My Writing: My Experience As A Writer

I have positive experiences with writing because I read a lot and I think that reflects in my writing and makes it writing easier. One thing I have learned from reading many books is to have my writing authentic and unique because those are the writings that stick with you. I have written a research paper, persuasive essays, book reports, and a reflection paper. One of my mistakes in writing is that I don’t know how to stop. I used to write very long stories in elementary school and my teacher had told my parents that I ramble a lot in my writing. Ever since, I’ve tried to control that and I try to write clearly and concisely without making it too repetitive or redundant. I like when I can essentially “hear my voice” when I read my writing, which is why as much as I do respect and appreciate criticism on my papers, sometimes I find it hard to change my writing because I want it to sound the most like me. …show more content…
It was the longest essay I had written and I really liked how it was formal and informational. It was the first time I wrote something like that and it was hard at first because I wasn’t used to writing professional and formal essays. In my writing process, I first write my introduction, then write the body paragraphs. By the time I’m done with them, they’ll be very long and not exactly “quality writing”. Later, I polish the paragraphs by revising for clearer sentences and adding transition words. Finally, with the rest of the essay done, I’ll do my conclusion based on what I have

...Running head: Experiences as a Writer-Revised 1 Experiences as a Writer Keisha Rountree-Haskins Writing Fundamentals Colleen Colby February 8, 2013 Experiences as a Writer I write emails daily at work for the State of Georgia, Department of Medicaid. Most of the emails are to case workers and supervisors regarding our clients. Writing emails are the most opportunities that I get to write. Our clients are members with Medicaid. Because of the nature of my work, my emails have to be very professional. And on my job, unclear emails cause confusion and delays. A well-written email makes it easy for the recipient to understand and act on its message. I do not have a lot of experience as a writer. Writing is not something that I enjoy. I enjoy conversing more than writing. My concerns with writing are learning how to put my thoughts in writing. Proofreading is also something that I need to work as a writer. I need to increase my vocabulary as well. Lastly, I think I need a lot of help with writing essays and research papers. A good experience from writing was when I was in high school and writing a book report. I had to write a book report on The Scarlett Letter. I have always struggled with writing papers and it took me forever to write the report. I was so proud of myself because I received a grade of an A+. Writing emails is my most frequent writing experience. One of my bad experiences was when...

Experience as a Writer

...Experiences as a Writer Writing can be a good or bad experience; it all depends on the writer. People who are good writers have fewer problems than those who have trouble writing out their thoughts. I believe those who have a great mind of imagination are some of the best writers. My experiences in writing have always been a minimal, because writing is a difficult process for me. The problem I have with writing is expressing my ideas and thought in a concise and coherent manner. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendous at writing essays, research papers, and other writing assignments without very little to no errors. I hope to be a well-rounded writer when I complete this course. I begin writing when I was in the first grade, when my teacher showed me how to put words together to form sentences. The second grade is where I was showed how to write simple sentences. I was also shown how to correctly write sentences so that didn’t have any run-ons or fragments, on complete sentences. Eventually when I reached middle school I was able to write a complete paragraph, and term paper. Everything I have learned in school has helped me to be able to write resumes, reports at work, and other important things in my adult life. It is very important that my resumes and reports are written correctly, and my words are professional. It has helped me to elaborate and point out the important in my resumes...

Experiences as a Writer

...My Experiences as a Writer Sadie Brown ENG.090 Dr. L. Dennis Strayer University December 7, 2011 My Experiences as a Writer I experienced writing at the age of 3, scribbling and doodling, and then I began to write my name. By the time I reached grade school was the first time I wrote an essay. I have written other things such as poems and a couple of personal letters. Since then, it’s been difficult to write because I no longer have inspiration. I like to write but have little enjoyment doing so; I guess you can say I lost my muse. Nowadays I basically just write little notes to myself and maybe a love letter from time to time, not giving them to anyone in particular. Other than that I really don’t do much writing anymore. Nothing seems to inspire me. My concerns as a writer is that I may not be as good as I think. I feel that I will fail and get rejected. I know rejection is a hard pill for anyone to swallow. Writing is good in many ways because you can express yourself, expand your vocabulary and spelling, and use your imagination. Writing can be enjoyable and frustrating at times. It doesn’t take much to become a writer. All you have to do is start writing. Let the pencil take you away in exploring your thoughts on paper. These are just a few experiences I’ve had as a writer. I really can’t say what good experience I’ve had as a writer other than the writing I do personally that only I can see and judge. My bad experiences seem to...

...VMy Writing While Growing Up I grew up in a family of writers. My parents are both writers. My dad was an editor-in-chief at a major internet magazine while I was growing up. While I was a young child, both my parents owned and contributed to a programming magazine. I was always encouraged to write as a child. My parents would always help me edit and change my writings in school. Even my brother has always been a writer. He was always telling stories growing up. When he was in middle school he even wrote a book. Growing up in a supportive family of writers has given me a negative outlook on writing which has made me the writer I am today. Since I can remember, I have always been told I am a good writer yet for some reason I have always fought the writing process. English was one of my worst subjects in high school. Yes, it is my native language, but the reading part is not my problem. Writing the essays was my biggest challenge. Starting an essay has always been the hardest part for me. I was taught to always start at the beginning and finish with the end. Later people told me I could write the beginning last, but I was stubborn. I had to write it first. This hindered me. I would usually wait until the last minute because I did not know where to begin. Procrastinating has always been my fall back when writing. Even now, I am writing this essay on Sunday at 2:30pm the day it’s due. My parents would never push me to write, they would ask the usual parental question of, “Did...

Connecting Reading to Service

...automatically connects it with reading and writing. Literacy, to me, is much more than that. Literacy is the “ability to read and write”, but I believe that literacy is a way to grow, discover, and express oneself. My ideal vision of literacy instruction would be to allow students to use reading and writing as a gateway to self-expression. Literacy can be used to grow not only as a person, but as a well-developed writer. A constraint to my vision of literacy would be the restricting mindset instructors enforce on their students. Students have been expected to write solely based on the “rules” taught by their teachers throughout their education. If students do not comply with these “rules”, they are punished with a bad grade. I strongly believe that students write in fear of bad markings and in fear of not pleasing their instructors’ needs. As students advance through the education system, they must advance in their writing skills as well. University students should be able to read and write at a higher level. High school and college instructors must be open to reason and consider that being so demanding with their criteria will only cause students to write at basic level. Instructors that have a stern grading policy are only keeping their students skills at a standstill. Some concerns with my vision of literacy would be that it can cause instructors to hold back on their grading’s, which could cause students to not improve or slack off. My vision is not to hold back instructors...

Cause and Effect Essay

...Essay: Good Writer Writing is a mastery that may take years to develop. As one matures from childhood, they develop diverse communication skills, such as talking, listening, and writing. Writing is an integral skill that enables a person articulate their ideas in a commonsensical manner. Although I am not a good writer, as I would like to be, I have made tremendous improvements over the years. Several factors have influenced my writing ability to the level I have reached currently. My family background and school experience presented me with an opportunity to become an exceptional writer, while social influences had an insignificant effect in bettering my skills. Primarily, my family background has a significant effect in my mastery of writing. I saw people writing at home, as my parents read and wrote frequently. My parents have an inherent respect and value for writing. They regularly expressed a love for writing and implored us to read and write as much as possible. We had a small book library at our home, comprising of newspapers, novels, and research books. Home libraries have a significant influence on development of an interest in reading and writing (Bonci, 2010). Initially, I only read magazines, but it was only after I started reading longer books with chapters, that I developed the skill to organize ideas. For that reason, my family background has had a significant effect in the writing skills. In addition, my school experience was prominent...

It is about how these repeated actions developed who I am as a writer, along with the quality of my work. In addition, I was able to fully connect with the literature I read, resulting in the reveal a new writer’s personality within me. Experiences as a Writer

...Experiences as a writer My experience as a writer is very limted. As a mechanic and seeing that this is my first time attending college I do not have much experience. The only time have to dedicate to writing is when I’m off from work. I am usually writing about my feelings for my loved ones in a journal. When at work I am required to write reports on the equipment and the functions of the machines. At school I am allowed to expand my knowledge for writing. My feelings towards writing are mixed. On one hand I enjoy writing but, because of my lack of knowledge and my busy schedule I do not have time to fully dedicated myself to it. To me in order to write u have to have a feeling towards it, and truly understand what you are doing. I believe that you cannot simply jump into writing it has to be learned over time and practice in order to become a good writer. My experience from writing comes from my journal entries that I try to write in every day. I believe that is going to help me become more adjusted to writing in a class room. My bad experiences with writing come from when I was in high school. I was not a very good writer and it showed in my grades. I do believe it’s because of I lacked the passion to write. So that taught me that whenever I pick a topic to write about it has to be sometime that I could relate to as closely as...

I have not enrolled in any business classes at the moment but this is an aspect am considering to engage in so that I could increase chances to get a management position within the information technology sector. As a computer scientist, my professional objective involves contributing to the development of software and hardware that could reduce security risks. However in order to achieve this long-term professional objective of my career, I look forward upon the completion of my studies with admirable grades. My long –term professional objective of creating security within the information technology sector coincides with my goal for this writing course. In development of computer programs, there is a lot of creativity that is required just like what is highlighted in most writing courses. Personal writing experience in comparison to the process approach I have handled writing in my previous experiences. This has involved writing of term papers and assignments. In this form of writing, I noticed that what is required is objectivity. In such forms of writing, one is supposed to concentrate on facts that exist in theories and concepts. Unless it is asked by the tutor, writers of such papers are supposed to be objective. I found that this form of writing to be so rigid because one is not supposed to give his personal views. Considering...

A Blooming Flower

...This goes for writing as well. Most of us are not born great writers. It takes failure, after failure, after failure and a few triumphs along the way. It takes analyzing piece after another in order to find your strengths and weaknesses in writing. These things are essential in order to know who you are as a writer. As of right now I am not a very big fan of writing, especially compared to the writer that I used to be. I let my writing ability dwindle. This partly is due to the death that recently occurred in my family. My Uncle Primo, a great influence on my writing, took his life a month and a half ago. This loss took away my passion for writing. Often times I would text my uncle and share my pieces, anxious about the feedback I waited to come. The fact that I couldn’t hear his input on the thoughts I jotted down killed me softly, and I just have not had the desire to write the way I used to ever since. Writing is something that always interested me, even as a child. Ever since I was a little kid, I was apparently very skilled in telling the most outrageous fibs. I guess because of my vivid imagination, my dad told me I would be a great writer one day. He probably said it to be funny, but as a little kid any words from my parents were equivalent to the Bill of Rights in my eyes. In the past I often found myself writing frequently.Whether it be on a rainy day or a day full of sunshine accompanied by beautiful breeze, I was somewhere in the background writing. I often wrote...

Experiences as a Writer

...My Experiences as a Writer Thus, I wrote about my life, the summer vacations or silly, imaginary things. I felt intimidated by the prospect of having to fill a page as much as by the endlessness of those first minutes I needed to find a start over than, “Once upon a time.” I like to write. My first experience as a writer started in elementary, around age 12 when I wrote a story. Every now and then, during English class, we were told to write. As I recall, the assignment mostly was to “write about anything” which was very exciting. My Aunt Carol helped me plans ideas for my story. Then, we sat to write down what we had processed. My story was coming together very well. My story was a great, it was about a haunted house out in the country. This is where my writing took off. When I received my paper back from the teacher, she gave me an A on my story. Everyone in my family was so happy for me. My experience as a writer has been extensive. Currently, one writes extensively for school purposes, personal, and as a hobby. For example, I write for my online English and Math classes, whether its discussion threads, questions or essays. One of my experiences that has been bothering me inside since I was a child, it was the sex abuse I encountered as a child. Like many of us, if sex abuse has not happened to you, sex abuse is an ugly thing for a child to go through. Kids at school found out, and started making fun of me. That to me was the...

Personal Narrative: Myself As A Writer

...What has shaped you as a writer? This question was challenging for me to answer. When asked questions like this I have always had a hard time answering them. I know what my strengths and weaknesses are but to answer the who are you questions will always be challenging. I believe people have different experiences throughout one's lifetime and these experiences are what contribute to who they are. People continue to change and evolve ultimately becoming different versions of themselves. I have never considered myself to be a great writer and with time, this opinion has not changed. I was raised in a small town and educated in an even smaller school. Being educated in a small school there are limited resources, and this is something I believe has impacted me. I have always lacked the confidence in myself and this is one of my weaknesses. This weakness has impacted me as a writer. I have always struggled with the proper use of grammar and to this day continue to struggle. This challenge started when I was younger. As a child and teenager, you are discovering who you are and are very impressionable. When a teacher or peer talks negatively about something such as your writing ability this can impact your confidence....

Prewriting Strategies

...Section Number 14 Writing Exercise 1: Pre-Writing/Invention Strategies Gordon’s Pre-Writing Experience My Pre-Writing Experience When writing an essay, it is important to organize your thoughts in a meaningful way. The purpose of the essay is to examine and reflect on the effects and experience of the prewriting strategies that I used for week two discussion board on finding a career. The prewriting strategies discussed in this essay are brainstorming, questioning, and freewriting. I will also explain which strategies were the most effective to me, how they were effective, and why they were effective. I will also include an explanation about which strategy was least effective, and how and why it was ineffective. Prewriting is the first and most important step in the writing process. Prewriting is a technique that is used to gather information and put it on paper about what the writer is going to write about. This technique is used as a guideline to strategically give the writer ideas and to keep the writer focused when writing. When beginning an essay, my first strategy is to jot down all of my thoughts on the topic, brainstorm. By taking a few minutes to record my thoughts, I can determine if I will generate enough thoughts to support the topic. The process was easy and painless because I was able to list my ideas without worrying about spelling, grammar, or connecting my thoughts into complete sentences. When writing, I usually brainstorm my ideas and then group...

General Essay

...Assignment 1.1 Experiences as a Writer Emily Ramage ENG090 Writing Fundamentals Writing for me would be labeled as difficult. Considering that I haven’t had to write an actual paper since grade school, writing is not a part of my everyday life. Being a professional cosmetologist I’m not given the opportunity to write while on the job. The most I write at work would be the clients name and there service requested. I don’t have to write notes there; all my focus is on hair. With the way technology is today, most of my “personal” writing is done through text. I wasn’t the type of person that kept a journal. I found myself being able to vent more when it’s just freelance. With the iPhone the note pad is my best friend. Not checking for spelling or grammatical error would be the type of writing that I’m used to. Making sure every T is crossed and every I is dotted is something that never crosses my mind while freelancing. Being a college student, I try to write as much as possible. I now keep a notepad in my purse and jot down anything that comes to mind. I still find that the most writing that I do outside of my assignments is a grocery list. Nothing has really changed as far as me being a writer. I write because I have to not because I want to. Not writing for a long time truly shows my roughness. Starting this paper would be classified as my bad experience as a writer. I wasn’t clear on where to start because I don’t write often. I tried to jot down my thoughts, but...
