My personal values

Values are those things that are important, meaningful and valued by an individual, a group of people, or an organization. Whether we are aware of them or not, every individual has his or her core set of values, which consist of many different kinds of values. Each individual’s value system is different from one another because individual’s values are built up through one’s life experience, environment, and family background. Values are important to us because they reflect our personal moral standards, shape our behavior, and guide us through long life journeys. Since we live in a highly connected society, each person’s value system does not only affect one’s own life, but also affects many other people and the human society as a whole. Therefore only people with a high moral standard values can bring more good things to our society, and improve thus improve our society as a whole. My value system contains respect to others, integrity, education, and innovation. I value those things because they are consistent with high moral standards and will bring good things to me, to my family, people around me, and ultimately bring good things to our society.

First, I highly value respect for others. Respect for others means acknowledging each other, listening to other's opinions, their feelings, their time, and their personal space. It also means you should do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. From utilitarianism point of view, a moral action is an action that will bring the maximum happiness to most people. Respect for others will bring the happiness to people around us because it is essential to solve problems and reduce conflict. Respect others does not mean that one has to withdrew his or her own feelings, ideas, and opinions; on the contrary, when acting respectfully, we should not only openly express our own opinions, but also…...

My Personal Responsibility Essay

...My personal responsibility essay Marlene Charles GEN-200 June 10, 2012 Mrs. Melissa Ray My personal responsibility essay In life, there comes a time that we all have responsibilities that we must own up to. We have responsibilities as a parent, a teacher, and even an employee. As a student, in order to reach my academic success I must obtain certain type of responsibilities. These responsibilities will have to consist of attendance, studying, and participation. The first way to achieve my academic success is to maintain my attendance. Attendance is something that a student must take seriously to be academically successful. There are ways that as a student I can be successful in maintaining a good attendance. First step is to take the time out to review the schools attendance policies and guidelines; this can help remind me of my responsibility. According to Green’s article “Every teacher is looking for students who are serious about the subject at hand, who work hard in the classroom and who show progress and ability.” (Green, 2004) Another way is to set a schedule for attending classes and checking in for online classes. Also making arrangements by providing my instructor and team with my information in case of emergency, and possessing a backup plan for completing and making attendance in advance. Another way for achieving my academic success is to study. Creating good study habits is an excellent way to complete my goals in school. Things that can help...

My Personal Leadership Experience

...My Personal Leadership Experience Megan Schlafer Transformational Leadership/LS335 November 6, 2012 Dr. Mary Weber My Personal Leadership Experience The following paper will include a brief explanation of my occupational background, as well as a discussion of the circumstances, experiences, and people who I believe have helped my leadership ability. It will go on to explore my own experience and abilities in leadership roles, described by my viewpoints, and future ambitions related to leadership. Further detail will be examined of my leadership philosophies, style, and where I have put them into action. Lastly, I will conclude the extent to which I feel my leadership abilities are consistent with transformative leadership principles, as well as how these abilities will help me in the future. I will also discuss how I might strengthen said abilities in the present. Occupational Background I entered the workplace by the age of fourteen. I managed to get a job bussing tables at a supper club on the lake. I continued working in restaurants until the age of nineteen, moving up the ladder from busser, to hostess, and eventually settling on bartending. I liked restaurant work, for the most part. Truth be told, it was the money that kept me in the field. My experience was so narrow, that I had a hard time getting out of it. Management at this point in my life was never something that interested me; I was content just doing my job. I was immature, and did...

My Personal Leadership Philosophy

...MY PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY “To Lead with STRENGTH” My ultimate purpose in writing this is to share to everyone my personal leadership philosophy – what I believe to be important as we go on with the service. I believe that in imparting this set of guidance, you will come to understand who I am, what rules I live and work by, what you can expect from me and what I expect from you, and how I will evaluate your performance. In view hereof, I hope you will learn to trust my actions and know where I am heading. As I round up my values in life, I found out that the foundation of all my feats as I go up the ladder of my career is my STRENGTH. It always gives me the direction; it serves as my compass. The STRENGTH that I’m referring to here is neither physical nor psychological, but rather the energy to organize myself to effectively and efficiently perform my tasks, and the power to unite all of us so that we are able to attain the Army’s Vision of becoming “a professional, capable and responsive Army that is a source of National Pride.” And being your leader, it is my primary duty to impart this STRENGTH so that each of us here will have a moral compass to guide us through the maze of intellectual, philosophical and emotional issues that encompass our lives and the Army. STRENGTH outlines my character and translates to: Selfless service, Trust, Respect, Empowerment, Nobleness, God, Teamwork, and Humility. Selfless Service: When I speak about selfless service...

My Personal Learning Style

...My Personal Learning Assessment Virginia Tucker AET: 525 February 26th, 2012 Deborah Hatfield My Personal Learning Assessment Many factors can affect a student’s ability to perform successfully in the classroom. One of these factors is his or her personal learning style. According to Howard Gardner, there are seven distinct learning styles (Gardner, 1985). The first of these styles is known as the “Verbal-Linguistic” Learner. A student with this type of learning style prefers to learn by using words and being vocal in class. He or she will use stories and enjoy question and answer sessions in class settings (Gardner, 1985). As with any learning style, there are problems that may arise with this particular learning style. Some examples include: 1. Difficulty with online classroom learning environments- These students strive on one-on-one interaction with both the instructor and other students. Not having this could greatly affect their learning ability. 2. Not working well with shy individuals in a team setting- “Verbal-Linguistic” learners need social interaction to fully learn a subject being presented to them in a class. These students may burden and or overshadow quieter students who prefer to work in a quieter environment. The second learning style is an “auditory” learner. An “auditory” learner relies on his or her hearing to succeed in the classroom. These students are very particular about their choice of words when speaking inside the...

My Personal Plan

...Running Head: My Personal Plan My Personal Plan GEN/195 26 June 2013 My goals for myself are to keep working in my current profession and get my degree in business management in the service sector. As I reflect on how I want to achieve my goals as a student and for my future I must look back and see what I have already accomplished. Some of the goals have been achievable while others have been set for future dates. I always knew what I wanted to do in my life ever since I graduated high school. I would like to successfully complete all my classes necessary to obtain my bachelors degree. There are many goals and steps to take before the ultimate goal is conquered. For instance, goals such as studying, time management, write papers, and collaborating as a team. I hope to learn and even be reminded of what my own kids give me, and also the knowledge I have from my military achievements and apply them now to college goals. First, while attending college I will be learning how to better manage my time with school, work, and my kids. Going to work fulltime and fulfilling the kids needs can be very time consuming for all the assignment and projects that need to be completed for school. Time management is a top priority and a responsibility that I need to use effectively to increase my knowledge in attaining my degree. Next, the future outlook for me in the business management is very much favorable. The industry will experience an uprising in shifts both......

My Personal Goal

...Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business management with honors. After my completion of the undergraduate program I will then move on to a master's program. To accomplish my goal of personal growth and development, I will make sure that by the end of every course I take I will have a full understanding of the subject matter. This is where I will take advantage of the learning teams that are offered in conjunction with individual learning. The way I look at the learning teams is that they are there for me to learn and share experiences with my peers. If there is something that I do not fully understand, I can in turn go to my learning team for the answer. If I cannot get the answer from my team then I will go to the instructor. I will not stop until I have a full understanding of...

Personal Value Chain

...My personal value chain: The value chain is a set of processes, which create value and can be used not only in the business environment but also in my personal life. The value chain helps to create a competitive advantage and improve personal performance. In my current career status I am gaining competitive advantage by continuing my education with a study program to earn a graduate degree. This degree is something that my former co-workers during my apprenticeship have not obtained and it will help position me in to a competitive advantage. Also the fact that I am member of a student organization. The method or process in which I follow to ensure that all aspects of assignments are complete is a checklist with priorities via a calendar. During the past week, this is a process that I have marked for process improvement. I recognized that even though I am turning the assignment in on time, I failed in the process to ensure all aspects of the class deliverables are completed on time. I currently accepted a promotion to the Resource Manager job; one of my duties is to strategically to add value to subordinates. Understanding how direct reports feel valued in the work place and building a relationship based on trust is essential. I have created an atmosphere of trust by analyzing and evaluating situations even before they are a problem. It is essential that employees feel that their thoughts and ideas are acknowledged, and credit is given to the correct person. I have......

Code of ethics helps nurse to direct practice with compassion and respect for human dignity, responsibility, accountability, confidentiality and protect patient safety (ANA Code of ethics, 2014). Codes of ethics also act as a guide for to develop and to perform the high quality of nursing (ANA Code of ethics, 2014). As a nurse, my philosophy is to help others who are in need by providing care and compassion and to be empathetic and sympathetic to others. As a nurse, I also have an obligation to provide the best quality care by making patients comfortable, safe, secured and informed...

My Personal Philosophy

...Personal Philosophy states that philosophy is “The rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct.” Even though a philosophy is an opinion someone has, every person in the same working field would be similar. The different may be their input on their philosophy from which they have grown up by. An example of that may be the type of environment a person grew up in or the way his/her parents taught them the way of life when they was younger. Every field of study has their own personal philosophy. The one I would like to live by and use to help me get through my career successfully, is the Athletic Trainer philosophy. According to, “Athletic trainers (ATs) are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.” An athletic trainer is mainly working around the sports scene, but there are some who also work with the military branches, government service, industrial setting, and a couple of TV shows like the biggest loser and wrestling. In my opinion the two significant questions a person should ask themselves about a particular career are why you want to be what you want to be and what excites me about that career. Coming into college I was a big sports type of guy. I played multiple sports in high school and enjoyed being around it. Also, I am...

My Personal Ethics Statement

...My Personal Ethics Statement Dawn Belt University of Phoenix Health Law and Ethics HCS 478 Shavonnie Carthens July 03, 2015 My Personal Ethics Statement Ethics is defined by "the branch of philosophy concerned with evaluating human action", (Wacker Guido, 2010, Chapter 1). I have spent a large amount of time reflecting on ethics as what ethics means to me, as well as, which values are the most important to me and how I live by them. I find ethics to mean who one feels about doing the right thing and accountability. Values are our characteristics that help us to be ethical. During my journey through the Ethical Lens Inventory, I had to ponder over the many stages and encounters throughout my life. I am amazed at how, so many small, and what I thought to be insignificant encounters, I had in my life has made a big impact on my values. The list of all the encounters is too long to provide here in my personal ethics statement. Therefore, this paper will focus on the encounters that have made the most impact on the most important values to me. As I reflect on my years of growing up, I remember my parents trying to teach right from wrong. My father seemed to teach right from wrong by always focusing on my wrongs as I cannot remember learning right from wrong with something that I did or did not do for the good. I was in fourth grade when I collected every student's pencils and kept them at my desk. Taking the pencils were considered stealing, and when my parents...

My Personal Teaching Philosophy

...My Philosophy of Teaching Teaching to me is a two way street, I teach my students and they teach me. It is a collaborative effort. My teaching is child-centred (Gordon & Browne, 2011), based on the interest and needs of my students; using a variety of different media and strategies to encourage learning. My Philosophy of Learning Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligence (Morrison, 2009) has taught me that children learn in different ways. Piaget and brain research (Gordon & Browne, 2011) also showed me that children learn by making meaningful connections, when the brain is developmentally ready and primed for learning. Vygotsky and Dewey (Morrison, 2009) has also greatly influenced my belief that children’s learning should be done among friendly faces, sharing experiences, conversations and learning from each other through hands-on interactions and play. Learning can be direct or vicarious… life experiences provide many opportunities for the child to learn. My role as a teacher My role is a very important role in the classroom. I am responsible for the care and education of all the little children who are enrolled at my school. I am their guide, mentor, role model, who scaffolds their learning like Vygotsky (Morrison, 2009) implied. My goal is to provide the experiences needed to develop the whole child. I am their caregiver, a surrogate mother if I might say, sharing love, comfort, and motivation. Through my careful observations, I detect my student’s...

My Personal Goal

...I believe that the first step towards setting and achieving personal goals is that you must realize you have to prepare for the future and not wait for it to happen. My life in retrospect has had many changes and twists; it is in a constant state of development. The process of getting ready to write this essay was very challenging. It really forced me to focus on my life and how it has changed as I have matured. Setting goals has forced me to take a look at my values. I have always wanted to have a husband I am in love with, a stable job, happy and healthy children, and a house in the suburbs. But now, after living life and surviving some defeats I realize that there are no guarantees in life except the ones we choose for ourselves. I have the stable job, happy and healthy children, and a house in the suburbs, but that does not bring happiness. The only way to improve your life is to improve yourself. I think that once you begin this journey everything else in your life will seem to balance. There are many steps I had to take on this journey of self-discovery. I needed to define and understand my values and why they are important to me. Then I started to think about my immediate and long-term future and started to set some personal goals. I realized that I was waiting for my future to just happen. My first short-term goal for the future is to become content with myself. I want to be satisfied with the decisions I make, even if the outcome is......
