A database management system (DBMS) “creates, reads, updates, and deletes data in a database while controlling access and security” (Baltzan, 2015, p.92). The database management system that I have decided to write about is MySQL. SQL stands for structured query language which “asks users to write lines of code to answer questions against a database” (Baltzan, 2015, p.92). The company that makes and distributes the system is Oracle Corporation.

Oracle Corporation is a worldwide computer technology corporation that was founded on July 16, 1977 in Santa Clara, California by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates. The headquarters are located in Redwood City, California and focuses on increasing and selling computer hardware systems and enterprise software products but mostly its own brands of database management systems. Oracle also builds tools for database development and systems of middle-tier software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and supply chain management (SCM) software.
In this article “DBA and Developer Guide to MySQL 5.6”, talks about the new development of MySQL on how it is much better and that it has improved and just explaining more about its improvement. It has better performance and scalability, better application availability with online DDL/Schema, and better developer agility with NoSQL Access with Memcached API to InnoDB. It has improved in replication for high performance, self-healing, distributed deployments, improved performance Schema for better instrumentation, improved security for worry-free application deployments, improved InnoDB storage engine for better transactional throughout, and improved Optimizer for better query execution times and diagnostics.

MySQL’s strengths are speed, consistency, low system resource requirements, scalability, and free or low-cost licensing. MySQL weaknesses are lack of certain SQL features, lack of thorough testing certain platforms, and difficulty of working with the source code. Some reasons why you should buy it for your company is when it comes to having a filing system size, MySQL can help reduce filing time by no more looking through drawers in cabinets to add a new record and you just having to give it to the filing system and let it put the record in the right place. Another reason is help with reducing retrieval time so no more searching through each one yourself to find the ones containing the information. Simultaneous multiple user access to records so now more users can access the record at the same time and flexible retrieval order which can tell the filing system to pull out records sorted in any order you like are more reasons why you should buy it for your company. ...YFOSBAPP Database A database is information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select pieces of data. You can think of it as an electronic filing system. A database is an organized collection of data. It is the collection of schemas, tables, queries, reports, views and other objects. Data Integration Data integration involves combining data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view of these data. This process becomes significant in a variety of situations, which include both commercial (when two similar companies need to merge their databases) and scientific (combining research results from different bioinformatics repositories, for example) domains. Data integration appears with increasing frequency as the volume and the need to share existing data explodes. It has become the focus of extensive theoretical work, and numerous open problems remain Existing DBMSs provide various functions that allow management of a database and its data which can be classified into four main functional groups:  Data definition – Creation, modification and removal of definitions that define the organization of the data.  Update – Insertion, modification, and deletion of the actual data.  Retrieval – Providing information in a form directly usable or for further processing by other applications. The retrieved data may be made available in a form basically the same as it is stored in the database or in a......

...Student Database Management System Ajay Shankar Bidyarthy , Abhishek Kumar b.ajay@iitg.ernet.in kumar.ak@iitg.ernet.in November 13, 2012 Abstract: An organized and systematic office solution is essential for all universities and organizations. There are many departments of administration for the maintenance of college information and student databases in any institution. All these departments provide various records regarding students. Most of these track records need to maintain information about the students. This information could be the general details like student name, address, performance, attendance etc or specific information related to departments like collection of data. All the modules in college administration are interdependent. They are maintained manually. So they need to be automated and centralized as, Information from one module will be needed by other modules. For example when a student needs his course completion certificate it needs to check many details about the student like his name, reg number, year of study, exams he attended and many other details. So it needs to contact all the modules that are office, department and examination and result of students. With that in mind, we overhauled the existing Student Database Management System and made necessary improvement to streamline the processes. Administrators using the system will find that the process of recording and retrieving students information and managing their classes,......

Benefits of Mysql Carrier Grade Edition for

...------------------------------------------------- Benefits of MySQL Carrier Grade Edition for Subscriber Databases * Standards Based, Open Source database allows vendors and users of subscriber data management solutions to easily integrate their applications with MySQL Carrier Grade Edition using their preferred database-independent Subscriber API, e.g., LDAP, SQL, C++, Java, HTTP, etc. * High Performance with a Shared-Nothing, Distributed Database that provides realtime access to in-memory subscriber data with just a few milliseconds latency for reads and writes, and can be scaled out by adding additional resources or by storing data on disk. * 99.999% Availability achieved by synchronously replicating in-memory data across active nodes in the cluster with recovery data being asynchronously written to disk, and by optionally “geo”-replicating data off-site to a remote active or standby cluster. * Self-Healing of data nodes with sub-second fail-over times, and an optimized node recovery protocol that automatically re-synchronizes data across re-starting data nodes. Geo-replication enables self-healing across dispersed sites, where the system can continue functioning correctly in the event of site failure. * Distribution-Awareness in a Shared-Nothing Database is enabled in MySQL Cluster with the partitioning of tables by subscriber identifiers, and by using those identifiers when accessing subscriber data to ensure that reads/writes are localized to the......

Web 407 Week 2

...Web 407 Week 3 Database Paper In the business world, most people will find a need for a database software program to store or house data pertaining to their business. There are however, multiple things to consider before one makes their final choice on what software they will be using. A few things that should be addressed are the type of software desired, either open-source or propriety, and what characteristics of the database meets the company’s needs. There are two basic types of database programs people can choose from when deciding what they want for their small business, an open-source database or a propriety one. While both of these are similar, they still have their advantages and disadvantages. First, consider what an open-source program is. The term open-source means exactly what it sounds like; the source code for the software is completely open and free to the public. Some advantages that come with this are the fact there is no upfront costs when it comes to obtaining the database program. While this sounds great, one needs to consider the tools the business has at its disposal. If you do not have the people to manage the databases and run them, then more employees must be hired in order to support the system. This can lead to more cost in the long run. So the fact that it’s free can also be a disadvantage. Another advantage to open-source database systems is a lot of them have a huge following such as MYSQL. MYSQL is database that is designed to use......

Database Concepts

...Database Concepts David Emersion DBM380 6/29/2015 Wade Fergus Database Concepts In an age when information is power, each business in the market place must make use of every tool at its disposal. Efficiency is the hallmark of any successful business. For a business to be efficient it must be the master of managing its own information. Time is money, and using an ineffective information management system is simply money down the drain. Quick access to accurate information is crucial to an organization’s success. Fortunately, businesses have a powerful weapon at their disposal – databases. Database Systems Every organization from small non-profit teams up to huge corporations supporting millions of customers must keep records of different types of data. These data can vary from inventory prices, to payroll, to medical records, and everything in between. The common challenges that these organizations face is keeping the data accurate, relatively easy to use, and secure. The solution to this problem is to use a database that fits the needs of the organization. A database is a system that houses data and metadata. Metadata is the information about the data and includes “information such as the name of each data element, the type of values (numeric, dates, or text) stored on each data element, and whether the data element can be left empty” (Coronel, Morris, & Rob, 2013, p. 7). A database system......

Implementing Physical Design

...After a brief research of the latest versions of the following database management systems (DBMSs) on the market: Oracle 11G, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and IBM DB2. I found the following information about each DBMS’s. Oracle 11G The biggest advantage Oracle 11G has is that it can help you create customized database applications. Instead of getting a standardized database program out of the box, you get a program that can be customized to fit your needs. This makes it possible to create a database that only has the features you need. Another advantage is Data Mining. It makes it possible to find relationships in data that would otherwise be difficult to find on your own. As good as the above sounds it also comes with a couple of BIG disadvantages. The biggest would be the cost, if you plan on using the program on multiple computers, you will need to buy licenses for each computer. If you plan on making the software available on many computers, these costs can really add up. Another big disadvantage is it comes with a learning curve; this is not something that you can pick up in a short period of time. Microsoft SQL Server MS SQL Server is a Client-server relational database system, with no UI development tools built in. Some of it advantages are, Maintenance its has lots of tools for maintenance, can do most of it with users in DB. It is user friendly, great security, it minimizes redundancy, and it is very consistent. It also works great on an enterprise scale it is......
