A Day in Seguela

...A day in Seguela The blue helmet peacekeeper was not in his usual fatigue and bullet proof jacket today. He was taking his time off, enjoying the sunshine and long drive to Seguela a small town in the north of Cote d’Ivoire under control of the rebels. He started his journey late in the morning from Daloa. It’s a government held town almost in the centre of the war ravaged country. Busy as it could be. He hated rushing people, crowds and smog. As he slipped in to the leather slipper and came out of his room very early in the morning in his blue faded denim and sky blue half shirt, inhaled deeply the fresh and unpolluted air from last night’s heavy rain. The prospect of serene and tranquil Seguela curved a thin smile on his lips. By the hour the heat, the smog and the crowd will make it worse to stay in the bustling town. He felt the urge to flee as far as he could. Not until late in the morning he did so. Their convoy of three vehicles stopped at the market place in Vabua, an hour drive from Daloa to the north. Shahed was following his friend from the Engineers who was on the way to inspect the newly established camp location in Seguela. He has all the time till the evening to devour the countryside, breathe the fresh air and wonder at lush green. He even did not mind to opportunity shopping in this market place. Vabua market place is like a beehive made of thousand shanties, arrayed in ranks and files like the soldiers stand in the parade. Nearly dark......

King Hammurabi

...King Assur-nasir-pal's draped Shawl Pattern Guideline This is another representation of the Assyrian King Assur-nasir-pal. The best way to understand how the drapery is assembled is to observe the stages below right. Over the long tunic above right, the king would have worn a shawl drapery.  The shawl would have measured 72" X 90". To drape this shawl, line E to F would have been folded over so that A to B hangs on the outside of the body. The cord was attached just at E to G. Then hold G at the right side of the waist in front, whilst throwing the rest of the shawl backwards over the right shoulder. Edge E to F was then drawn around the back of the neck and formed a sling over the left arm. To finish draping, the edge E to F was passed around the waist towards the right, under the right elbow, then on around the back until it reached about 6 inches in front of the left side waist.  The remainder of the fabric swathe was folded underneath as seen in the drawing. Finally a cord was tied around the waist to keep the draped shawl firmly in position.  The pictures right also show if cord E to G is pulled down so that E touches the waist, then both the shoulders will be covered by the fabric.  Figure K is the most usual way to arrange the shawl compared to L, but minor adjustments will create the different looks.    Model M is the back view. Version P Model P looks a little more like the costume plate of King Assur-nasir-pal above left.  The costume pattern is based on a......

Nasty Nas

...Nafees Bost Professor Jordan-smith English 112 15 April 2013 Nasty Nas Quite possibly the only man to indirectly steal my attention with sheer words alone, such a man would have to be non-other than Nas, or Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones. Born the son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Nas dropped out of school in the eighth grade, trading classrooms for the streets of the rough Queensbridge projects, long fabled as the former stomping ground of Marley Marl and his Juice Crew as immortalized in "The Bridge." Despite having dropped out of school in the eighth grade, Nas developed a high degree of literacy that would later characterize his rhymes. At the same time, though, he delved into street culture and flirted with danger, such experiences similarly characterizing his rhymes. His synthesis of well-crafted rhetoric and street-glamorous imagery blossomed in 1991 when he connected with Main Source and laid down a fiery verse on "Live at the Barbeque" in which earned him instant respect among the East Coast rap scene. Not long afterward, MC Serch of 3rd Bass approached Nas about contributing a track to the Zebrahead soundtrack. Serch had been the soundtrack's executive producer and, like much of New York, had been impressed by "Live at the Barbeque." Nas then submitted "Halftime," and the song had impressed Serch enough for him to make it the soundtrack's leadoff track. Columbia Records meanwhile signed Nas to a major-label contract, and many of New York's finest producers......

Changing How to Store Information. Synopsis

...their true issue, stress and job satisfaction. B. Framework for case analysis: Workplace stress is common in today’s uncertain jobs market; however, an abundance of stress can interfere with employee’s productivity and impact their physical and emotional health (Segal, Smith, & Robinson, 2013). Studies show that employees who have high stress levels tend to underperform and cannot work to their full potential, which in turn cause companies to lose profits. Employees who underperform during their job tend to have low job satisfaction. Studies have shown that workplace stress can be directly linked to job satisfaction; although, most researchers find that workplace stress is viewed as a predecessor of job satisfaction (Mansoor, Fida, Nasir, & Ahmad, 2011). Job dissatisfaction can be linked to the organizational structure of a company, lack...

Critical Review: Standardisation vs Adaptation

...A critical review of Viswanathan, N. & Dickson, P. 2007, ‘The fundamentals of standardizing global marketing strategy’, International Marketing Review, vol. 24, no. 1, pp. 46-63. Introductory Academic Program – Academic English The issue of standardisation versus adaptation, which affects all international business organizations, continues to evolve as markets and technologies develop further. In the article ‘The fundamentals of standardizing global marketing strategy’ (2007), Viswanathan and Dickson contribute to the discussion by examining the considerations related to the standardisation of a multinational company’s marketing practices. The authors subsequently propose a new theoretical framework that identifies three complex drivers to be considered in evaluating the degree of marketing standardisation possible: the similarity of consumer response to the marketing mix, the transmissibility of competitive advantage, and similarities in the amount of economic freedom in different markets. The article imparts perceptive insights on the latter two drivers, which, according to the literature review, have been relatively ignored by researchers in comparison to the role of consumers. This critical review assesses the structure and practicality of the proposed conceptual framework, as well as the comprehensiveness of the authors’ exploration of the issue. The proposed theoretical model, intended for the use of marketing practitioners as an instrument in......
