A day that was supposed to be fun turned into a night mare in a blink of an eye. I broke my ankle. My parents did not seem to believe me, so they just brushed it off and told me to stop over exaggerating.
It was April 22, 2009. I was at Kinsey Lauderdale’s 10th birthday party at the Skating Rink. I was eating a piece of pizza with nacho cheese on top and drinking a mystery drink when all of a sudden I slipped and fell. I was screaming hysterically, and Kinsey’s brother was just staring at me like I was crazy. I laid on the ground screaming for my mom while no one paid attention to me! I sat up and took my skates off, to find that my right ankle was swollen and turning black and blue. I called my mom after having to crawl what seemed like a mile to get my phone; I told her what had happened and she said, “I’ll be right there.” It seemed as if it took her and hour to get there. When my mom finally arrived I was crying, screaming, and acting like a hypochondriac, but I was actually in a lot of pain. My mom loads me up and takes me home, and I iced my ankle for a couple of hours. Later that night a friend asked me to go to the movies with her, so I acted as if I was all okay and begged my mom to go. She finally gave in to it. So I loaded up and went to the movies, still in a lot of pain. We get to Malco where the movie was showing, and the theater was packed so I had to use my crutches to climb up all these stairs. I am not very coordinated, which lead to me falling going up and down the stairs. Everyone is laughing at me at this point. We finally get to our seats, I keep telling my friend’s mom that my ankle is killing me. I need some type of medicine to ease the pain, but she keeps saying, ”You’re okay Micah, you are just over reacting.” She gave me four extra strength ibuprofen. I am surprised I didn’t over dose, but at that moment I didn’t care. The ibuprofen finally started to work after about 15 minutes, and I got to enjoy the movie.
Sunday, April 23, 2009. I woke up from staying at my friend Sloan’s house, and my ankle was purple, black, and blue and big around as a softball. I call my mom immediately, telling her what my ankle looked like. My mom comes and gets me. Takes me home so my dad could look at it. My parents are still telling me it’s just sprang, and I will be okay in a day or two. I rested the whole day, still complaining about my ankle. My mom finally gives in after listening to me scream and cry all day. Mom called the nurse that lives besides us to come look at it. Mrs. Wilson tells my mom that she needs to take me to the Emergency Room as soon as possible. I look at my mom and said, “See I told you so.” After all this time of me complaining my mom loads me up and takes me to the ER. I get out of the car at the hospital and a lady meets me with a wheel chair. I fall getting into the wheel chair because she did not lock the wheels. My mom is trying not to laugh and I am crying because I think my tail bone is also broken now. We get into the ER. They start taking x-rays of my ankle and 10 minutes later we find out, my ankle is broke in 5 places. Well that meant sugery.
Monday, April 24, 2009. I go into surgery. I was dreading this day! I just wanted to have a cast put on and move on, but of course nothing ever goes my way! I went into surgery at 6 o’clock in the morning, and I was the worst patient they had that day, I am sure. They could never get an IV in my arm, I was getting sick at the site of needles, and I was screaming to the top of my lungs. After about 20 minutes of fighting with me, they finally get me to sleep and that’s the last thing I remember. Surgery took about two hours. I woke up during those hours, they had to sedate me for the second time, which was a fight all over again. After having surgery I woke up in the recovery room to a women screaming at a nurse, my exact words to the lady was “Shut that shit up!” I was quite the patient to have that day.
After all of the blood, falls, and tears, I have two pins in my ankle. My parents have now learned that when I say I am hurt to listen. Having my ankle broke was the worst experience of my life.

...The best experience: Narrative When I was 7 years old, I had my best experience. I went on a holiday with my family, so it was very special for me. We went there by plane. It was so comfortable but a bit noisy. First, we went our hotel. It was a very big pool and it is located near the sea. On the first day, we didlots of different activities. I enjoyed very much. On the second day, I went to scuba-diving with my father. It was fascinating. At night, we went to one of the most famous restaurants in the region and had wonderful meals. We stayed there for a week. After one week, we returned to our home. It was the best memory of my childhood and I'll never forget my first holiday with my family. The worst experience: Narrative I went to the Emergency Room for the first time when I was eleven years old. When I was riding a bike in front of my grandmother's house, I tried to do a trick. I messed it up in the end and headed to the ground with my hands down. I fell hard on the ground, my left wrist was twisted the wrong way. At first it did not hurt at all, but a short time later when I looked at my warped and twisted ankles, sudden excruciating pain, my whole body was wrapped. Rolling around on the ground yelling and cussing in pain, my parents saw what happened and came running to my aid. After about ten minutes of yelling and screaming, I finally got up and held my wrist as I walked to the car. The whole way to the hospital the pain got worse and worse. Later I foound out the...

Blair Roundsquare: Summary

...left without even tasting the Cobbler. On the drive home, he flashed back to ten years ago and the first day he arrived in Wrongberight and how Clemmie Sue and Estelle Louise appeared out of the blue carrying a large cardboard box, filled to the brim with delicious home cooking. He contemplates their friendship and Clemmie Sue’s vivacious disposition and her tenacious spirit, and when he thinks of Estelle Louise, his heart swells with compassion. That evening while lounging by the pool, he decides to intervene on their behalf and set the record straight. Therefore, he stops working on his latest novel and immediately began to interviews the six people involved. Several months later, he sat down at his computer and wrote the following narrative in minute details explaining what truly happened on that fateful Saturday night. Wrongberight, by late Saturday afternoon, had already endured four straight days of intense rain and another torrential rainstorm hung low in the sky ready to unleash havoc on the town. Today, determination pushes Clemmie Sue, who stands 4 feet 3, and looks as if she weighs less than a hummingbird, to reach the home of her dearest friend Estelle Louise, before the ominous gray clouds rip a seam. With her foot heavy on the accelerator of her rusty Chevy pickup, which she keeps mobile with duct tape, Elmer’s glue, and a shout out to God, speeds down Millers Way, a narrow two-lane country road. Blair Roundsquare: A Short Story

...possesses less sense than the blessed Lord gave Johnny Homer’s jackass. In fact, this dent in her personality provides them with numerous opportunities to validate their mundane existence. Therefore, when they heard what transpired on Saturday night their wagging tongues, laced with mendacities, instantly, whisper her name during church service, Sunday morning. Blair Roundsquare, a longtime resident of Wrongberight and a writer of erotica novellas, attended church on Sunday and heard every word that the other parishioners uttered concerning Clemmie Sue. Since he and Clemmie Sue share an unbreakable bond, he took it upon himself to read Sheriff Macky Donothing’s report and interviewed all parties involved. Then wrote the following narrative in minute details explaining just what happened on that fateful Saturday night. ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT IN WRONGBERIGHT By BLAIR ROUNDSQUARE Wrongberight, by late Saturday afternoon, had already endured four straight days of intense rain and another torrential rainstorm hung low in the sky ready to unleash havoc on the town. Aesthetics of Representing Cultural Paradigms in Rushdie

...In the contemporary century where the world is metamorphosed to a global village, the concept of national culture and national literature is certainly belied. The World literature, today, simultaneously represents an important multicultural perspective within individual national literatures as well as more global perspective taking in the phenomena of transculturalism and diaspora confluence. Centripetal and centrifugal forces can be discerned as both antagonistic and complementary forces in cultural development. Raymond Williams develops a theory of relation between culture at large and cultural products like literature. Culture is manifested in human artifacts and activities such as music, literature, life-style, food, painting, sculpture, theatre and film. It can be said that arts and the world of science with their moral systems come to form culture. These are constantly in a spatio-temporal flux that renders an inexhaustible range of meanings and a catalogue of the elements. In this process of evolution a particular aspect dominates or fades off at some space-time coordinate. The pattern of human activity and the symbolic structures give such activities significance and importance. Rushdie, like other postcolonial writers not only reflects upon the political aspects of history but also deconstructs the interrelationships between history and individual to delve into the moral and psychological tensions of the native homeland. His novels are the fine example where ethics of...

Education in Australia is very different to where I come from; it requires selflearning and self-reflection for overall development and self-improvement. Obviously the word “self” is important in education in Australia and from this perspective learning has become so much more real and enjoyable. One of the main reasons to choose English Writing is to express my thoughts, opinions and arguments in writing which I have never been encouraged to do before. Over the course of study I have developed various skills learnt different literary techniques and increased my vocabulary. This course is a very good platform for me to prepare myself...

The Death of Freddie Gray

...Ethical Dilemma Week 8 The Death of Freddie Gray By Hope Schwegler May 4, 2015 Phil 2003 Principles of Ethics Professor Margaret De Alminana ‘On April 12, 2015, Freddie Gray, a 25 year old African American male, was arrested by the Baltimore Police Department. He had a known unethical character and had been involved in twenty criminal court cases, five of which were still active at the time of his death. He was due in court on a possession charge on April 24, 2015. Freddie Gray died on April 19, 2015, due to injuries to his spinal cord. On April 21, 2015, pending an investigation of incident, six Baltimore police officers were temporarily suspended with pay. On May 1, 2015, state prosecutors in Baltimore received a medical examiner’s report ruling Gray’s death as a homicide. Was it foul play that was intentional, gross negligence, or inflicted self harm by the prisoner? We identified “Rae’s first step in making a moral decision is to gather the facts.” Much of the other information had conflicting reports and statements. So what are the “ethical issues that Rae has for level two” in the model for making moral decisions? The formal charge filed by Office Garrett Miller accused Gray of violating statute 19 59 22, “unlawfully carry, possess, and sell a knife commonly called a switch blade knife, with an automatic spring or other device for opening and/or closing the blade within the limits of Baltimore City.” The prosecutor alleged that Gray’s arrest was unlawful...

...forced to almost single-handedly take care of his brothers, it builds and changes his personality and makes him far more responsible. When Anh’s uncles are put into a re-education camp, Anh’s father shows the leadership qualities and courage that he built over his childhood to free them from slavery. Chapter 1. From the start of the chapter, we can see the traits of an outsider, namely being a non-evident sense of belonging. When the communist guards were harassing the young lady; she was an outsider as she was being ostracised and segregated from the rest of the group in a nasty and threatening way. This was evidenced in the text from the quote “ ‘Lift up your trousers’ the guard demands. The girl lifts her black cotton pants to her ankles. ‘Lift them higher,’ he leers. ‘In fact take them off.’” From this quote, we can see that this person was an outsider momentarily as she was not safe in the eyes of the reader. There was no-one defending her nor was there anyone who was willing to take on this role. This was quickly rectified and the young woman was no longer an outsider but now had a close group around...
