* Located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most well known structures in the world. * The Eiffel Tower was originally built as the entrance arch for the World's Fair in 1889. * It is named after Gustave Eiffel, whose company was in charge of the project. * The Eiffel Tower is 320 metres (1050 feet) in height and was the tallest man made structure in the world for 41 years before being surpassed by the Chrysler Building in New York. * The Eiffel Tower is made of iron and weighs around 10000 tonnes. * Around 50 tonnes of paint are added to the Eiffel Tower every 7 years to protect it from rust. * Despite its height, the Eiffel Tower was designed to be wind resistant, swaying only a few inches in the wind. It actually moves further when the iron on the sun facing side heats and expands, moving the top up to 7 inches (18 centimetres) away from the sun. * Temperature also alters the height of the Eiffel Tower by up to 6 inches (15 centimetres). * Millions of people climb the Eiffel Tower every year and it has had over 250 million visitors since its opening. * Visitors can climb up stairs to the first two levels or take a lift which also has access to the third and highest level. * Being so popular, the Eiffel Tower design has been recreated around the world, including the half scale replica at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel in Nevada, USA and the full scale Tokyo Tower in Japan. * Not everyone liked the Eiffel Tower when it was first built, with many criticizing its bold design. * The French name for the Eiffel Tower is La Tour Eiffel, it also has the nickname La dame de fer which means the iron lady.

 In 1960 French president, Charles de Gaulle, negotiated a secret agreement with the Mayor of Montreal, Jean Drapeau, to temporarily dismount the Eiffel Tower and relocate it to Canada for the 1967 Universal Exposition. Thankfully this was vetoed by the company which operated the tower who feared that the French government would not be willing to return the tower to its original location.
 Few people realize that the Eiffel Tower played a crucial role in the First World War during the Battle of the Marne in 1914. Signals would actually be sent out from the top of the tower in order to direct the French troops to the front line.
 From 1925 to 1935, the Eiffel Tower, nicknamed the “Iron Lady” was used as a commercial billboard by CITROEN, a local French company that sells motor vehicles. The tower was equipped with a large series of illuminated letters that spelled out CITROEN vertically. No other brand has ever used this legendary monument as an advertising medium. - See more at: http://www.localnomad.com/en/blog/2012/10/15/10-interesting-facts-about-the-eiffel-tower-in-paris/#sthash.owdyIQEr.dpuf

François Reichelt was a French tailor at the start of the twentieth century who fashioned a make-shift parachute with the intention of jumping off the Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately for him, jumping from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower proved unsuccessful. He remains famous to this day thanks to all the documentation that exists on his attempt, including a live video and images of the fall. - See more at: http://www.localnomad.com/en/blog/2012/10/15/10-interesting-facts-about-the-eiffel-tower-in-paris/#sthash.owdyIQEr.dpuf
 Few people realize that publishing night time photos of the Eiffel Tower is strictly prohibited without contacting the Société Nouvelle d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SNTE) and paying a legal copyright fee. The SNTE reserves all rights when the lights are a glow. This is not the case for day time photos on the other hand.
 20 years after its construction the Eiffel tower was almost completely dismounted and scrapped. All the parts were intended to be dismantled and sold. Thankfully this never happened. - See more at: http://www.localnomad.com/en/blog/2012/10/15/10-interesting-facts-about-the-eiffel-tower-in-paris/#sthash.owdyIQEr.dpuf 1. Most people know that Gustave Eiffel was the original architect behind the Eiffel Tower. What is less known is that he had a private room built for him at the top of the tower which can still be seen even today. 2. In 1889 France´s renowned newspaper company (Le Figaro) actually set up a printing press on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. The paper is still published there on site and for a nominal fee you can have your name printed on a freshly pressed copy. 3. 72 names of France´s most prominent scientists, engineers and notable individuals are engraved at the base of the tower. The engravings were painted over at the start of the 20th century but later restored by the SNTE.
We recommend you come visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris for yourself and discover all these mysteries first hand. While you´re there feel free to rent one of LocalNomad´s magnificent apartments located in the top districts in the French capital.

My Story

...thought and the most important things that define me are my adoption, heritage, and passion for the game of softball. It is not just one aspect that defines me. It is through my past experiences, and future ones that shape who I am as an individual person. My adoption would have to be what defines me the most because being adopted shows a person that they can’t take their family for granted. Building and keeping the strong relationship with my family is very important to me. These relationships continue to grow every day. Without my family I don’t know where I would be right now. The basically saved my life and that’s what family is for. Another thing that adoption has taught me about is inclusion. My family took me in when I needed it the most and they didn’t treat me like I was an outsider even though they didn’t know anything about me or where I came from. Including someone is something me and my friends are doing could change someone’s life for the better. I was taught that I shouldn’t exclude anyone and if they are shy go over to them and ask if they want to join. Continuing with the family idea and the adoption, my heritage is also another thing that defines me. With being adopted I was only introduced to my adopted family’s heritage which is Irish, German, and Scottish. However, this summer I decided to ask my mom what my true heritage was and she told me that I was Greek. By me being Greek it explains a lot about my...

Julia's Tribute

...For those of you that don't know me my name is Brittany. I work at The Willows at Citation where I took care of Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find the good in a lousy situation. The interesting thing is that bar is constantly moving. That thing that may have seemed completely insignificant a few months ago, can suddenly become the joy that gets...

What Is The Theme Of The Short Story 'My A Ntonia'

...The short story called “My A`ntonia” is told from a fictional memoir named Jim Burden. Once you read about the author, Willa Cather, you get a better understanding of who Jim is and why he is there. Willa based many of the events, characters, and settings through her own childhood experiences. The story is written in first person because the story is focused on Jim’s perspective. The story is also written all in past tense. I feel Willa wrote her story in first person past tense logic because it revolves around her past memories that can never be regained. “My A`ntonia” starts off to be boring in my opinion. Once the reader has their full attention on the story, they start to grasp what is written between the lines, and the small hints that...

Write About the Ways Browning Tells the Story in My Last Duchess

...The story focuses on the key events of the painting, the marriage between the Duke and the past Duchess, the possible murder of the Duchess and the yet to be new wife. The story being told is of the relationship between the Duke and former Duchess. Browning adopts numerous narrative techniques. Browning uses the form of a dramatic monologue to help the story progress. For instance 'That's my Last Duchess' shows that there is one speculator although there is an implied audience. The effect of this is that it shows that the poem tells a story that consists of much more than the words spoken by the one giving the monologue. To evaluate, the dramatic monologue makes it engaging with the reader. Additionally, Browning uses rhetorical questions as part of form to help tell the story. For example, 'Who'd stoop to blame..' is a clear example of the Duke trying to persuade his audience. The effect is that it reveals more about the Duke's character as the rhetorical question reinforces the impression that the Duke is haughty and self-important. To evaluate, Browning uses rhetorical questions effectively, revealing more about his character. Browning uses a lexical field of jealousy, ownership, artistry and love in order to aid the progression of the story. For instance, 'my Last Duchess painted on the wall' shows that the Duchess is objectified. The effect of this is that it allows the reader to sympathise with the Duchess and forces the reader to think of the Duke in a negative manner...

...FPT IS’s case Effect of the Decision and Reaction of People Hi every one! I’m Lien and now, I’ll tell you the effect of the decision made by FPT IS’s president and different attitudes towards it. As Binh has mentioned before, Mr. Do Cao Bao said that the aim of his decision that FPT IS’s employees are not allowed to take a nap in the work area is all to create an image of a more professional company, as we’re on the way to globalization. First, I need to say that this decision is not against the law. So do we consider it as a violation of CSR, or business ethics, especially responsibility to employees? Well, its impact on the employees was not as good as the president had expected. Although they still have break time at noon, the employees always suffer from the lights in their office so they found it very difficult for them to take a real rest. In the past all the lights were turned off during break time in order to bring a suitable environment for resting but now it’s changed, which leads to an unexpected effect that if people just want to close their eyes for 5 minutes, they still cannot relax and most of them choose to stick their nose to the computer to kill time. And in the afternoon, they’re so tired and sleepy that they yawn and yawn continually for how many times they cant count so that creates even a more unprofessional image of the company than before. And by before I mean the time when a foreign customer came and see the employees sleep IN THEIR BREAK TIME. ...

My Story

...1983 and have been raised by two great parents who have served in the church pastorate for thirty years now. I have one brother, about seven years older than I am. When I was still a baby, we moved to Hawaii where my Dad served as pastor for just under two years. I remember very little of my toddler years, and barely remember the next place we moved to, which was Grove, Oklahoma. I can tell you that we went from sunshine and beautiful weather to dodging tornadoes; one in particular literally jumped over the church we had taken shelter in when I was about three. Our family moved back to Tennessee to pastor where we lived in several different places. By the time I was eleven, we had just moved to Anchorage, Alaska where my father served as a pastor and as the state youth director. We lived there for four and a half years and to this day, it was one of my absolute favorite places to live. As a pastor's kid, I became the quintessential church brat. I lived, ate, breathed, and slept in the church. And just so you know, this was a literal situation; we actually lived in an apartment that was built into the back of the church. It was in Alaska that I first decided to follow Christ, encountered the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and where God confirmed the call of ministry on my life. The first sermon I ever preached was in Kotzebue, Alaska. I preached on Revelation where God is speaking to the church of Laodicea and urging them to be hot or cold. I remember it vividly because I used the...

...The Skeletal System Overview Can you imagine what the human body would be like if it were devoid of bones or some other form of supporting framework? Picture a "blob" utilizing amoeboid movement. Ugh! The skeletal system consists of bones and related connective tissues, which include cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. Bone is a living tissue and is functionally dynamic. It provides a supportive framework for vital body organs, serves as areas for muscle attachment, articulates at joints for stability and movement, and assists in respiratory movements. In addition, it provides areas of storage for substances such as calcium and lipids, and blood cell formation occurs within the cavities containing bone marrow. The skeletal system consists of 206 bones, 80 of which are found in the axial division, and 126 of which make up the appendicular division. Many of the bones of the body, especially those of the appendicular skeleton, provide a system of levers used in movement, and are utilized in numerous ways to control the environment that surrounds you every second of your life. Few people relate the importance of movement as one of the factors necessary for maintaining life, but the body doesn't survive very long without the ability to produce movements. The study and review for this chapter includes microscopic and macroscopic features of bone, bone development and growth, location and identification of bones, joint classification, and the structure of representa tive...
