Every year in February Americans celebrate Black History Month. Black history month is a time of reflection and remembrance during which the struggles and achievements of many famous African Americans are recognized, celebrated, and honored. This event grew out of “Negro History Week” that was established by Carter G. Woodson in 1926. The influential African American that I chose to recognize is Natasha Watley. Watley is a two-time Olympic medalist who has overcome many obstacles on her journey.
Natasha Watley was born November 28, 1981 in a town called Canoga Park in California. Her parents were Edwin and Carolyn Watley. Her father, Edwin enjoyed the sport of basketball so much that he really wanted Natasha to follow in his footsteps.
