I been playing ball for a really long time and Ilearned from my cousin I was on a basketball team with my best friend Cristal but in eighth grade when I first tried out i got moved up to play with the high school girls JV team. We always said that we are going to destroy all those other teams. We have a game in like 2 weeks so we have to practice everyday and try our hardest. Cristal and I practice at my house and my cousin was my coach we practice our defense, offense, and our shots mostly are dribbling because we definitely weren’t pro at it. We ran a lot every basket we missed was counted as suicide. Then we started to practice on are shots each of us had a minute of shooting and on that minute but i usually got like 7 and when it was Cristal …show more content…
Cristal would put all her strength into the chest pass so the ball can get to me , while i’m running from the half court line. As soon as we did chest passes we would practice our shot but coach would make us shoot 3’s and I would shoot 5 from the corner, then 10 from the middle, and then 5 from the other corner. After I shot 20 of my baskets, it would be Cristal turn to do the same. Last thing we practiced was our offense and defense. It was hard boxing out Cristal because she’s pretty big but i tried my fullest when coach says “we set” it meant that practice is over but not till we did are suicide. We had to run 16 suicides because we i missed 7 shot and Cristal missed 9 ugh how much i hated it. A week in a half later Our coach messaged us on facebook in a group chat we had that we named tigers will be undefeated! the message said Tomorrow there is practice for the big game we have tuesday , so be get ready don’t be nervous you girls got this what are we?!” and we all replied

Examples Of Narrative Essay About Basketball Game

...Everyone said we had an “easy ride to state,” but I wasn’t letting that get to my head. I tried my hardest to stay focused and get ready to play my game. Unfortunately, my nerves must have gotten to me, because I had an awful warm up. This only made me more anxious for the game to begin. My coach pulled me off to the side to try to ease my nerves and told me a few secrets about the opposing team, Osage. He was fired up. The only way he knew how to coach me was to shout. I couldn’t tell if my face was covered in his spit or my sweat. I dried my face off with my orange sweat towel and took the...

How To Write A Narrative Essay About My First Basketball

...My first basketball experience is a good memory, I remember when I first walked on the court. I was only five but for some reason I remember what happened, As I walked into the gym for my first practice I was scared. I didn’t know anybody and all the littler kids were screaming. I wanted to leave really bad because I was so nervous, since I was going to the school at the time I knew my way around a little bit. I ran away and I went down into the restrooms, I don’t know why I did because I was scared to be in there by myself more than to be up in the gym where everyone else was. I hid in a stall, and my dad came down the stairs to try to find me and he eventually did. He picked me up and took me back into the gym, he said we are not leaving until you participate in the practice....

17 Again

...17 Again By Burr Steers In this essay, I am going to analysis a moving image text through the film techniques and media theories I have learnt in this term. The film is called “17 again”, which is directed by Burr Steers and written by Jason Filardi. This movie is took place in USA and released in 10 April 2009. The budget of this movie is $20000000 US and the final gross is $64149837 US which is a great success. This story is taking about the main character-Mike O’Donnell ( Zac Efron) whose life didn't quite turn out how he wanted it to and wishes he could go back to high school and change it. He wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life. The genre of this film is comedy romance, which is a hybrid genre as I can find lots of signs and conventions in the movie. For examples, the kissing scenes and some silly reactions of the characters can be found in the movie. What’s more, the lighting in this film is high-key lighting which connotes the meaning of happiness and serenity. Moreover, the mode of address in this film is indirect to the audience which was used the third person angle to encode the meaning to the audience. On the other hand, I choose this movie because of few reasons. Firstly, I love the main character- Zac Efron very much. He has acted in many teenage romance films before, for instance, High School Musical 1, 2 and3. After I watched the High School Musical, I admire his out-looking and his acting skills. Therefore...

Biography

...Personal Narrative Essay 25 November 2015 The Greatest Man That’s Ever Lived Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Ronald Reagan. These are just some of the few men considered to be the greatest man that’s ever lived. When I think of the greatest man that ever lived I don’t think of those names. I think about my grandfather, Roberto Littaua, but I called him Lolo Bob. He died ten years ago, January 29, 2005, from a brain tumor in the Philippines. That was a tragedy for my family and I, especially for me because I was still young, and I could have done so much more with him. A memory I remember was how he would smile whenever he saw me at my happiest times like one Christmas day when I was playing with a new toy I got, as he sat in his rocking chair, and just smiled. If I recall clearly, the toy I was playing with was a Redbox Semi-Truck Goodyear toy that would carry 40 cars, with 20 cars on each side of the truck. I would drag the truck around, and even grab the cars off the truck. Lolo Bob didn’t really say much because he was not much of a talker, but I remember clearly how he looked like. He was dark skinned, bald headed, but often had a wig on, and roughly 5’10”. That was a good time to live through. So what is the other memory I remember? Well that’s simple. The time when he had taught my brother and I how to play basketball. Basketball is a big thing that runs on both sides of my parents’ family. First, it was Lolo Bob who played basketball, and...

Title Ix Paper

...greatly debated and argued. While it is proven fact that it was tremendously successful at providing women far greater opportunities both in sports and outside of sports, the topic of how it is negatively affecting men’s sport is often debated. The five articles that I gathered advocate for Title IX. They express its positive impacts through narrative accounts and personal experiences of well-known female athletes who prospered due to Title IX not just in sports, but in their educational and professional careers. They also disprove the myths commonly associated with Title IX that lack evidence about how it is responsible for negatively affecting men’s sport opportunities and potentially ruining the programs currently in existence. Title IX is generally associated with women’s opportunity in sports to the point where its other positive implications tend to be forgotten. Title IX isn’t just about providing an opportunity for women to participate in sports in high school and at the college level, it is about providing young women the skills needed to achieve greater successes later on in life. Pugmire’s (2013) article quotes Women’s basketball legend Anne Meyers Drysdale saying the following: “According to the Women's Sports Foundation, 80% of women in Fortune 500 companies played sports. It teaches you so much -- confidence, failure, success, courage, how to get along. That's the business world. That's life. It's important for us to be continuing those lessons as long as we can”...

Summary and Personal Response

...The story I chose to summarize is “Farm Girl” by Jessica Hemauer; which she writes as a narrative essay. I believe that Hemauer told her story to let the reader know how she grew up as a child on a farm; that while it was hard work, it does pay off in the end. She realized that hard work can teach responsibility, time management, and can be used in every aspect of life. I believe her audience for the paper was youth; someone who could take away that while life is hard you can learn from it and be successful. At first, it seemed like such a difficult life for a young person to have. But by the end of the story I had changed how I felt. She did have a hard life at a young age, but she learned from it and used it in every step of life. While most people her age were still struggling to manage their lives, she learned early what she needed to do to manage her own. Jessica and her siblings had a very strict upbringing. Although “there was no sense complaining,” (Hemauer, 2011) the farm was the most important thing and the everyday routine was something that had to be done. Having to wake up at five in the morning and complete farm chores with her siblings before school while her peers are still sleeping in their warm beds. Not being able to have a social life within the school or with her peers. The cows had to be fed; however, the equipment used to milk the cows had to be sterilized before every use. The one thing that Jessica enjoyed the most was feeding the newborn calves...

...Washington. He always helped me out when I needed help in situations. He is two years older than me. He was always a good role model for me to look up to. When I was entering kindergarten, I wasn’t able to read well. I could write, but not legible enough. My first assignment was to write a story about my family. I completed the assignment, but it was hard for me because I couldn’t read the directions. My brother helped me by reading me the directions. He also helped me practice reading by giving me books with small words to sound out. We did this every day after school. Once I got reading together he drew letters on paper and let me trace them to get my handwriting together. My mom thought it was a good thing for him to do. So, we went along for a few weeks practicing that. My teacher noticed and she asked me if I had been practicing because my handwriting had improved. By that time I was happy that my teacher noticed. It was a big accomplishment for me. Little did I know that it was only the beginning of writing, as I knew it. Entering my high school year, writing had changed so much from my younger days. There were paragraphs, essays, and other narrative devices. All these things were new to me. As a freshmen my writing skills were not that great as I thought they had been. My teacher told me that I was not putting my paragraphs in order and I was using punctuations in the wrong places. So, there I was again facing another challenge with writing. I...

The Melting Pot Illusion

...Media Mid-Term Paper April 18, 2014 When it comes to race in the United States, America has always thought of itself as a racial and ethnic melting pot. This “melting pot” message has always been known throughout the world as a key aspect of America’s national identity, built on the promise that all people of various colors, races and ethnic backgrounds are afforded basic civil freedoms and opportunities to pursue their dreams within a democratic society. In fact, in school classrooms throughout the United States, where most of us received our initial understanding of American history, we often witness a romanticized narrative of Americans striving forward towards progress with limited or partial understanding of race, the complex story of Native Americans and their removal from conquered lands, and the enslavement of African-Americans. The purpose of this essay is to rethink prior understandings of American history and what race means, as well as how it has determined and limited citizenship and opportunity for some Americans, by exploring the voices in author Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove’s book Voices of a People’s History of the United States and other literary sources, and what American citizenship means to those not designated white, rich or male. The definition and concept of race, a human classification system used to group human beings into large and distinct categories, is a relatively recent modern concept, with roots in the breeding of animal stock that only...

Pavlovian Thery

...Classical conditioning shapes many of society's common, everyday tasks. Whether we know it or not, many actions we do numerous times a day are a direct result of classical conditioning. To better understand why we act the way we do in society, classical conditioning must be defined and described. Classical conditioning is defined as: a process by which a previously neutral stimulus acquires the capacity to elicit a response through association with a stimulus that already elicits a similar or related response. Discovered by Ivan Pavlov, classical conditioning is a form of learning. Pavlov revealed this trait when experimenting with dog's amounts of saliva in response to meat. He started noticing that after many repetitions, the dogs were salivating before the meat was even introduced. Pavlov concluded that some other stimulus that was repetitively associated with the meat was triggering the salivation. This simple concept describes how many actions are carried out in society today. Many times classical conditioning is not something that is purposefully done, but rather an incidental outcome. Conditioning may take a variable amount of time to occur. For example, humans are not born associating red with stop. As we grow, and ride in cars, we begin to consciously or subconsciously figure out that when a stoplight is red-you stop. Stop signs are red, stoplights are red, and brake lights are red. All of these things symbolize stopping. Yes, when you turn sixteen and you get your...

Musical Films Analysis

...Major Essay: Question One Musical films have been present in Hollywood since The Jazz Singer (1927) premiered. Mast states that a film is a musical when the primary entertainment and investment lie in the musical numbers (p. 309, Wood, 2008). Musical films are often a beloved or hated genre due to the unrealistic nature of characters erupting into song and dance. This essay analyse four main conventions of the musical genre the spectacle, the narrative, the adaption of established stories and the power the combination of lyrics and music can achieve on screen. Examples from different periods in Hollywood will be used to explore these conventions and how they apply and have evolved to suite conventions of modern cinema. Kellner (2005) explains spectacles have been present in different cultures since pre-modern times. Examples of these spectacles include plays, the Olympics of Ancient Greece, in Ancient Rome public offerings of bread, circuses and gladiator games (Kellner, 2005). The human desire for the spectacle has not fallen into extinction but rather evolved with society and technology. Entertainment has always been a prime field of the spectacle and film has been one of the most productive industries to utilise the spectacle (Kellner, 2005). Hello Dolly (1969), My Fair Lady (1964) and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (1997) are three examples of film musical spectacles. All three of these movies contain elaborate costumes, bright colours and large dance...

Set of Reflections on Filipino Culture, Nationalism, Economic Development, and Philippine Politics and Democracy

...Gener A Review and an Overview – the Introduction As I begin to think on what I will write on my reflections on the significant lessons and insights that I have distilled in my readings for the past two months, I remember that American journalist and essayist Henry Louis “H.L.” Mencken once opined that: “A Historian by his nature, is an unsuccessful novelist.” If there is a commonality that I have noticed in the methodology of writing of the scholarly articles that I have read, it is the fact that majority of them was written in a narrative and historical standpoint. Thus, when I was brainstorming prior to the completion and formal writing of this essay, I deemed it necessary that the methodology or mode of presentation of my reflective essay should complement the style of writing the journal articles were presented. This was one of the things that I had in mind and served as my setback in finally commencing the writing of my reflective essay. The past two months of attending classes and racing through the pages of the assigned readings were, in my own personal opinion, a review of history as well as an overview of the opinions of scholars on certain social aspects, whether they be on the past, present, or the uncertain future of the Philippines. It is a review, since most of the readings discussed matters and happenings that were mostly covered by my secondary and undergraduate history lessons. In light of this statement, I would like to note the works of Patricio Abinales...
