...What I am Not... I am not the top of my class, I am not the star of the varsity soccer team and I am not the most popular student at Turpin High School. This does not mean that I am not an excellent candidate for National Honor Society. Without being all the things that I previously mentioned, I firmly believe that I possess great attributes that allow me to be a leader, a scholar, and a honorable student. I have perseverance. During Varsity soccer tryouts this past year my self confidence was tested. Unfortunately, I found it was a struggle to make the Varsity team. I thought about quitting because I did not like the uncertainty and the feelings of insecurity that arose because of the situation. Sometimes people feel it is easier to quit than to push forward but I “pushed on”. In the end, I did make the Varsity team. I did not take the easy way out when soccer became...

I volunteer for South Bronx United, where I serve as a youth tutor to high school students. I was also offered an opportunity to work as a tutor for the math department at BCC, seeing how well I did on the placement exam and both my Calculus courses, I declined the offer because of all the tasks I was doing. Lastly, I was offered an opportunity by general chemistry II professor to do research with him. The research is on “the Determination of chemical composition in rainwater and snow in different locations at Bronx Community College of City University of New York (BCC).” In the end, I decided not to do the research as I was trying to make going to classes, working and volunteering along studying and doing homework all happen. I am also in a program called Academy for Transition to Health Professions (ATHP), which is an exclusive program that gives students with a strong academic potential to excel at the...
