Medias Effect on the Image of Nursing Both Positive and Negative

...is perhaps a negative view portrayed for nursing, but it is also a portrayal of real life that we must be willing to accept as well. I have worked with other nurses who were appalled by the program about Jackie. Negative or positive it is a realistic example of what some nurses go through in their lives. Another program that is now cancelled portrayed the CNO at a hospital as a super hero in her job but having a personal life full of strife and challenges. She would dig in and get her hands dirty when needed to take care of the patients in her care. She would lose herself in her work to distract from the issues in her life. Is this a positive portrayal or not? This would depend on what one is seeking in watching the program and the how personal the experience is to the viewer. It may touch on a sensitive issue based on one’s own experience and this would determine if it were positive or a negative depiction. Other examples are when male nurses are stereotyped and portrayed in a feminine manner in movies. To the contrary many of the men I work with are quite the opposite of this portrayal. It gives the public a perception of male nurses that could be considered negative by some. I feel the negative’s associated with nursing in media are outweighed by the personal experience and moments when nurses are able to touch people’s lives. These moments are the ones that make a difference and allow our patients and society to see us as uplifting and positive role......

The Positive and Negative Effects of Media on Consumers

...Alexander S Morillo SOC 122 Professional Orval Jewett May 11, 2013 The Positive and Negative Effects of Media on Consumers In some way, shape or form media and technology play a very important role in our lives. Before the digital age mainly newspapers and radios distributed media. In today’s day in age mass media is publicized either through multiple forms of technology such as the radio, television, computer, cell phones, and tablets. Although we may view these forms of media and technology as positive, negative repercussions also tend to arise. One negative repercussion for example is an over exposure to media which causes health problems due to unhealthy advertisement that “hypnotizes” consumers into buying goods and services which have negative impacts on their lives. Yet a positive effect is that the common man gets the latest news within a fraction of seconds. Media and technology provides society with information. This through nonfiction sources such as the news and also through fictional sources such as movies and books. Even though the latter are not factually true, they are informed by facts and provide interpretations and perspectives. Spreading information makes a better-informed society whose people make decisions based on more information. Social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, have removed all the communication and interaction barriers. People can now communicate his/her perception and thoughts over a variety of topics. Students and......

Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects?

...Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects? Does Facebook Have Generally Positive Psychological Effects? Valerie Helfman PS101 Introduction to Psychology Does Facebook have a generally positive psychological effect? Yes, Studies have shown that humans are social creatures and we like to make new connections and to communicate our opinions and to listen to others, and through regular Facebook status updates that pop up in our friends news feeds or vice a versa we are able to do this. Facebook use has become a part of millions of people’s daily routine, whether it is to update a status, reply to a message or even to read the News. Facebook has provided both positive and negative psychological effects. Negatively, Facebook has provided a site which can be used for cyberbullying along with an extreme influence on education. And because people may only post positive status, people tend to get the impression that all is well in their lives and they have no problems. And this could lead to feeling that their lives are boring and sad as and recent studies indicated as to how children and teenagers feel because of this. Facebook is also a distracting site that can make you lose track of time and distract the mind from more important matters. . . Facebook has generally provided positive psychological effects on the multiple sections of society. Positively, Facebook has revolutionized......

...of the U.S.(Anderson, 2001). Heat factors in due to its ability to cause a discomfort factor in people especially through whose biological state does not adjust well within hotter environments. Things like irritability go up due to this discomfort which may affect individual's mood even further causing things that would be normally a minor annoyance or trigger to be perceived as something something more. Through these studies on heats effects researchers have also raised the questions as to the level that hotter temperature actually affect us and the way in which the negative effects can be reduced. Although there is a direct correlation between heat and aggression is is also important to understand other environmental factors like living conditions and population density play a role in reducing or increase the effects heat has on human beings or being actual factors of the researched behaviors (Steg, 2013; Anderson, 2001). Understanding that the environment has influence over our behaviors is a valuable piece of knowledge that we can use to understand and change our own habits within the environment. Another aspect of environments that we are in is the influence of our society on our behaviors towards the environment. Social influence is one of the strongest factors in human behavior (Forgas & Brown, 1977). Our societies influence in ways that we may not even consciously recognize. The environment also affects human behavior. Negative effects of human behavior can be seen in animal extinction, climate change, pollution, noise, and deforestation, just to name some. Protecting the ozone layer, conserving earth’s resources such as; water and power, and protecting endangered animals are some of the ways that human behavior has a positive effect on the environment. When something in the environment triggers important information or causes a reaction it is known as an environmental cue. Environmental cues often affect human behavior. Environmental Impact Humans cannot possibly avoid impact of the environment; just existing creates an impact on the environment. However that impact can be positive. The negative impact that humans have on the environment is the main concern today and causes concern for the future. Humans have changed the environment by making adaptations to make living more comfortable. However humans don’t always consider the consequences for the behaviors they exhibit (Derreby, 2011). Environmental Cues Steg (2013) describes environmental cues as environmental elements that trigger a reaction or send information that is important.
