The four pillars of the National Honors Society is scholarship, service, leadership, and character. To me scholarship means when you devote your time and effort towards pursuing academic excellence and being an example of accomplishing academic success. In my life, service means being a role model in the community through acts of community service and community empowering acts. Leadership to me means to be a positive role model and somebody who brings the community together by their character, actions and words. Last but not least, character to me means that I myself and the traits I exemplify should set a positive example for how people should act and present themselves in the community.

Before entering NHS sophomore year, I was living by these four pillars, yet NHS made the pillars in my life flourish. My character has been forming since I was a child by my parents, my surroundings, and myself. Joining NHS only made my character thrive even further by surrounding myself with others striving to be the best version of them. Although NHS announced we were the school’s leaders, leading is much simpler than that; it does not take an election to make you a leader. Being a leader means just doing the right thing whenever deems necessary. Before NHS, I volunteered and enjoyed it, but after joining and given various volunteering...

These are four things that have played a primary role in my life, but the one pillar that I have built up the most during my high school years is the pillar of character. This was not a decision, rather I was forced to build my pillar of character during a difficult situation. When I was in eighth grade, one of my closest friends lost her guardian and was involuntarily put into foster care. I was devastated so I decided to talk to my parents about becoming her foster parents. After the decision was made that we were going to become her foster family, my parents had to go through extensive training, background checks, and house inspections....

Being able to balance these four principles have allowed me to succeed and surpass expectations set by myself and my school. Since freshman year, I have only taken honors or advanced placement academic courses. Moreover, to ensure I surpass expectations, I make studying a part of my routine to maintain the 4.0 grade point average I have. In addition to the four main subjects in school, I have studied guitar in a separate school and at my high school for over three years. My dedication to music and countless hours of practice have landed me a spot in the Bayonne High School honors guitar trio. Throughout my entire academic and music carrer, my...

National Honor Society

...The National Honor Society values individuals who exhibit four distinct qualities: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Character is defined by the unique personalities, habits, behaviors, and morals of an individual. Our character not only affects the relationships and interactions we make with the world around us, but it makes up the essence of who we are. The empathy we use to build meaningful relationships with others in our community and the ethical decisions we make based on our morals and values make up our everyday character. Character should be based on integrity. We cannot see character and often we do not notice someone’s character until they exhibit a visible mistake or a visible act of virtue. National Honor Society 4 Pillars Analysis

...Out of the four pillars that all of the National Honor Society members must exemplify, I believe I best exemplify the service pillar. The reason I believe that the service pillar is the area where I truly excel is because I am always trying to give back to the community. For example, I have volunteered and helped out at The Heavenly Father Catholic Church, Big Reds Ranch, math and science camp for the new generation of scholars, and at the Spanish Meadows of Brownsville. Every place where I have given my service to all works for the same purpose: giving back to everyone in the community.
