My personal mission statement is to improve myself professionally and personally through education and open-mindedness so that I can advance in both my life and career in a way that I can enjoy and feel content. I will make efforts to further my knowledge every day through reading books or magazines. I will work towards improving my inferior qualities such as organization, responsibility and compassion so that I can be a better mother, daughter, sister, student and friend. I will continue to strive for a healthy and long life by following a scheduled exercise regimen and a more balanced diet. I will continue my career development by remaining employed in a field where I can grow and continue to improve my income to achieve other personal goals. I will strive to put time aside for family and friends so that I may be able to treasure the connection I have with them while they are in my life. I will attain a respected leadership role to the people around me by taking a more active role in creating initiatives and solutions to problems around me.
My financial goals are to get out of debt by taking stock of all of the debt I need to rid myself of. I will concentrate on paying off credit cards and loans. I will work on setting this goal by paying off my high interest credit cards and loans first and will aim on completing this goal by next summer.
Another financial goal I have is to make and utilize a budget. A few years ago, I made a resolution to better budget my money. It was wildly successful until a monkey wrench got thrown into my finances in the form of a car accident that I was ill-prepared to foot the bill for. Things went downhill from there, and it took quite a while to recover from it. Since then, my modified budget is in place and seems to be working well. I work toward this goal by not purchasing items that I don’t need especially if they are not in my budget.
Another financial goal I have is to save a certain amount of money each payday and put it into a savings account. I will figure out what I am spending my money on and learn to live without certain things. I will start this goal immediately.
I will stop using my high interest credit cards by cutting them up and throwing them away. This won’t be easy for me but I will be able to save a lot of money by not having to make high interest payments every month.
I will also stop buying big-ticket items, like a new car, television or furniture. I will evaluate my monthly budget before I purchase anything like a car, television or furniture and if I can’t afford it I won’t buy it.
My professional goals after I retire from state government are to secure a position that will lead to a lasting working relationship in the field of psychology. This will enable me to use my educational background and ability to work well with people. Early in my high school years I discovered a personal truth that I have no limitations other than those I choose to impose upon myself. Everyone brings to the world unique talents, gifts, and abilities and some of mine include my strong will and my determination to be able to give something back to the communities in which I was raised. My plans are to not only use education as a tool to prepare me for a new vocation, but also to help me become a self-sufficient individual.
No one is exempt from turmoil during their lives, and I can honestly say that I am thankful for the adversities and challenges which have crossed my path because they have strengthened my character and brought forth certain virtues I might otherwise never have known. There are various personal issues with which I have struggled and I have no doubt as to where their foundations lie. Everyone and everything in my past has been my teacher, and I feel that my history has inevitably led me to my major field of study, psychology, about which I am immensely passionate. It has been a wonderful rite of passage for me to learn to accept all the parts of myself.
My goals are to work with children, helping them to maintain their sense of self. I would like to do this through being a children’s counselor. I would like the opportunity to be able to pass along the information I have learned, that no one person other than oneself can keep one from achieving one's goals and that everyone has the potential to share with the world their unique talents, gifts, and abilities. While one may find motivation in one's hopes for the future, one must not devalue the steps one takes to get there, because it is through one's past joys and hardships that one comes to be who they are. A quote I heard once is, “It is good to have an end to journey towards, but is the journey that matters in the end.”
My family goals are to help maintain good health for all my family members and to maintain a home of which we are all proud. I also want to be able to enjoy leisure time with my family and to encourage my son to work towards getting a college degree and to spend fun, quality time with my grandchildren. I also want to maintain open and productive family communications. I believe that in order to realize our dreams, goals, and aspirations as a family I need to be fulfilled, happy, confident and always close to each member of my family. I also believe that each family member should participate in setting and achieving our goals.
I believe that we can achieve these goals by using a goal setting chart and posting it in a visible place where all members of my family can see them. My spiritual goals are to continually grow in my relationship with Jesus, study the Bible regularly and deeply, and serve others throughout my life. I also believe that church is an important component of my spiritual life. It provides a needed opportunity to worship and learn. I attend church weekly with my mother and want my grandchildren to know how important it is to have some sort of spiritual belief. While attending church is important in that it places me in a community of believers, I believe that it is not a replacement for the intimacy of worshipping together as a family. Through setting aside daily time to worship as a family, I seek to provide the spiritual space for modeling applied faith and having honest and open conversations about the Christian life.
I also believe that prayer is the core foundation of a relationship with Jesus and I desire to frequently model a healthy prayer life at home. I desire for my grandchildren to have the opportunity to hear many prayers and say many prayers in order to comfortably embrace prayer in their own lives. This means I will strive to pray at a variety of times.
My physical health goals which I do four to five times a week are walking, jogging, and aerobics. I also run on a treadmill three days a week and strength train four times a week. Strength training promotes endurance, improves muscle tone and increases metabolism. I also eat healthy and try not to indulge frequently in sweets or foods that are not good for my health. My mental health goals are having a positive attitude, which I do by choosing to approach difficult circumstances with a productive mindset. I know that having a positive attitude can lower my stress level, which is good for my health. A positive attitude can also improve my relationships and change how people perceive me. I also stay focused on all of my goals and change paths when needed, to succeed. Hope is perseverance and people with a positive attitude are able to look through the difficulties they face today and believe they can find a way through or around those difficulties. I’ve learned that people with a positive attitude exhibit optimism, and believe in the best possible outcome of a decision or action they take. They also believe that negative circumstances are temporary. Optimism must be grounded in reality; for example, a person cannot jump from a tree and optimistically expect to overcome the laws of gravity.
I also have learned to have confidence. I believe that people with a positive attitude are confident that they can face challenges and believe that overcoming them is within their control. To increase my confidence, I put myself in situations that I can master and break difficult tasks down into manageable pieces and I try to mimic behavior of people who have achieved success. My values goals are ambition, competency, individuality, equality, integrity, service, responsibility, accuracy, respect, dedication, diversity, and improvement, having fun, being loyal, having credibility, being honest, being part of a team, empowerment, dignity, empathy, courage, optimism and wisdom. I believe that living your values is one of the most powerful tools available to you to help you become the person you want to be, to help you accomplish your goals and dreams, and to help you lead and influence others. I also believe a value-based and principled person is most able to create a successful and fulfilling career and life.

Personal Narrative: My First Paper

...My first paper was a little rocky. At first I could not settle with a topic. When I would start to write a paper I would think it was not good enough and change it to something else. I changed my paper three different times. It was just hard for me to get started and it was also hard narrowing down my topic because I felt like what I was talking about was so broad. Turns out when I finally picked my topic my paper was headed in all the wrong directions. I ended up having to change a lot of things. When I went to Professor Warfield’s office hours it did help me but I was still a little discouraged that I would never get my paper right. I am still trying to keep a positive mind frame and I am hoping for the best with my grade. Overall I learned...

My Special Interest Research Paper

...My special interest is writing. Through elementary, middle, and high school I have improved my writing skills. When it comes to writing, I like to put my imagination or a past experience in a story with characters that reflect the people who I have encountered throughout my life. At a young age, I remember starting my own book. It was nothing special but about a girl's struggles growing up in a big family. The characters that I incorporated were about my own family, my friends, and even strangers that I would see around stores. I wrote about one hundred pages in less than three months. That didn't stop there, I remember that even as young as I was I would take inspiration from just about anything to write a story. For example, I once had an...

My Lai Massacre Research Paper

...The My Lai Massacre took place on March 16, 1968. The Massacre was a horrific event during the Vietnam War. At the beginning of the war, the American soldiers didn’t ever see their enemy. They would fall into poison bungee sticks, and were taken back to an American base for treatment; that is one way that the Americans lost some of their men. Another way that they lost soldiers, was that they would run into landmines. When the My Lai Massacre took place, the American soldiers were advised to kill anyone in the village, treating them as if they were all part of the Vietnamese military. The My Lai Massacre took place shortly after the Tet Offensive (which is another war in Vietnam). It was a bad part of American history because there were so...

All My Sons Reaction Paper

...Through his character, Chris Keller, in the play All My Sons, the playwright Arthur Miller he explores the theme of accountability and responsibility of man which is as universal and relevant today as it was in the post WWII era. Chris Keller calls for corporate responsibility and the human universality of man looking out for man. As humans we have a highly developed brain, capable of abstract reasoning, language, and problem solving, with this in mind if we are smart enough to start of businesses then we should be responsible for the effects they cause. What does it mean to say that "business" has responsibilities? Only people can have responsibilities. A corporation is an artificial person and in this sense may have artificial responsibilities, but "business" as a whole cannot be said to have responsibilities, even in this vague sense(Friedman, Milton). Joe Keller owned a small factory that manufactured many spare parts and Steve was working for him. During the war the factory manufactured cylinder heads for the Air Force planes. One day they shipped some bad parts to the Army which resulted in the crash of twenty-one planes and the death of their pilots. That was a great scandal. Both Joe and Steve were arrested and brought up to trial for that terrible crime. Joe was clever enough to get off with it. He proved to the court that he had nothing to do with the shipped those bad cylinders. Life is full of many hard decisions that people have to take, often on the...

My Big Fat Greek Wedding Refletion Paper

...Eunhye Kim May 18, 2016 After Watching “My Big Greek Wedding” The movie “My Big Greek Wedding” is about the wedding between Tula, who is a Greek-American and was wearing out of fashion style and Ian who is local American white man. Even if now she is in her early thirties, her mother and father want to find a husband in hoping of sending her to Greece. At this time, she meets a perfect guy who is American. The major conflict in this movie came out after she met him. In this movie, there are a lot of cultural things that have learned in this class. For example, dominant culture, a minority group, oppression, culture difference, and collectivism. Here are the reasons why I thought of many those concepts. First of all, this movie showed the family living in America with Greek culture, showing dominant culture and a minority group. At the start of this movie, it illustrated how this girl had grown up in America. Since this Greek family immigrated to America, the dominant culture is American culture. So, Tula was illustrated adjusting in American culture was hard, avoiding other American girls. However, her family was different. Even if they are in American, they didn’t remove their own culture, especially their house. In the movie, they lived in normal Chicago town. Whereas other houses are similar with American traditional style house, her family houses are similar with the temple of the Parthenon. Indeed, they always have their meal with Greek food. In this point, even...

Torture

...12 December 2012 Writing Process My personal writing process is probably somewhat similar to what other students do for theirs, because we may have been taught similar ways. I have my writing process broken down into a few different parts. First, I do research and gather information if research is necessary to the paper’s topic. Then, I would start writing the introduction to the paper. Next, I do the actual writing of the paper and describe each topic in more detail. The last step is to, I revise it in case of any errors. I also revise it to make it better. Each step is important in order to make my writing good. I will discuss in depth and detail about each part of my writing process. As soon as I get the topic and know what I am to write about, I think to myself of some of the ideas that I have that could relate to this piece of writing. Often times, I come up with a story in my own life that can relate or something that I know of that can influence my paper to have more meaning, not only to the reader, but also to me. It will make writing the paper easier if you can make a connection to the topic and relate it to yourself somehow. If I don’t really have a way to connect it I just brainstorm for things or ideas that can be included or used in the piece. I make a list of things pertaining to the paper so I can go through the list easier. If it is a really detailed piece, I sometimes use the web process. If it is necessary to the paper, I will research the topic and try to...

Personal Narrative: Art Censorship

...Throughout my 8th grade writing career, I have changed a lot. I used to despise writing assignments, and I always procrastinate when I have to work at home. Now I find myself enjoying some of the writing tasks. I still think some papers are pointless, but I have started to enjoy prompts such as narrative writing. In fact, I have even started to write my own story for fun. As a writer, I’d say I use pretty good language. I can describe things well, I’m good at organization, but I can improve on all of these. I also need to work on concentrating so that I don’t have to work late. A writer always has room to grow. While one may be excellent in some parts of writing, they’re not the best at everything. For me, I’d say I’m good at descriptions,...

In this project I had to write a ten page paper about the decade of my choice, come up with a question from the decade I chose, find people from the era to help me answer my question, and create a display. This was one of the hardest and most time consuming projects I had ever done. It didn’t help that I was in a lot of other tough classes and in a lot of extracurricular activities. I didn’t know how I would be able to finish it but I eventually did. I was extremely proud of the project I completed and all the work I put into it. English 102 Class Reflection

...Throughout the course of my English 102 class, there have been many attributing factors that have not only geared me toward meeting the course objectives but have challenged and strengthened my analytical and critical thinking skills. My portfolio highlights these acquired skills through two outside of class essays, which required two completely different styles of writing. Another key element that has helped to illustrate the writing process for the two essays in my portfolio was the use of reading various types of literature. This included but was not limited to, editorials, newspaper articles, books, and specific disciplines of research in course related fields. These two essays essentially reshaped my ability to write for specific audiences...

...that everyone has to be a writer in full sense, yet contemporary students feel pretty much like this, with all the load of papers and essays to write overnight or by "the end of the week". My Aproach to Writing

...Yessenia Amaya My approach to writing I have many goals for my English course, and one of those goals is to get into the habit of writing more. By getting into the habit of writing more I am going to accomplish my second goal which is to fix my spelling and grammar. For example learn where to put my commas and periods and learn how to spell words I don’t really use. Another major goal I have for this course is to learn how to target my audience, learn who my audience is and write to the appeal of that audience. My final goal and the most important goal I have for this course is to get an A+. My plan is to try and hand in everything on time and not miss a class. I hope I can accomplish these goals. I also always set up goals when writing an academic paper. For example, I try and get the least grammar spelling errors as possible. I also set goals to finish my papers a paper a certain time so I have time to proofread and revise my paper. And the most important goal I set when I write is to hand in my paper on time. With these goals I hope to get a better grade. I have many challenges when I write. My biggest challenges when writing for others is trying not to have many grammars and spelling errors, but I always do. Another challenge I have is that I don’t know if I’m getting through to my audience or not. I’m also always concerned if I’m giving enough information to the person I’m writing to, in other words being informative. And my biggest challenge might be that the...
