am not sure if I will be able to make the decision on my own. I don't have not a lot of money, either, so I probably don't have many options. After I had done some research, I knew that I would need some expert advice. Eventually, I went to a local dealership to check out some new models. I talked to the saleswoman and listened to her carefully. Her honesty and professionalism were really impressive. She had a lot of vary helpful suggestions and showed me some safe, affordable choices. After a long discussion, I finally decided which one I wanted. She not only helped me with the paperwork and finished the sale, but also the insurance. I was expecting this purchase to be a serious hassle, but the experience was almost painless. Everything went smoothly, and now I have a brand new car! I was so excited when I pulled...

My Car Accident

...My Car Accident Like any other Saturday, I was hanging out with my best friend, Lindsey. We had just left the Project Graduation car show, and were headed out Buckeye Road trying to get her home on time. We were playing loud music, laughing, swaying and talking about our boyfriend issues like normal. I hated to see the night end, so we sat in my car in her driveway hashing out our plans for next weekend. We hugged and she made me promise I would buckle up and be safe. Of course, I agreed to both, I put the car in reverse and backed out. As I was driving down twisting country roads thinking about our plans for next weekend, the thought of being in a car accident never crossed my mind. And then it happened. A bright red car came barreling at me head on. I panicked, and jerked my steering wheel. My car wheels dropped off the low shoulder. Suddenly, the car careened out of control, and everything went dark. I couldn’t see, but I could hear the screaming of brakes, smell of burning rubber, feel my body being jolted forward in a lifeless motion. I heard sounds of metal crunching, felt like I was soaring through the sky, and everything ended in a sudden hard stop and complete silence. The next thing I remember is someone cradling me, and talking to me and the sounds of sirens in the distance. I fade in and out of consciousness, but I can still feel the pain shooting through my body, and tears of fear flowing down my cheeks. I woke up with something obscuring my vision and...

My Dream Car

...My dream car When most people think about their dream car, they fantasize and dream cars such as a Lamborghini, Bugatti, Maybach Exelero, Porsche, Lykan Hypersport, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, Aston Martin One-77, etc. However, some people like to keep it simple. I am one of those people. I do not dream about over the line expensive cars, I dream about a car that fits both my current and future needs as well as what’s best for the planet. My dream car is a Smart fortwo Brabus. This is my dream car because for eight reasons. Those reasons include style, high gas mileage, maneuvers well, the comfortable feeling, easy to clean, I don't have to take someone who I don't want in my car, the storage compartment in the back and technology. I have a car which is named Chevrolet Geo-Metro which was introduced in 1992. It is not a car many teens who be happy to say they own. I have seen many different cars but this car is something different. This car has an engine of 3-Cyl, 1.0 Liter with the 55-79 horsepower and 58-75 lb. of torque. This Geo-Metro has some smooth features in it such as the hard roof, seatbelts that are connected to the windows and its unique shape which gives an edgy look. In addition, the Chevrolet Geo-Metro has manual gears in it. It can catch the speed of 55 mph in a matter of seconds. The fastest car ever right? I know that maybe slow to others. But nowadays there are faster and bigger cars than the Geo-Metro. I have a dream of having a Smart fortwo...

Buying My New Car

... bit more power is not enough to make it a smarter and better overall decision to purchase the eight cylinders of the GM Corvette. With power you also must take into consideration another very important aspect of buying a vehicle of this quality which leads us into our next topic of discussion. Continuing the quest of finding the best suitable sports car for a man of my situation brought me to this next topic which is the interior designs and options of the vehicles. As competition usually goes in the automobile industry they usually incorporate the same or very similar offers as far electronics and such in similar vehicles of different brands. The interior design and over all feel in the driver seat of the vehicle played a big part of the decision making at this time. I sat in both vehicles and as they were both very nice the GM Corvette definitely took over in the decision making. It had a very comfortable feel with curves and colors that blew me away. The seat contoured to my body like I could never believe while the leather made me feel in heaven. After that experience that experience it was definitely pushing me toward the GM Corvette in my decision making. Now that I was very satisfied with the performance and interior of the corvette then came my next and final matter of discussion. After examining both vehicles thoroughly it brought me to the most important fact of all which was the overall cost of the...
