...Community art As I walk around my town and neighboring town, I find myself looking at all the older style buildings that are in great shape after all these years. I have come across a very large Victorian style house that has caught my eye numerous times while driving by. There is a stone outside with the house’s history stamped on it. This house was built in 1888 by the founder of Alma, MI. His name was Almy Wright. This was a mansion that he had built for his family. This 2 story wood structure is blue in color now and obviously has been repainted over the years. It has maroon colored trim around the window and eves. Picture, if you will, a huge mansion that sits in the center of town. This mansion has a big covered front porch on the front and has a Victorian classic feel. Windows are still the old wood sash style. I think the owner’s medium was that of what was available in those days. We have the Pine River that flows through the area that brought logs from Saginaw to Alma. Due to the other houses around this one being about the same, others built theirs in his likeness, or media. This house was one of the first built in the city and served as a home for the Wright Family. It was constructed by Detroit Architecture Firm and is still a very important house for the community. This house struck my eye for a few reasons. It’s a very large structure that is one of the oldest houses in Alma and that I am very interested in the Victorian style houses. ...

Direct Care Assessment

...Direct Care Experience Lead-Based Paint Poisoning This writer met with a neighborhood friend who has a 3-month old little boy named, Joshua Edward. This mother, Nicole, is a 19 year old, Caucasian, single mother who works full time at a grocery store as a clerk and attends a local community college with the intent of becoming a teacher. She will be entering her junior year of college this coming fall. Nicole was very interested in the information presented in the pamphlet regarding lead-based paint poisoning. She became very concerned due to the fact she is renting half of an older house and is unsure about how old this home is and if lead-based pain has been utilized. Nicole stated she would be making contact with her landlord the next day to further determine if her concerns are warranted. She explained that when she moved to her current residence, her and her family cleaned the home thoroughly from top to bottom and was told then that the walls had been freshly painted prior to her moving in. She did not recall any chipped paint and was relieved to recall that Joshua’s crib was purchased new for her prior to his birth from her parents. Nicole provided feedback after reading the pamphlet that included understanding and insight into how this type of poisoning occurs, how to prevent, and resources to further explore the subject. This writer allowed Nicole to utilize her IPad to review the websites and resources mentioned in the pamphlet to allow her to...

Paint My Nails

...Analyzing Poem At first the only aspect that really stood out to me in the poem, I Shall Paint My Nails Red, was the acts of a woman talking about feminine things that woman like to do to change up their appearance. After thoroughly analyzing this poem I came to the realization that it was much deeper than that. Every line of this poem is a distinct statement filled with self-expression and confidence. I Shall Paint My Nails Red by Carole Satyamurti, takes the simple act of painting your nails and shows the meaning behind it. This poem hits home to me because painting my nails is something I enjoy doing with my grandmother. My grandmother has never gone a day without having her nails painted, and after reading this poem I understand why. To me, womanism is the main theme that Satyamurti is trying to portray in this poem and it is being shown through beauty, strength, and passion. Beauty can represent a numerous amount of things, and in this poem Satyamurti does a remarkable job at capturing the true meaning of beauty. “Because I am proud of my hands” (Satyamurti 2), after I broke this poem down piece by piece, the imagery in this line caught my eye. I relate the pride she takes in her hands after painting them to my grandmother and how I never see her go a day without having her nails painted. Although painting your nails is a simple thing, it makes you feel good about yourself. My grandmother walks with confidence every day and though it may not be just because of her nails...

Study on Use of Chlorinated Rubber Paints for Machinery Bilges

...USE OF CHLORINATED RUBBER PAINT FOR MACHINERY BILGES 1. Introduction:- Maintenance of machinery bilges has always been a challenge to the maintainer due to poor accessibility and unavoidable effects of running machinery such as spillage of cooling sea water, spillage of fuel, spillage of lub oil, high ambient temperature and drainage of hot water below feed quality (in case of steam driven machinery). Coal tar epoxy paint (CTE) has been in use in these bilges. However the expected life of CTE could not be achieved, in many cases, as stringent surface preparation standards (Grit blasting to Sa 2.5) specified for the paint system could not be achieved prior to application of CTE. Creating sufficient accessibility to undertake grit blasting in machinery bilges has also been found to be extremely demanding in terms of time and effort, even during an MR when the engine bearers are thoroughly surveyed. Hence it can be seen that the ideal paint scheme, for machinery bilges, would be one which can accept the standard of surface preparation achievable by means of manual methods, in poor accessibility conditions, typical of a machinery compartment, often with the vessel afloat. Paucity of time required for boxing up of refitted machinery, critical for undocking, often restricts the possibility of undertaking painting in machinery bilges during the docked time. Chlorinated rubber based paint applied by brush has been tried out as an alternative paint system. This paper is a report...

...Bottom paints and bottom paints for boats Bottom paint is a covering applied to the lowermost point of a ship (hull) so as to get rid of growing organisms that may attach to the boat especially at the lower parts or to protect the metallic parts of the hull from corrosion. This is done to enhance the vessel's performance and sturdiness. Another added advantage is the improved contact between a free flow mass of water and the hull of a speedy boat enabling the boat to sail at a much faster speed. Modern bottom paints are composed of biocides (chemical substance that hamper growth of marine organisms), organotin compounds and lethal copper. Types of bottom paints SPC (Self polishing copolymers). It contains a resin known as SPC Copolymer. The chemical substance reacts with salt water and the result is the discharge of biocides in the entire life span of the bottom paint. The reaction takes place at any circumstance provided the vessel is in contact with salt water. Controlled Solubility Copolymers These types of bottom paints are partly soluble in water meaning it wears down when water passes across the exterior of the paint. The thickness of the paint reduces at a controlled pace resulting in the release of fresh biocide at the surface of the paint during its active working period. Ablative bottom paints A type of bottom paint that wears away with time when in use hence reducing the preparation and preservation needed when applying more bottom paints...

...Line Art Tutorial Recommended for Intermediate Level Photoshop Users First up I’d like to ease your mind and let you know that you don’t need to know how to draw to complete this tutorial. It’s basically tracing, except that tracing is alot easier in Adobe Photoshop. Creating line art with this technique will take several hours to do a good job…if you want a tutorial that just applies a couple of filters, then this tutorial is not for you! You will need to know how to use the PEN TOOL for this tutorial. (If you don’t know how to use the pen tool complete the fast tutorial found HERE first). I suggest you read through the entire tutorial first, before you begin. 1. Preparing the Layers Open your photo in Photoshop. Rename the layer “original”. If your picture is quite dark you will need to lighten it a little. The reason for this is that we will be tracing over the photo in black so we need to be able to see the lines we are creating clearly. Adjust the Brighness of the photo Image >> Adjustments >> Brightness/Contrast… Duplicate the “original” layer. Rename this new layer “top”. Create two more new layers. Place them under the “top” layer. Fill the layer closest to the “original” layer white and rename it “background”. Leave the other layer transparent and rename it “line art” Turn the visibility OFF for the “background” and “top” layers.< Visibility ON for the “line art” and “original” layers and the “line art” layer is active. English Seminar

...ENGL1F91 Assignment week 2 It took several readings of 'The Dream of the Rood' for me to ascertain who the author was let alone the audience. The poem was very complex to my view in that the author seemed to paint multiple pictures. First the poem starts out from the view of the dreamer, later on it changes to a narrative from the cross itself. That made it more difficult for me to understand. I believe that in this poem the author wants the audience to feel many things, outrage over the injustice being primary. The author paints a picture for the audience so not as to elicit our pity but rather our sense of morality. The line 'Clearly this was no criminals gallows, but holy spirits were beholding it there, men on this earth, all that mighty creation' (P33, L20) intrigued me as I believe it was intended to do. The audience is supposed to see implicitly that the tree was not being used for a criminal but for someone holy, that it was being forced to take part in the death of an innocent man. I believe the role of the audience is to feel outraged and stand up against the injustice. The narration is almost that of a resigned story teller but it has the undertones of anger, like he wants the audience to feel his pain and anger. 'Then the warriors left me there standing, blood all over me, pierced everywhere with arrows.' (P34, L60), this line almost sounds like he wants the audience to understand...

...How To Pick Out A Paint Color For You A well chosen paint colors help to accentuate the most impressive features of your house and also to hide flaws in the design which may increase its appeal and market value . Many people find the task of choosing the best paint colors for their home very daunting. If you belong to this group here are some tips that could help to make your task easier: 1. Take into account the mood you want to create in the room you are painting. If you want a cool and relaxed atmosphere go for colors such as blue, green or yellow. For a sophisticated and exciting look use dramatic colors such as red or orange. Purple gives the room a romantic mood. 2. Borrow ideas from your neighbors. When choosing a color for your exteriors it is important to take into consideration the color of your neighbors' houses. You can go for uniformity or uniqueness. If you choose to make your house conspicuous ensure it doesn't clash with those of neighbors but it is also important to ensure that it is not an exact copy of a neighbor's paintwork. 3. When painting a room factor in the age of the occupant of that room. For a little child's nursery, bright and vivid colors are the norm but it is also important to take into consideration the temperament of your child. For a hyperactive child earthly colors can help to get them relaxed and calm. 4. Use light colors to produce an illusion of size. Painting a house with light colors on the outside makes it look larger...
