THE RIDE OF A LIFETIME
Last year, when I was still living in India something terrible happened. In India everybody in high school has a motorcycle, in the US if a teenage driver gets pulled over by a cop for speeding twenty miles per hour above the speed limit or driving with out license might end up in jail. In India there are no speed limits in cities. If a teenager gets caught by a cop speeding or driving with out license, he can get off by buying a cop a coffee or giving him $10. For me a motorcycle was something more than two wheels and metal, it was freedom for me. According to me freedom is not asking some one for a ride to school or home or on long rides beside mountains racing friends. I finally asked my mother for a motorcycle.
Before I begin, I think it is important to give a little background on how I got to where I am today. As a teenager, I had a terrifying experience on a four-wheeler that led me to fear the falling off part. My cousin Sam, his girlfriend of the time, and I were riding on a four-wheeler. He decided to let her drive, and as she jerked forward attempting to take off, I fell backwards off the back. Hanging on by the bars, I could feel my head grazing the blacktop road. It caused a great deal of alarm, but I was a teenager so we continued on our way not telling anyone what had happened to avoid getting into trouble. Since then I started preferring motorcycles rather than…...

... back then. Beside all the fun with the pet dog, we did the usual fun things that kids do growing up with your immediate family in Detroit. Like; some Saturdays we would all go downtown and ride the big four deck Boblo on the Detroit River. We enjoyed music, food, and fun in route to the Boblo Island amusement park. Then sometimes our elder sister Ronda and the other five of us would go downtown to Detroit’s museums for the day and we would check out many art exhibition Those where really exciting and fun times, I also did many walkathons. The best time ever was when hanging out with our daddy on his days off we would go to the park, roller skating, bowling, and daddy would take us to the drive-in theater and most of the time I wouldn’t make it through the whole movie because of falling off to sleep. My most memorable event in my life was when my mother and Sister Michele and I traveled the United States on a thirty day greyhound road trip. I was eight years old and had the time of my life. We traveled many cities and met friends along the way. The one place I’m visualizing at this moment is being in Philadelphia, PA and mother taking us to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I can remember seeing all different kind of beautiful painting and statues. While in Philly we also saw the liberty bell it was so huge and we were able to touch it. This was just a beautiful experience of a life time and our visit there lasted only two days. We had eaten great food and we even had...

My Life

...“I can’t believe I’m actually going to do this!” all my life, I’ve always been the one to stay behind when I was needed, the one who was never comfortable with himself. I’ve always been afraid about every simple thing like being afraid of the dark, scared of spiders. Who would ever know, that my biggest fear would change my life completely! It all began when my mom said, “I think it’s time for you guys to meet both sides of our family.” My two sisters and I were very well confused hearing her surprising news. Deep down inside, I already knew what she meant, and I was extremely terrified. I was about eight years at the time. Since both of my parents came to the U.S for a better life, they left the most important people in their lives behind in Mexico. I grew up hearing lots of Mexican myths and stories about their childhoods like La Llorona, a Mexican myth of a ghost woman who drowns and kills little kids and also El hombre Sin Cabeza the dangerous man without a head riding his big black horse in the middle of the night knocking doors and killing everyone that comes his way. I was always terrified of listening to these stories and it gave me an even greater fear since I knew I was going to Mexico. I knew that the only way my family and I could get to Mexico was on a plane. Which brings me to my biggest fear: I am afraid of heights! My mom knew about my fear, but she never thought of it when buying the plane tickets. I didn’t know how to react. I could only think...

My Life

...Ahmed Al-Matari Professor Marine English 111 October 30th, 14 Personal Narrative Life is all about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Four years ago, I walked out the Washington Dulles International Airport for the first time. This was a significant event that changed everything about my life and me. Although leaving Saudi Arabia was a tough decision to make, I knew I would be leaving my family, my homeland, and my friends to go to a far-away place to seek for a better life. My parents supported my decision because they believe life is wonderful and the world was big. Arriving in a new country was exciting and discomforting. America is a wonderful place to live, which is full of adventure and challenge. I was highly fascinated by the Western culture. Although I lived in a westernized household and grew up in international schools, I learned English since I was a child. However, my writing and oral abilities tend not to be adequate. I had to study hard to improve my English, so that I can understand the people and the language more. Since I came to America, I made great progress not only foreign language but also adaptive capacity. I believe the most significant part of my life is when I was able to cope with the social differences I faced in two different countries. The most important social differences that affected me and made me who I am today are family, religion, and gender equality. Family is one of the most important parts of Arab...

...Class Des Anges 1…verses study guide Class verses Psalm 23  1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.  2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,  3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.  4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.  6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 1 1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.  3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.  4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.  5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.  6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. John 3:16-17 16  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  17 For God did not send his Son into the world...

...Carlos Olea-Tapia 9/02/15 Mr. F 5 paragraph essay Standing out I was only ten when my dad first told me not to be like the rest of my fellow students. He said, “The only two things that matter in this world are family and being who you are.” From that day on, I, Carlos Olea-Tapia, took these words seriously. It wasn’t easy since I was born on March 8, 1998, and at the time a lot of things were happening in the year 2000. The media was tough to face since everything out there was either mainstream or popular so I stared to look for alternatives such as listening to underground bands and reading books. School wasn’t easy either. People don’t like change so when they saw a kid like me they would make fun of me or admire me for being who I am. I’m now seventeen and I’ve been changing ever since. Elementary school and middle school were both shit like literally some kids made my life a living hell. Elementary school was probably the worst; I was bullied by many kids until one day I came home and told my mother, my mother straight up gave me permission to punch any kid if bothered no matter what the school consequences were. That day I stood up for myself and showed the world that I wasn’t going to take shit from no one. Middle school was a little better. I made quite the name for myself. By the end of eighth grade I was known as a pimp and I liked it. That reputation continued on to high school by then I was no longer a pimp I was a drug lord. I wore the best of the best...

...The double life of Utopia: the skyscraper 1. the reproduction of the world Each plane of a skyscraper is considered as a virgin land, which the architects have no control over the specific programs. The skyscraper becomes the great metropolitan destablizer that promises perpetual programmatic instability. Considering that Manhattan is separated from the continent by two rivers at each side, which excludes the possibility of expansion, the skyscraper is the only choice for the growing business demand. The skyscrapers are seen as repetition/reproduction of the site/earth by Rem Koolhaas. The lobby of the skyscrapers accommodates social facilities such as shops and bars, which competes with the street and finally makes the surrounding streets deserted. Like the Unite de Marseilles, they have the ambition to become “a city within a city.” The Model of the 100 Stories Building The building is interrupted every 20th floor by public plazas that separate different functional sectors: industry at the bottom, business in the second quarter, living in the third and a hotel in the fourth. The 20th floor is a general market, the 40th a theater, the 60th a shopping district the 80th a hotel the 100th an amusement park, roof garden and swimming pool. And it has a temperature and atmosphere regulating system. The forthcoming model of the skyscraper is the combination of three attributes: 1.the reproduction of the site (seen in Flatiron Building). 2. The introduction of a tower...

My Life

...I have been treated like a child my whole life. That all changed when I went to Scotland because my grandmother was having a knee operation. I knew it’ll be my responsibility to take care of her after the hospital. The day grandmother was coming home I cleaned the whole house from the bedrooms to the bathroom. I never really would clean the house but it was showing how responsible I was starting to become. The next day I actually felt like I can take responsibility for what I do, usually grandmother would go and pick up my four year old cousin from school and that would mean she would have to walk. She actually went one day without telling me and I told her next time to let me go get her. She didn’t say anything after that I went to go get her from school everyday. Grandmother had to walk for at least 15 minutes so I decided to go with her on walks, which I usually don’t do but I mean what if she fell and she needed help, and I wanted to grow a better relationship with her. After grandmothers knee felt better we went to London for a week for a wedding and to see my cousins newborn baby. When we were there the only thing I did was care for the baby because her mother didn’t exactly know how to take care of a newborn so I helped. My aunt would have to take care of the baby but then she would have to go to work so I told my aunt to let me do the housework and she can go and relax. It felt good to know that you actually can help others without even knowing it. Me, I...

My Life

...Alfred Wegner Speech By: Neala Edward Good morning fellow scientists, peers, and public my name is Alfred Wegner and I am here to talk about continental drift. Have you ever wondered why the Earth’s continents are located where they are, and not somewhere else? Well I’m here to tell you. My theory that I have developed of continental drift, can explain the present location of the continents. About 300 million years ago, all of Earth’s land masses collided to form one supercontinent, which I call Pangaea. They were not separated like they are now, but joined together to form one massive land mass with water surrounding it. Also some land that is visible now was under water 300 million years ago; which explains how the continents were able to form one land mass. Obviously Pangaea did not last forever. About 200 million years ago this supercontinent started to break up, and the broken up land masses (continents) drifted apart to their current position. You may not believe my theory, but I have evidence to prove that this is true. If you look at a world atlas you can notice that by the shapes of South America and Africa, they could probably fit together. The pointed area on the east side of South America could fit perfectly like a puzzle with the indented western area of Africa. This proves that all the continents were once fitted together to form Pangaea. Also while studying the lands of South America and Africa I have discovered fossils of the same plants and...

My Ride on the Bus

...My ride to high school was the worst experience ever. Never again will the PVTA bus be my transportation to high school. There will always be people who will ruin your experience when you wait for the bus, ride in the bus, and exiting out the bus. Regardless of how many miles it is from to home. Walking would be a better transportation than taking the bus. Walking to the bus stop was the easiest thing to do, but when it comes to waiting for the bus, there will be problems that will surface. Once I arrive to the bus stop, I find myself repeatedly checking the time on my phone to notice that the bus is ten minutes late like always. People around me waiting for the bus start complaining how late the bus is, you keep telling yourself that any moment that bus should pull up any minute now; however, as those minutes that pass by, no sign of the bus coming. The sound of a lighter igniting really puts me in an uncomfortable state when hearing the flick sound three times, and seeing the person lighting his cigarette up like a birthday candle. Then proceeds to inhale the cigarette, finally exhaling the fumes that looks like a poisonous cloud that looked like death. The worst part about it is that the poisonous cloud was coming after me like if it sense my fear. The cigarette fumes hits me when inhaling the toxins; in addition, making me feel sick like if lung cancer was not my worries before the bus comes. Thoughts began to enter in my head like lightning saying stuff like “Why do...
