Looking Inwards, Looking Outwards
To those who know me I am Graya – so called because my friend Donnie was reminded by me of her crazy grandmother in South Africa, who when annoyed at the monkeys and baboons that climbed into her fruit trees to eat the fruit, would shoot fireworks into the trees and at the next instant there would be stone cold dead monkeys who died of shock, lying on the ground and she would be whooping in victory. I am also Carla - a 17 year old experiencing life through dark brown eyes. No matter how exceptional, amazing and unique I’d like to think I am, who I am is really a reflection of many other things put together. Numerous parts of different jigsaw puzzles pieced together to form a new picture. Vital pieces of whose absence would have made another person, not the one I am. I always say I’m different. Never quite what people expect on a first impression. Friends have categorized me as a pessimist, a naturalistic thinker, a boring, little, nerdy person until we became friends and they realized I had a few screws loose in my head and then found themselves laughing at my jokes and mostly moronic and offending ideas.
I believe our experiences in life whether good or bad are what help define who we are. We cannot experience what we are until we encounter what we are not. It is through what we are not that we can be defined. The theory of relativity sustains my beliefs as to know ourselves is not to overcome all earthly passions but to understand them and understand what defines who we are. My experiences and beliefs arise from the relationships I have experienced in both Brazil and Australia, the relationships with my family, friends and people I have met. I learnt that relationships are constantly challenging, calling for us to express ourselves and experience with these people the different aspects that we reveal of ourselves. We can never not deserve to be in a relationship with anyone based on what we expose to each other and what is shared; we simply grow and learn from each relationship whether good or bad.
I relate to this with my group of friends. I have never been able to grow up with any friends due to the fact that we were constantly moving every year until 2004 when I moved to Sau Paulo. I have had an ever-changing group of friends and have been friends with almost everyone in our grade up until some point during grade 10 where I realised that most of the people I was previously friends and most of the grade were illiterate morons who now focused only on getting drunk and getting laid. Not that I begrudge them, like I have previously said, people make their own choices and decisions and that is what they become. At times I have envied them for their freedom, disregard and happiness at simply being rather than constantly working hard at school, work or at home. I now realise how fortunate I am not to have wasted my life and the opportunities present to simple pleasures and appreciate what I learnt from them and my parents constant nagging.
I have grown closer to the people in my classes who actually strived for a common goal - to achieve the best they could to pursue their career path. These people motivate me to be better than them and for that I will always appreciate them. They are all the most honest, considerate, respectful and reliable people who I am graced with having for friends. They are my foundation and make me proud and humble for what I have and what I have achieved.
All my beliefs imply the significance of an individual’s perception of our world and how one witnesses it. Everything I know depends on my perception of whatever it is, whether it is a girl I just met and decided I didn’t like her or fragrance in the air floating by my nose. Everyone creates their own world – every soul determines where it wants to be. As the philosopher Sam Miller believes; the soul is ones identity - the true metaphysical being present within that is both divine and whole. The spirit continues our existence after our physical death but since the life we lead is not final. Our bodies, minds and souls are one; therefore through my experiences, thoughts, relationships and beliefs, I feel that everyone must strive not to make a living - but a life.
I am currently exploring all avenues of myself from life experiences, perceptions, knowledge gained, curiosity, and the desire to learn and discover my intellect. I believe all occurrences create the person I am today. I am evolving by using my relationship and curiosity with my surroundings I decide what I want to become. Through my experiences I create who I want to become and by my decisions, I paint a portrait of myself.

My Philosophy

...gift—be grateful for it. I haven’t been living enough to have fully understood what God’s plan is for me. All I know is that God is still busy trying to weave my personal destiny which I am soon to discover. But as I grow older, as I see the changes in everything, how day turns into night, how light turns into dark, how the sky pours the rain, it made me realized how complicated life is. You’ll never know “what is” if you keep on thinking “what if”. Because truly, life is not about finding yourself rather it’s about creating yourself. Creating yourself to be happy. In life, there’s only two choices, to feel sadness and to feel joy. To feel pain or to feel the love. And for me, facing my adversities is what courage means. No matter how ugly, how rough and how tough the situation is I will still stand on my own and make every situations an experience that I will bring in my entire life. And whenever I open my heart to accept all the happenings in my life, I come to see life in a new light. A light that shines upon all the gratifying things and experiences I have once savored. Life is not perfect. Like us. I may not be a perfect somebody to someone, I make mistake, I stumble, I fall and I hurt people but rest assured that I can value people to the most special way I can do. And I believe there’s still people who will accept my imperfection. People who will not demand and ask me to change but rather they will embrace the person who I am. Well for me, the purpose of life is to feel...

Philosophy of My Life

...MY PHILOSOPHY IN LIFE FINAL PAPER IN HUM 2 1.) “Do not worry for tomorrow but worry for today.” -Rosie My philosophy of life has something related to one of the classical philophers named Aristippus on his motto; “Eat, drink, and be merry, tomorrow you will die”. 2.) “If you really want peace in your mind then think peacefully. I believe troubles and worries about everything big or small are just state of mind. If you really wanted to be at peace then live for it. If you worry, you can never have a peaceful moment.” -Rosie My philosophy of life had influenced by one of the nine (9) classical philophers Epictetus mentioning that peace of mind is very important because it makes a life of tranquility, serenity and composure possible. 3.) “Follow your heart and happiness will follow.” -Rosie I had to agree to the philosophy that had believed by one of the very known and influenced philosopher, Aristotle. He has a strong conviction that happiness is the realization of Man’s highest nature. 4.) “There are many times in all of our lives where we find ourselves knowing exactly where and what we should be, yet our world and circumstances through no fault of our own, seems to build walls and barriers to our dreams. –Rosie Zeno of Citium has his own philosophy about virtues. According to him human being is virtuous when they wish that which is willed by God. My Educational Philosophy

...28, 2012 My Educational Philosophy- A Reflective Comparison “The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think- rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.” –Bill Beattie Education is a journey and to teach is to be the guide. This is my educational philosophy in the most simplest of words. However, elaboration is needed in order to adequately and effectively explain the reaches and intricate views of this philosophy. In this dissertation, several philosophical views will be examined and compared to my own so that a full understanding can be achieved. We begin our educational voyage from the moment of birth and it lasts until we have expelled our last breath. It is the teachers, the guides, and the experiences in between those events that help to shape who we are and who we will become. Effective learning does not only cover one subject area or just one concept, but instead a series of subjects and concepts are interwoven to create the fabric of our knowledge. Teaching is a great responsibility and privilege in that each student is an asset to the classroom setting. Through use of integrated curriculum, collaboration with fellow faculty, hands on experiences, and relationship building with all parties involved on individual and group levels, each student and each class can realize success on their educational journey. My own personal philosophy is one that...

My Special Education Philosophy

...SPECIAL EDUCATION - PHILOSOPHY My Special Education Philosophy S. Bruce Butrym Grand Canyon University: SPE 529N January 26TH, 2012 My Special Education Philosophy Philosophy…Webster defines that thought as, “a discipline comprising as a core logic, aesthetics, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology.” With all due respect to Mr. Webster, combining the aforementioned subjects within a philosophical statement for one’s purpose in life may be the correct approach for ivy leagued institutions, but for an individual striving to reach high school age students within the Autistic Spectrum, in a TMD self-contained classroom; leaning ever so closely to a PMD format, a more down to earth approach would seem more appropriate. As such, after reviewing each of the core areas of philosophy, the subject of Metaphysics drew my attention. Defined in layman terms… Metaphysics allows me to, for one, to consider all I interact with within the schools four walls as “real beings”; and secondly, to consider those “real beings” as “genuine constituents” of the world that can hopefully can add additional strength to the makeup of that world. A major component to the development of my philosophy was to take advantage of the opportunity to interview a number of staff from my local high school; to review what these seasoned staff members had developed...

My Philosophy of Life

...and contemplate about their life goals, their life philosophy. This essay will present my philosophy of life. First of all, the most important thing for me is my family. According to my rules, they are always on the first place, and can count on me, just the same like I can count on them. I was raised by my parents to be a good man who tries to be always kind and helpful for the other people and live in harmony with commandments of my religion. The next thing about my philosophy of life is a proper attitude what means that I have a lot of faith in myself and I am taking challenges with believing in final success. Optimism is very important in man’s life and we cannot forget about it, because it helps in bearing up with difficulties. Having friends is also important; however, the point is to choose wisely and surround yourself with well-wishing and loyal people which won’t stab you in the back when you will need help. My philosophy of life tells that I always have to be myself and listen to my heart as much as I listen to my mind and to play along with the voice of my conscience. I believe, that man should develop himself, every time try to experience something new and always use an opportunity to increase his knowledge in order to be conscious and intelligent. Summing up, I am convinced that the best way to achieve happiness is to be loyal to your family and friends man who has optimistic view on future, as my philosophy of life...

It seem that all I cared about was to go party. I would live with the philosophy of, live one day at a time. I was in the army then and all I worried about was that day, oh payday needed money to party. I didn’t worry about trying to get promoted or move up, that’s what must soldiers strive for. My Political Philosophy Analysis

...My political philosophy has been molded by my family, the people around me, and the places I've been. My parents have been the greatest blessing in my life. Their wisdom has been instrumental in any successes I've ever had. They've instilled the value of perseverance and have taught me to never quit. They've explained how vital education is and shown me how important family is. My father has shown me what it means to be a leader and a true man of God. My mother has demonstrated what it means to genuinely love other people and to be a servant for others. I try to model my life after theirs because of how amazing and loving they are, and not just because they tell me to. They teach me what they believe, but they also encourage me to make my...

What Role Does Philosophy Have in My Life?

...What Role Does Philosophy Have in my Life? In many circumstances individuals consider Philosophy to be a very abstract field, but what exactly is Philosophy? Philosophy studies the basic nature of existence, of man, and of man's relationship to existence. What we must question is, would one be better off with or with out Philosophy? I consider that one should live a life with Philosophy. Philosophy consists of questioning man’s relationship to existence; if man does not question existence, are we just living through the notions of life? As humans we feel the need to believe in something and search for understanding. The consideration of Philosophy opened a new realm of questions. The fields of Metaphysics and Epistemology were derived from Philosophy. If not for these branches of Philosophy, how would I have known to question what I already know? How would I have been able to describe what I perceive? How about being able to explain my surroundings? It all came for the fields of Philosophy. If not for Philosophy, we would have yet to appreciate the meaning of esthetics, the study of art. We encounter esthetics everywhere we go. In the buildings we see, the words we speak, the sounds we hear, in the music we create. Simply the emotions we express throughout the day can be considered part of esthetics. One must use Philosophy to help us give reason to life, and not view it as absurd and meaningless. We all have some sense of what is right, and what is wrong. Whether we choose...

My Life Philosophy by Omotola Osunrinde

...AN ESSAY ON MY PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE BY Margaret Omotola Osunrinde tola.osunrinde@yahoo.co.uk Life is beyond a state of physical and biological existence; it is also a platform for self-realization, which is viable by self-determination, improvement and socialization. This is why I ensure to always strive hard and apply the principle of excellence in whatever I do. I know that my motivation would keep me in tune with life dynamics such that the harder I work, the better I score and the more fulfilled I become. Everyone has their own personal outlook on life, but whatever one’s opinion is, excellence is in tandem with life fulfillment as fulfillment results to happiness. Aristotle once expressed that “Happiness is the most desirable thing in the world”. It therefore comes as a result of self fulfillment. As for me, living in excellence is what gives me happiness. If I were to write about the philosophy of my life in the last decade, it probably would have been to “Live life as it comes”. However, in this decade, I have adopted and realized that achieving excellence in whatever one does forms a strong basis for life fulfillment. Excellence is not relative, it requires a lot of hard work and this is the reason behind why quite a number of people would prefer to take shortcuts. To attain the height of excellence requires a price to pay, it is a result of being meticulous, focused, hardworking, determined and highly committed. The word “excellence” has been defined as the quality...

My Philosophy

...Statement of Teaching Philosophy Why do I teach? Teaching is my chosen calling, a calling I strive to undertake with love and imagination, and from my location as a relatively new teacher, I see no end to improvement, no arrival, no completion: I want to be that teacher who, even after decades in the classroom, still leaves each session asking how the next might be better, how to better engage and inspire this unique set of students. In the classroom, I engage students with historical themes, using music, art, accounts, literature, economic theory, and strategic analysis. I am sensitive to the students’ backgrounds and goals in my lectures, aiming to connect with their personal experience. Among the academic disciplines, history offers a unique perspective on us and the world. Studying history can make students more active and responsible citizens. Students are at the center of my lesson planning process. My first goal is to create an atmosphere that encourages participation and involvement. I am more interested in developing a student’s capacity to argue cogently, persuasively, and synthetically than in the particular content of his or her conclusions. My philosophy as a teacher is to mold a learner from good into the best one. This philosophy is not an easy task because it needs a higher level of knowledge and skills to uplift the learning status of a student specially those who need a 100% focus on their learning strategies. As a teacher, it is our responsibility...

...Craig Connor’s Philosophy of Education Craig Connor Mount Vernon Nazarene University PEL6003 History and Philosophy of Education October 1st 2011 Dr. Stephen Metcalfe Philosophy of Education When developing a philosophy of education, it is important to take into account student diversity, student learning, curriculum, classroom management, and technology. In the following, I will explain my ideas in these areas and how I will implement them in the classroom. Student Diversity As a future educator, I look forward to teaching children with diverse backgrounds. No classroom is made up of students who are all identical. I will encounter gifted children and ones with special needs. There may be boys and girls who are culturally different and from dissimilar economical circumstances. Gifted students are challenging because they grow impatient about material that doesn’t interest them. Therefore, it is important to modify lessons to accommodate their needs. For example, I will add further criteria that appeal to each of their interests. Just the opposite will be done with special needs children. Many times I will need to modify lesson criteria in order to fit their needs. It is best to limit their written work and set achievable objectives for them. When they do reach these goals, I will praise them for what they’ve done. It is a definite possibility that I will teach children of different cultures throughout my career. With that being said, I understand the importance...

My Philosophy

...When discussing my personal philosophy, I believe people are born evil by nature according to rules and regulations set by common standards. As a child, I had to be taught how to do things such as “share” and not be selfish, not be “disrespectful” and was given consequences for my negative behavior when I displayed explosive temper tantrums. As a parent, I have to teach my three year old toddler the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, greed and giving. He wasn’t born wired with the ability to automatically show positive traits and charactistics. Although there are times now that he is older he has the ability to “be good”, I have seen that it is a lot easier to be “bad” since we are born with “animal instincts”. Then I ask myself who made these the rules? Why do we have boundaries? Why does he have to “share” something that belongs essentially to “him”? If I ask him to complete a task and he says “no” or feels the need to act out his emotions by falling out onto the ground, why can’t he? I display my anger sometimes by arguing or separating myself when I don’t want to be bothered, I tell individuals “no” when I don’t want to do something, why can’t he? Who defined evil and good? I ask myself was it the Bible? Who really wrote the bible and how do I know if those words were truly inspired by God? The question is I don’t know. But as an adult, I understand the good that people can be and display. Sure, I would love to rob a bank without getting a trouble...

My Philosophy

...Myra Battle February 26, 2013 Philosophy 2509 TTH When it comes to having a philosophy I’m not sure I have one. I have many beliefs but not a specific belief guides my life. When I think of why am here and my perspective of life I draw a complete blank. Those are the most difficult questions I have ever asked myself and the most difficult to answer. Trying to find my purpose on a planet of 7 billion people is like finding a needle in a hay stack. I’m just one girl in the world living my life from day to day how am I supposed to know my purpose on this planet. I do believe in God so I know I have some purpose on this earth but I’m not sure my purpose is to be some big inspiring person or just a normal successful African American woman. There are so many paths a person’s life can take and it can have a positive or negative effect on their life but I do not believe that the outcome of my life positive or negative will have some huge cosmic effect on the world. I feel that the purpose of life is unknown and we live everyday trying to fulfill and find our purposes. Considering my position on this planet is a big mystery to me and so is my view of the world. The world being such a big place just makes it so much harder trying to figure out the meaning of life itself. How can I know that my meaning of life is the same as everyone else’s in the world, it’s impossible. My meaning of life maybe different from someone else’s meaning of life so how can we ever find the true meaning to...
