Workshop 1: Children and Nutrition
The aim of this assignment is to gain knowledge and understand of the diet and lifestyle of an elementary age child within our area. In order to gain an understanding of a childs diet and lifestyle, with the consent of his parents, I have interviewed a eight year old boy. I presented the child with some questions, below are the questions and answers provided;
Question (Q); What do you eat at school for lunch and snacks?
Answer (A); Today I had peperoni pizza and an apple.
Q; What did you have for last night for dinner?
A; I think I had pizza.
Q; Do you eat breakfast before school?
A; Yeah, Cheerios.
Q; How much exercise you do in a day?
A; One hour a day, running around at school and after school soccer. …show more content…
A; I eat candy, play soccer and walk daddy’s dog.
Q; Do you cook? If so, tell me a something about your cooking.
A; I help my mom sometimes. I pretend I am on a TV show cooking and make my mom tasty food.
Q; What do you find hard at school? Maybe homework, sitting for too long.
A; Mathematics because its too hard and I do not like it.
Q; What are your biggest challenges at home?
A; Keeping calm when mom tells me off.
Q; What is your favorite food?
A; Nachos.
Q; What is your favorite TV show?
A; The Regular show.
Q; What is your favorite form of exercise?
A; Soccer.
Q; What do you need to have a great day?
A; Candy.
Q; What makes you happy?
A; Candy and You Tube.
Q; What do you think defines a healthy diet?
A; Five a day and protein.
This was an interesting experience, I was able to get an insight into an eight year olds thoughts and understanding on food. In regards to this eight year olds diet, I have formulated a report card to identify how his diet related to the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) guidelines.
Breakfast: Cup of Cheerios with 1 Cup Milk.
Lunch: Mini Peperoni Pizza.
