My Experience
One thing that I learned about my writing from this project is that I can write a story or form a plot without needing an aspect of romance in my writing. In fiction I have written on my own, I have noticed an overwhelming theme of relationships just developing, but not necessarily needing to be in there. A lot of plots that I have developed have needed it, but this story is one in which I knew that there was no point for the character to have a relationship with anyone really, and I knew that it would be a challenge for me to keep that out. Additionally, I worried that I would write too much, but each time that I tried to add something in after I had completed the story, it felt too forced and made the story feel choppy and …show more content…
It offered some more information on definitions of mental disorders, saying a mental disorder is “a clinically behavioural or psychological syndrome that occurs in an individual” (Warne and McAndrew 156). What was surprising to me about this definition was leaving out any societal effects. I realize that there is no way to exactly place what causes someone to go over the edge, but it seems strange to leave out the possibility that external factors can affect someone’s mental health. While it doesn’t rule it out, I would have been curious to see it integrated into a definition. Later in the article, it says that “human experience is a cacophony of the cultural, biological, historical, ecological, political and psychological aspects of life” (Warne and McAndrew 160). Although this is not an accepted definition, the article at least acknowledges that things outside of the human body will affect what is inside the human body. That was useful to me especially since the things happening around my character affect her mood so easily, like the flowers, the sky, the woman, and her dog, as well as the absence of these things causing her to slip farther …show more content…
Basically, this woman is already mentally unstable and is forced to stay up in a room with yellow wallpaper. She becomes convinced that she is a woman trapped in the wallpaper which drives her insane and turns her against her husband and his sister. The very fact that it is the color of the walls that drives her crazy is something that I used in my story with the glaring white of the walls and linoleum that caused my protagonist to slip out of reality. Some of the lines that inspired my writing in particular were lines like “I never saw so much expression in an inanimate object before” (Gilman). Also, I used the line “This wall-paper has a kind of sub-pattern in a different shade, a particularly irritating one”

...became interested in reading and writing was when I was about 5 and I read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr.Seuss. I remember just loving to read that book that I read it like 10 times and then my parents got me more Dr.Seuss’s books and I remember reading those books very quickly. I really enjoyed Dr. Seuss’s books because the drawings were so colorful and the rhyming I loved how his books always rhymed or how he created words to make the book rhyme. As I grew older my interested in literature varied widely, but I really enjoy reading vampire love stories. My love for this genre started with the Twilight series by Stephanie Myers and since those books did so well, writes continued to make more vampire love stories. Thus, making...

My Writing Experience Analysis

...Like reading, writing is one of the most basic processes that is important for people to express themselves. Writing allows us to grow as individual and help the civilization to advance toward other levels. Since centuries it was been demonstrated that someone with the faculty to read and write has the basic tools to develop himself and reach whatever goal he propose to himself. Writing could be fun process, but not an easy one. I can confirm that trough personal experiences all my life long. I started to have interests in writing when I was around 13-15 years old. I was following older kids living in my neighborhood who were writing poetry to seduce girls. Due to that, I was initiated into the reading process to have enough background to...

My Writing: My Experience As A Writer

...I have positive experiences with writing because I read a lot and I think that reflects in my writing and makes it writing easier. One thing I have learned from reading many books is to have my writing authentic and unique because those are the writings that stick with you. I have written a research paper, persuasive essays, book reports, and a reflection paper. One of my mistakes in writing is that I don’t know how to stop. I used to write very long stories in elementary school and my teacher had told my parents that I ramble a lot in my writing. Ever since, I’ve tried to control that and I try to write clearly and concisely without making it too repetitive or redundant. I like when I can essentially “hear my voice” when I read my writing, which is why as much as I do respect and appreciate criticism on my papers, sometimes I find it hard to change my writing because I want it to sound the most like me....

My Experience And Improvement In Writing

...Over the years my experience and improvement in writing has cultivated me into a person I believe would prosper in the Humanities program. The ability to write well and in a way that is coherent to those reading your work is an important skill no matter what field. As I interact with my fellow students I make sure to be an effective critic and listener. This would not only help my peers work but my own writing as well as I am paying attention to techniques as well as errors. As I am interacting with classmates as well as working on my own separate assignment I am improving my oral and written communication. I feel my writing has improved due to the help of the writing process and all the writing assignments I experienced. I was able utilized each of these components this semester. At first, I was very nervous due to I have never written an essay before. I did not even know where to begin. I struggled during the whole process of writing the essay. My biggest problem of all was putting my thoughts in order so I could make sense of what I wanted to say. I brainstorm for days trying to figure out a topic. With the help of the eLearning text information on module 2, how to choose a topic and develop a working thesis I was able to come up with a topic. A Personal Reflection Of My Writing Experiences

...This is my writing experiences and history. I started with creative writing which I never completed and for school and then writing an essay on a subject which I just read a book on for homeschooling. When there was a deadline I always got it finished and as quick as possible and then making sure there is no grammar or spelling mistakes. My biggest weakness is that I procrastinate and will not sometimes finish a project. I will get anything done on time if there is a set deadline but otherwise will not usually get finished. My approach to English assignments is to get an idea, and then get it written or typed down, and then work on the grammar and spelling, and look for any missed punctuation. I spell much better than I did years ago from...

Essay About My Writing Experience

...My Writing experience: The Good The Bad and The Ugly I can recall a time when I had to write a paper for English Composition I. I was attending Ivy Tech Community College at that time. The professor asked the class to write a paper about our major, my major was Early Childhood Education. This experience I had at Ivy Tech was not my first when it came to writing a formal essay, but it was just as nerve wrecking as the first time. When I began writing formal essay papers, in high school, it was not easy for me. In the first part of this essay, I review my experience with writing in my childhood, then I will be talking about my terrifying writing experience in high school, and finally the years that have passed since I have not written any formal essays. In the second part of the paper, I describe my experience with Microsoft word, my experience with using MLA formatting style, and my experience using documentation in research papers. In my childhood, I have been state to state and attended...

Personal Narrative: My Experience With Writing

...I have, in the past, been called a perfectionist. My experience with writing revolves mostly around me trying my hardest to write something I'm happy with and then pretty quickly deleting it when I decide it’s not good enough. For example, this is my fourth time trying to write an opening paragraph, my third time writing just this sentence, and I only settled on the words “opening paragraph” after writing both “first paragraph” and “the beginning of this paper.” It’s not that I have an issue finding the words, I just can’t seem to put them in an order i like. Which is why I stay on the other side of writing. I’ve been reading since a really young age. My first books were mostly science based due to my parents trying to raise me to be as...

Reflecting on My Experiences with English and Writing!

...Growing up, I had always enjoyed reading and writing. English had never been a problem for me so much as math had been. I had a love for literature. I've always loved reading books. You'd have to pull me away just so I'd put one down. So you can imagine when my fourth grade teacher Ms. Lux said, “you possibly could be held back another year, because you're not performing well in English.” My heart had dropped within that moment. I felt as if I were a failure. I felt as if I, me, someone who had a love for English, was not good enough. I could not understand. I felt rejected. How could I, someone who had enjoyed reading so much, be told that I may not be going to the fifth grade, because of my English scores? I felt in every ounce of my bones that that accusation could not have been right. It was preposterous. She put me through a series of English tests. Testing my abilities from comprehension to grammar, I felt that that this was unfair. I felt that she was singling me out. For what reason I have no clue to this day. Now I had always been a well-behaved kid. I never got into much trouble during my youth years. From the moment I entered her classroom, I felt as If she had a personal vendetta against me. Why was this happening to me? I cried myself into one of the greatest stories I had ever read. It was of the most intriguing adventurous stories ever. Ten year old Moon Blake learns how to survive on his own after his beloved father “Pap” dies, leaving him to fend for himself...

What Is My Experience with Writing so Far?

...Reflective Essay 10/27/2013 What is my experience with writing so far? What is my experience with writing so far, well it starts with my songs, poems and short story all published in one form or another. I am in middle of writing one book and two screenplays; one screenplay is a miniseries and the other one is for a remake of a series, both are from the 90’s. I read a lot and watch TV and movies; I am a love fiction of all kinds. If I write without anything in the background I tend to be slower, so I write with the TV on so I have a noise in the background. Or I will listen to Pandora internet radio while writing. What do I think my greatest challenge is with the writing process; well I have to figure out just how to put the words on the paper. Now I have a program called dragon speak 12, which I use to get what I want down, because of my eye/hand disability. I have always had a problem writing notes and papers for my classes during school. How do I feel when I write, well I feel like I am doing something to better mine and my family’s life in the future. I cannot say that I feel nervous or confident, but I can say that I feel good when I write. It is like a part of my mind is taking over for the part that doesn’t like to work all the time. It is funny really, to sit down and start typing on one of my things and end up working on all three of them in about six hours. What tools will I need to grow as a writer, well I can see that my dragon speak 12 will be of great help...

Writing Compoaition

...Experiences as a writer. I have many experiences in writing throughout my twenty five years of life. These experiences were more like stepping stones within my life’s journey. There are three experiences in particular that stand out to me more than any other of the thousands of experiences I have had in a whole. These stepping stones range from my childhood, my time served during deployments, and my time of service in the army. One of my very first distinct experiences in writing started in my childhood. Being born and raised in a Hispanic country it was very challenging to learn the English language. My mother pushed me very hard and taught me English through writing. Thinking in Spanish and writing in English not only helped my writing but also helped me adopt my new language. As years went by my writing matured and I became proficient in the English language. My proficiencies in writing English became detrimental in reference to my childhood studies. My studies as a child were not the typical studies of an average student. I was raised in a Christian curriculum home school setting. My parents used to host bible studies in our home and sometimes my dad would make me write the study for the class he was going to give. That time of my life was very challenging but my dad always pointed me in the right direction. Once I became fluent in writing in English, It became my main source of communication when corresponding to my loved ones from Iraq during my deployment. Never thought...

Experience as a Writer

...Essay 1 Writing Experiences My Writing Experiences 101 Ebony Harris Freshman Composition 1010-004 Cherrlyn Eller 2/6/2012 My Writing Experiences 101 Writing can be an intimidating task if you are not equipped with the knowledge and techniques to write a successful well-structured paper. More importantly in order to excel at any craft it takes practice and critique to make anyone an established writer. As an economics major and accounting minor, formal papers, essays and exerts are expected of me to write. These types of papers include research working papers that illustrate results based around a thesis. Through my college career I’ve had a lot of experience writing working papers , as well as evaluation papers based off of sample working papers I’ve read and expressed my stance. In this essay I will illustrate what experiences I’ve had in the past with writing and highlight any strengths and weaknesses I’ve experienced in each area. In many of my economic courses a lot of our topics of discussion were based on theory and evidence to support a writer’s research. For instance my instructor Alexander Padilla challenged his classes to read many working papers and write what our thoughts and educated opinions concerning the publications were. A lot of times he challenged our intellect by discussing more controversial subjects which initially were not in my comfort zone but highlighted many social phenomena’s our society faces today. For instance we read an article published...

...Running head: Experiences as a Writer-Revised 1 Experiences as a Writer Keisha Rountree-Haskins Writing Fundamentals Colleen Colby February 8, 2013 Experiences as a Writer I write emails daily at work for the State of Georgia, Department of Medicaid. Most of the emails are to case workers and supervisors regarding our clients. Writing emails are the most opportunities that I get to write. Our clients are members with Medicaid. Because of the nature of my work, my emails have to be very professional. And on my job, unclear emails cause confusion and delays. A well-written email makes it easy for the recipient to understand and act on its message. I do not have a lot of experience as a writer. Writing is not something that I enjoy. I enjoy conversing more than writing. My concerns with writing are learning how to put my thoughts in writing. Proofreading is also something that I need to work as a writer. I need to increase my vocabulary as well. Lastly, I think I need a lot of help with writing essays and research papers. A good experience from writing was when I was in high school and writing a book report. I had to write a book report on The Scarlett Letter. I have always struggled with writing papers and it took me forever to write the report. I was so proud of myself because I received a grade of an A+. Writing emails is my most frequent writing experience. One of my bad experiences was when...
